Outlander's Jamie Fraser (aka, Sam Heughan) never fails to make viewers swoon. Sam has dominated the role of the Scottish soldier and landowner for seven seasons and will continue to do so through the eighth and final season of the Starz series.

It's no secret that Sam Heughan has an impressively ripped physique. The actor shared some of his top diet secrets, and we are all ears.

He Eats Clean

Sam told GQ that while his diet has changed a lot over the years, he mostly focuses on clean eating.

"I've experimented a lot with diets," he shared with the outlet. "I've been a vegan, I've gone through Atkins diets, full-on carnivore diets, I try new fads quite a lot too. I'm always curious to see how my body responds to things. In the end, I always end up going back to eating cleanly."

He Loves Porridge—With Protein Powder

Porridge is one of Sam's go-to meals. In fact, it's his "number one power of food."

"My body does well on carbohydrates, especially porridge," the 44-year-old actor revealed during his GQ interview. "It's probably the number one power of food for me. There are infinite ways to enjoy porridge. I always have a flavored protein powder in there, chocolate or vanilla, and you can put anything you want on top of it. The world is your oyster. Adorn it with a banana, almond butter, sprinkles, frozen blueberries. Savory works too (unflavored powder here) I've cracked an egg on top, spring onions, tahini."

He Takes Supplements

In addition to protein powder, Sam works various supplements into his diet. He always brings them on-set for an energy and immunity boost.

"I smash Lypo-Spheric Vitamin C a lot, also glutathione, krill oil, omegas, and Vitamin D," he shared. "It's mainly to do with immunity boosting and generally giving me energy because the days are long and tiring both physically and mentally."

He Juices

The celeb incorporates fresh juices into his diet, too, and makes sure to stay hydrated.

"I was juicing a lot last year which I enjoyed," he said. "Mint, ginger, carrot, and lemon juice was a good one. Might get back into that. I have hydration capsules if I'm traveling and haven't been able to keep hydrated, or have had a night out, too."

He Brings Protein Bars With Him

Sam is consistent with his healthy eating habits. He told GQ that he always has protein bars on deck whether he's traveling or on-set.

"The main challenges I have with diet are finding good options when on set or traveling," he shared. "To combat it, I always have a box of protein bars with me. With Outlander we have good caterers on set, but I've also used meal prep companies in the past. I felt guilty because of all the plastic though, so I stopped."
