She Swims

Swimming is naturally the main way McKeown stays in shape. The Mayo Clinic states that swimming has a lot of benefits. "Exercise in an aquatic environment offers numerous options and techniques for almost all levels of physical ability. Exercise can be as basic as walking in the water to more high-level aerobic activities, such as deep-water running or swimming. Standing exercises often are performed in water that is waist to chest deep. These exercises can focus on improving range of motion/flexibility, balance and strength. Resistance training can be amped up by simply increasing the speed of movement or adding equipment, such as mitts, paddles, noodles or bands, to increase drag."

She Takes Care Of Her Hair

McKeown shared some of her favorite hair care products in an interview with New Idea. "For me, NAK products, especially the leave-in conditioner, [are my holy grail products]. It sounds gross but we can't wash our hair every day because the [swimming] caps would just fall off my head, so every afternoon I'm always rinsing my hair to clean it and putting in the deep conditioner which makes my hair smell so nice."

She Takes Care Of Her Skin

McKeown also shared her favorite skincare products in her New Idea interview. "Moisturiser is the second biggest thing for me. The chlorine just dries my skin out that much and even exfoliates my skin for me. Dermal lip balm and Rawleigh's Medicated Ointment too! Rawleigh's comes in a huge tinned jarred which is inconvenient to carry around but it is the best. It clears your nose, sinuses, and everything. It's 'chef's kiss'."

She Fell Back In Love With Swimming

McKeown talked about how she fell back in love with swimming in an interview. "After the Olympics I found it hard to get up behind the blocks again," she said. "(But) I've found a new love for the sport and it just goes to show that a happy swimmer is a fast swimmer. I haven't necessarily changed anything in my program or training-wise. It's just that I'm happier."

She Strength Trains

McKeown does a lot of things to keep herself in shape. One thing she likes to do is strength train. She shared this photo on Instagram of herself lifting a weight. McKeown captioned the post, "Strength isn't all physical. It begins in your mind." According to The Mayo Clinic, strength training has a lot of benefits. "Strength training can help you manage or lose weight, and it can increase your metabolism to help you burn more calories."
