5 Ways Swimmer Katie Ledecky Keeps Herself In Olympic Shape

Katie Ledecky is the GOAT of swimming. She is the woman who has won the most medals, and is the most-decorated female Olympic athlete. Recently, she broke her own world record in the 800 meter freestyle, and won her seventh world championship. How exactly does Katie Ledecky keep herself in shape to do all that swimming? Here are 5 of her secrets.
She Combines Swimming & Weights
Katie’s training regime isn’t just doing laps in the pool. She also likes to lift weights. Katie broke down her schedule in an interview with FOX News. “It varies day by day, but in a given week, I train about 25 to 30 hours a week,” she said. “I swim about 10 times a week for 2 hours, and then I have dryland or weights training five days a week for about an hour each. It’s a lot.”
She Prioritizes Recovery
A big part of Katie’s wellness routine is recovery and nutrition. “Recovery and nutrition are very important to me,” she explains to FOX News. “It’s become more and more important as I’ve gotten older and as I’ve learned more. It’s something I take very seriously and kind of every decision I make is about my nutrition, fueling my next practice or my next competition. That doesn’t sound fun, but I get a cheat meal every now and again.”
She Eats Oatmeal and Bananas For Breakfast
Before she leaves for an early-morning training session, Katie makes sure to fuel up. “[For breakfast] I eat almost exactly the same thing every day,” she tells EatingWell. “Just because it’s what works for me in between practices and before practices. I’ll have oatmeal with some peanut butter and a banana.”
She’s Consistent
Katie makes sure to stay consistent with her training. She tells EatingWell that this helps with her confidence and mental state. “Mentally, I get all my confidence from my training and knowing that I’m putting in all the work in the training, in my recovery, in everything I’m doing outside the pool. As long as I’m staying on top of those things, I know that I’ll get behind the blocks and feel my most confident.”
She Loves Protein For Dinner
Katie makes sure to eat enough protein, and she typically does so at dinner. She shared some of her favorite meals in her EatingWell interview. “Dinner is what I usually mix up. I’ll make chicken or steak or salmon with something to go with it, whether it’s a salad or some rice or some other vegetables.”
