Anna Kendrick’s Cardio & Sculpt Combo That Keeps Her in Top Form

The martinis are strong, but the secrets are much stronger: Anna Kendrick is back with Another Simple Favor, hitting Prime Video on May 1. We can hardly wait for the twists, turns, thrills, chills, and epic fashion moments Anna’s character, Stephanie Smothers, will deliver amid the stunning backdrop of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s wedding. It’s clear Anna Kendrick always looks incredible in the roles she channels, and we found out some of her fitness secrets—namely, the walk and sculpt combo that keeps the actress in top shape.
Pilates and Barre Keep Anna Kendrick in Top Shape
When it comes to working out, the 39-year-old celeb keeps her routine interesting with variety. She’s taken barre and Pilates classes—a stellar combo for sculpting and toning the body while revving up the calorie burn.
Anna previously told Shape, “Every time I try something new, I’m like, I found it! I found the only workout I’ll ever need! Then I get so obsessed with it that I burn out and have to start over with something new. I went through phases of yoga, Pilates, barre classes, and running.”
The great thing about Pilates is the variety of equipment; from the reformer to the spring wall to the magic circle, every session can be fresh and invigorating. Plus, the physical and mental health benefits are undeniable. Pilates is an awesome low-impact workout that boosts flexibility, balance, and core strength.
Barre is another productive, low-impact workout Anna has tried that focuses on tiny, repetitive movements. If you’ve ever taken a Pure Barre class before, you know the drill quite well. Group classes are low-impact, high-intensity sessions that fire up all major muscle groups in just 50 minutes or less. As for equipment, the usual suspects include a workout mat, ball, straps, and of course, the barre.

She Hikes, Too
The Pitch Perfect star gets her body moving and clears her mind by going on hikes, too. “Right now I’m in a hiking phase,” Anna shared with Shape. “I live in a funky hilly area of L.A., and I realized I had to commit to going on a hike because I get my best ideas then. Actually, it’s more like mental clarity. Sometimes I’m in my head too much, and I overanalyze things. When I’m walking, I can work through whatever it is.”

One of Anna’s top fitness goals she’s working on? Improving her strength and flexibility.
“For a long time, working out meant that the only goal was to change the shape of your body,” she shared. “But now it’s about the strength and flexibility aspects, rather than appearance. I definitely had to shift my thinking about it, from doing something to punish myself to doing something to make my quality of life better.”
