Maddy prioritizes sleep. In her playoffs diary she reveals that because of a late game, "we didn't get home until 4:45 this morning. Normally I wake up at 8:30, and I did today, but I was like 'Nope, back to bed', and I slept until 11," she said. What are the health benefits of sleep? According to the Sleep Foundation, getting enough z's is a mood booster, promotes heart health, regulates blood sugar, improves mental function, restores your immune system, helps relieve stress, and aids in weight loss.

Pilates and Strength Training

What did Maddy do to prepare during the off season? "I really just took care of my body," she told the Times Union. "I did a lot of Pilates and strength training to physically get stronger because the players are bigger, stronger and faster in the W." Why is pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic there are lots of benefits to the workout, as it "strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility resulting in improved overall health." It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, relief from stress and back pain, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Maddy starts her day "with the necessary Starbucks, coffee and a bacon avocado sandwich, and then a salad for lunch," she wrote in the same diary. She also revealed that she "got fried rice and edamame," for dinner, and the next night, "penne alla vodka" and a salad.

Faith

Siegrist relies on her Catholic faith. While at Villanova she tried to attend daily mass. "My faith has grown during my time in college," she told The Tablet. "It's always something I've leaned on in my career. When success comes or when failure comes, give it all to God. That was instilled in me at a young age. Basketball is a game. You try to do the best you can, but ultimately God and your family — those are the things that are most important."

Basketball

Maddy gets her workout in on the court. "Basketball promotes speed, agility, strength, power and endurance. It [has] also been shown to increase flexibility and motor coordination. As a result, basketball is uniquely oriented to improve fundamental motor skills that are shown to be beneficial in promoting general health," Koco Eaton, M.D., orthopedic surgeon, founder of Eaton Orthopaedics and a former basketball player, tells Nike
