Ellen DeGeneres Shows Off Fit Bod Doing Hardcore Strength Workout
Ellen DeGeneres turned 66 – at the gym. In a new social media post, the talk show host's wife, Portia de Rossi, wishes her woman a happy birthday, showing off her strength and fit body during a workout. "My darling wife! You continue to amaze me and inspire me. Happy Birthday to the strongest, sweetest, most brilliant person I know. I'm so lucky to be standing next to you as we share this incredible life together. I love you," she captioned the Instagram video. "One hard worker !!" her trainer, Peter Park, commented. "Beast mode!!!!!" added another follower. How does the 66-year-old approach health and wellness? Here are all of her lifestyle habits.
Strength Training
In the video, Ellen does a hardcore but simple weight training circuit. Her strength training workout includes sled pulls and pushes, squats, pull-ups, and dumbbell chest presses.
Vegan Diet
Ellen explained to Shape (via PopSugar) why she went vegan. "Food used to be really important to me. I loved steak, I loved hamburgers, I loved all that stuff. I can't believe how irresponsible I was, eating what I ate … I want to be on my toes; I want to have energy. And as much as the [vegan] diet seems like a sacrifice, it's helping me," she said. She added to Oprah Winfrey in an interview for O that eating plant-based makes her feel better. "Well I felt better about myself, and I felt healthier living in a cruelty-free way. I haven't been sick since, I am not as tired, and I've lost weight. And I am lucky: I have a chef, so it's easy for me. For a lot of people, it's harder."
No Sugar or Processed Food
Ellen also avoids sugar and processed food. "No cake, no cookies, no candy," she told Shape,
Pickleball
Ellen is also a fan of the trendy sport pickleball. "All I want for my birthday is to beat Orlando Bloom at pickleball. #OrlandoBloom," she captioned a recent post. The racquet sport is very similar to tennis, which blends together cardio and aerobic exercise, as there is a lot of running around, and hand-eye coordination, says ACE Fitness.
Yoga
You can also find Ellen doing hatha yoga. "I first started doing power yoga in L.A., which really makes no sense. Power yoga? It's the opposite of what it should be. Yoga should calm you down!" she told Shape. There is a laundry list of reasons to do yoga, explains Harvard Health. "Researchers found that people who practiced yoga for at least 30 minutes once a week for at least four years, gained less weight during middle adulthood," they said. "People who were overweight actually lost weight. Overall, those who practiced yoga had lower body mass indexes (BMIs) compared with those who did not practice yoga. Researchers attributed this to mindfulness. Mindful eating can lead to a more positive relationship with food and eating."
