“Sporty Spice” Mel C In Bikini Top Is “Pretty”

The singer shared some of her favorite lower body workouts

When she was a member of the girl group, The Spice Girls, Melanie Chisholm, or Mel C, had the nickname “Sporty Spice.” She was known for wearing workout clothes and doing cartwheels on stage. While Mel may no longer be in the group, she is proving why she earned that moniker. In a recent Instagram post, Mel hit the gym, while on vacation, and shared some of her favorite exercises. She wore a gray top and black shorts, showing off her toned figure. Mel captioned the post, “When a gym’s this pretty, you gotta have a little sesh.” Here are 6 ways Mel C keeps herself in shape.

1

She Does Lunges

One exercise that Mel does in her Instagram video is lunges with weights. According to The Cleveland Clinic, lunges can help you perform everyday tasks. “Lunge exercises have a direct impact on the way your body moves when doing other daily activities like climbing stairs or picking something up off the floor. Lunges also allow you to independently strengthen each leg. And that progressively builds off of the overall strength you gain when doing squats and other lower-body exercises.”

She Uses A Stationary Bike

Mel makes sure to do cardio workouts. One thing she is seen doing in her Instagram video is riding a stationary bike. Brown University Health says that using a stationary bike has a lot of benefits. “The resisted pedaling available on indoor cycles helps to build muscle endurance in the lower body, which can make activities of daily living easier.”

3

She Lifts Weights

Mel does a lot of strength training exercises to keep herself in shape. In her Instagram video, she is seen doing lunges with weights, bicep curls, and lateral raises. Strength training has a lot of health benefits, one of them being weight loss. The Mayo Clinic says, “Strength training can help you manage or lose weight, and it can increase your metabolism to help you burn more calories.”

4

She Eats Enough

Mel works out a lot, which means she has to eat a lot. “The great thing about training really hard is that you can eat lots,” she says to Your Healthy Living. “That’s a massive benefit. And what I learned above all is that you have to fuel. I’m wise about nutrition and I eat lean protein, but my focus is on good carbs. I have three good meals and snacks. I don’t like being hungry – I want to keep the fire burning!”

5

She Takes Vitamins

Mel revealed to Your Healthy Living that she takes vitamins, and that she decided to find out what ones she actually needed to take. “I actually had some blood tests to see if I’m deficient in anything, because if I wasn’t, then what was the point? So now I just take an omega-3, vitamin D and calcium, and magnesium. I also have a probiotic that is specific to me, but my advice would be to go and have a test if you can afford one, because otherwise you might well be chucking stuff down your neck that you don’t actually need.”

She Uses The 80/20 Approach

Mel is a fan of the 80/20 approach. While most people think of this as an approach to eating, Mel sees it as an approach to everything. “The 80/20 is common sense, isn’t it,” she tells Your Healthy Living. “I try to create a good work/life balance, but like most people that can feel impossible, at times. But my working head is usually Monday to Friday, so across those days I will eat really well, healthily, sensibly, and will try not to drink. And then at the weekend I do what I want. That’s the way it’s meant to be, isn’t it?! That’s not to say I’m going to throw away all that good work by delving into really fatty stuff like a burger and chips, but I do believe in treats – they’re good for the mind… for the soul. We can’t always deny ourselves.”
