WNBA Star Alyssa Thomas In Workout Gear Has “New Beginnings”

Alyssa Thomas is one of the best WNBA players of all time. While she spent most of her career with the Connecticut Sun, she recently became a member of the Phoenix Mercury. Alyssa recently played her first game with the team, and shared some highlights from the day on Instagram. In them, she wore a green sweater and patterned pants to the court, and her purple uniform on it. Alyssa captioned the post, “New Beginnings.” Here are 5 of her wellness secrets.
She Worked Hard After Being Injured
Alyssa notably came back to the court from an Achilles injury in 2021. The Connecticut Sun’s trainer, Nicole Alexander, told The Hartford Courant that Alyssa made sure to work hard and was determined to return. “We could do the same exact [rehab] program with someone else and not have the results that she’s had because of her mindset. She had made the decision [to try to come back], and she worked her butt off every single day to get where she is.”
She Has A Work-Life Balance
Alyssa and her fiance, fellow WNBA star DeWanna Bonner, talked about their relationship with Essence. She says that both of them have a good work-life balance, which is how they maintain a healthy relationship. “It’s tough balancing your relationship and job,” Alyssa says. “We’re always playing. We’re always in game mode. But the moment we leave the gym, we try to disconnect from basketball, do other things together and not think about it so much.”
She Has Support
Alyssa tells Essence that she gets a lot of support from DeWanna. “I always say she’s my conscience. During basketball season, I’m pretty intense and I want to win. She always talks with me, to make me think further about things I’ve said or done that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise thought twice about.”
She Makes Time For Herself
Alyssa is all about self-care, however, her favorite practices aren’t the typical meditation and skincare. “For self-care, I like to detail our cars,” she revealed to Essence. “It’s a way for me to just hyper-focus on something and take my mind off whatever is going on, in basketball or in the world. Also, whenever I have an opportunity to sit outside and listen to music, I do that. I’m big on listening to music.”
She Does Squats
Alyssa makes sure to workout on a regular basis, to keep herself in tip top shape. She shared some of her go-to workouts in this Instagram post. One exercise that she does in the post is squats with resistance bands. Alyssa captioned the post, “Putting in work during these crazy times!”
