Finola Hughes in Workout Gear Goes on "Hike"

“Hike…. #Lily (#Johnny was off finding a stick).”

Finola Hughes is an actress. She's known for her roles on Charmed, General Hospital, and All My Children. She and her dogs went on a hike in April, and she shared a photo on Instagram. Hughes captioned the post, "Hike…. #Lily (#Johnny was off finding a stick)." How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Finola Hughes stays in shape and the photos that prove they work.

1

She Has A Dog

Hughes has dogs whom she features on her Instagram, and even in the post. Harvard Health states that owning a dog has a lot of benefits. "Dog owners have lower blood pressure and healthier cholesterol levels, and a lower risk of heart disease, than non-owners. There are also many psychological benefits to having a pooch around. Dog owners are less prone to bouts of loneliness, anxiety, and depression. Simply petting your dog can make you feel less stressed."

Hughes shared some of her wellness secrets in an interview with Boston Magazine. She says that she loves to practice yoga. "I like a vigorous flow, ashtanga, and sometimes Bikram. I try to practice at least three time per week. I sometimes take my yoga mat into my dressing room if I haven't managed to go."

She Does A Variety Of Workouts

Hughes does a variety of workouts, and shared what she enjoys doing with Boston Magazine. "I love walking and swimming, and I also take online ballet classes. I used to be a ballet dancer, I started when I was three. I was dancing on television at 15 and in a ballet company at 18. I was in the original cast of Cats over in London. I've done everything, really. I took my kids rock climbing the other day. I love spin classes, and I even have my own spin shoes. I love bootcamp, too.  I love paddleboarding. Actually, I have not yet found something that I don't like."

She Eats Healthy

Hughes makes sure to eat healthy. She described her diet with Boston Magazine. "I'm not really into fad diets. My family and I am more inclined towards the Mediterranean way of eating. We eat very European in that respect. Rice and fish, olive oil… we grow all our own vegetables where I live in Santa Barbara. We have two vegetable plots with fruit trees, different lettuces, corn, beets, potatoes, strawberries, loads of berries, apples, and more. We eat off the land."

She Hikes

As you can see from her Instagram post, Hughes likes to hike. Piedmont states that hiking has a lot of benefits. "Going up and down hills gets the heart pumping, creating a great cardio workout. Like most cardio exercises, hiking helps reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and even some cancers. Hiking is a weight-bearing exercise, which builds muscle mass and helps prevent osteoporosis."
