Siobhan Haughey in Workout Gear Says "Aspire"
Siobhan Haughey is a professional swimmer. She won two silver medals at the 2020 Olympics. She shared a video of herself for AIA in January. In the caption, Haughey talked about her aspirations. "What's your aspiration? To me, aspirations have no boundaries with unlimited possibilities. They are unique to everyone. They are what keep us up at night, and sometimes even make us cry. But more importantly, they are what truly excite us. They give us purpose and ambition to keep trying and striving, day after day, year after year. I am honoured to join AIA to start this meaningful conversation about "ASPIRE". Together, let's get aspired and support everyone to become the best versions of themselves, so we can make a positive impact on ourselves, our loved ones, and our community." How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Siobhan Haughey stays in shape and the photos that prove they work.
She Swims
Swimming is the main way Haughey stays fit. The CDC states that swimming is a great workout. "Swimming is the fourth most popular sports activity in the United States and a good way to get regular aerobic physical activity. Just two and a half hours per week of aerobic physical activity, such as swimming, bicycling, or running, can decrease the risk of chronic illnesses. This can also lead to improved health for people with diabetes and heart disease."
She's Driven
When it comes to swimming, Haughey makes sure to stay consistent with her training. She talked about this with Scmp.com "Now that I look back on it, it's kind of crazy and very tiring. But it's all worth it in the end. I definitely have those days when I'm too tired to go to school or I just don't feel like training. But then I go back to my long-term goal and think about why I am doing this."
She's Consistent
Haughey is very consistent when it comes to training. She talked about this to Tatler. "I was still training in the US when Covid-19 happened. Pools and gyms were closed. I wasn't able to train in the pool for almost three months. In order to stay fit while we were in lockdown, I did a lot of at home workouts in my apartment in Michigan. When the weather was slightly warmer, 13 degrees celsius, my teammate and I would go to a lake near where we live and try to swim. Even though we had wetsuits on, we could only swim for around 15 minutes because the water was freezing."
She Eats Healthy
Haughey talked about her diet in an interview with Cathay Pacific. She says that she makes sure to find a balance and eat healthy on a consistent basis. "I know it's not possible to be 100 per cent perfect, 100 per cent of the time. But I try my best to make the right decisions, or better decisions. I like to ask myself, 'is there a chance that doing this will help me get to where I want to be?' If the answer is yes, then I'll do it."
She Wants To Inspire Others
Haughey talked about her approach to swimming in an interview with Scmp.com. She says that she wants other people to be inspired by her. "Hopefully, I'm an inspiration to a lot of people. If I was five, 10, 15 years old, just seeing this Olympic medal would be a really cool thing. The road to achieving your goals or dreams won't be easy. But you have to keep moving forward because sometimes you think you're in the dark, but if you keep moving forward, you'll eventually see the light."
