Anna has a de-stressing method. "Harry Potter audiobooks always calm me down when things get stressful," she told Redbull. "It was the same when I was a kid." She maintains that she can usually fall asleep after listening for a few minutes.

Surfing

Anna recently started surfing. "I always try to find new adventures and activities," Anna says. "This summer, I tried surfing for the first time and really enjoyed it," she told Burton. According to the Australian government's Better Health, surfing provides many health benefits including cardiovascular fitness from paddling, shoulder and back strength, which also strengthens from the paddling, and leg and core strength. "Once you're standing up on the board, strong legs and a strong core will keep you up," they say.

Swimming

You can also find Anna swimming in pools and the ocean. Swimming is a good way to get regular aerobic physical activity, according to the CDC. Just two and a half hours per week of aerobic physical activity, such as swimming, bicycling, or running, can decrease the risk of chronic illnesses. In addition to the many physical benefits, there are multiple studies supporting the mental health benefits of swimming as well.

Anna is also a reader. "I like to slow things down by spending time in nature, reading a book, or just hanging with my friends." One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years compared with people who weren't readers or who read periodicals.

Acro Yoga

Anna loves acro yoga. "I started doing it for fun with my sister. After we got more into it, we saw what a great workout it was," she told Burton. "The best part is working together and having fun as a team." According to the American Osteopathic Association, there are more than 100 different types, or schools, of yoga. Most practices include breathing exercises, meditation, and assuming postures (sometimes called asana or poses) that stretch and flex various muscle groups."The relaxation techniques incorporated in yoga can lessen chronic pain, such as lower back pain, arthritis, headaches and carpal tunnel syndrome," Natalie Nevins, DO, a board-certified osteopathic family physician and certified Kundalini Yoga instructor in Hollywood, California, explained to them. "Yoga can also lower blood pressure and reduce insomnia."

Other physical benefits of yoga include:

  • increased flexibility
  • increased muscle strength and tone
  • improved respiration, energy and vitality
  • maintaining a balanced metabolism
  • weight reduction
  • cardio and circulatory health
  • improved athletic performance
  • protection from injury
