Pedro Pascal channels Lucy's potential new love interest, Randy. He's known for his roles in The Last Of Us, The Mandalorian, and Gladiator ll. Chris Evans is set to play Lucy's ex-boyfriend, John. While he's become very well-known for his role as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Evans is no stranger to rom-coms. He previously appeared in What's Your Number? and Before We Go.

Materialists reportedly draws inspiration from classic romance films we love. According to Marie Claire, director James L. Brooks is said to have inspired the film, namely his works Terms of Endearment and Broadcast News from the '80s.

In addition to its all-star cast of actors, Materialists has an amazing writer, director, and producer: Celine Song. Song is best known for writing and directing the 2023 critically acclaimed film, Past Lives. Song received two Oscar nominations for her work on it. In addition, she received multiple Golden Globe nominations.
