Everything We Know About Taylor Swift’s Life Of A Showgirl Album

The singer is set to release her 12th album on October 3rd.

Taylor Swift is gearing up to release her 12th album soon. It is called The Life Of A Showgirl. Last month, she announced the album on her very first podcast interview on the New Heights podcast. Coincidentally, the podcast is hosted by her fiance, Travis Kelce, and his brother, Jason Kelce. Since then, Taylor’s been teasing the album visuals on Instagram, and dropped some hints about what her fans can expect. Here’s everything a Swiftie needs to know about Taylor Swift’s 12th album, The Life Of A Showgirl.

The Lead Single

After dropping the tracklist, many Swifties wondered what the lead single would be. In an Instagram post, Taylor revealed that the first track on the album, “The Fate Of Ophelia” is the lead single, and a music video was filmed. Many fans think that the album cover is a reference to this song, as the Hamlet character, Ophelia, which the track is likely named after, drowned. Taylor is seen in a bathtub on the cover, making fans think she is comparing her life to Ophelia’s. This wouldn’t be the first time Taylor’s written a song based on a Shakespeare play. Her mega hit “Love Story” is based off of Romeo & Juliet.

There Will Be A Movie Event On The Same Day

Taylor is no stranger to releasing movies. She’s done a tour film for each of her tours. In 2020, she released a documentary about her life, Miss Americana, for Netflix. And her Eras Tour movie was released in theaters as a partnership with AMCE. Taylor is continuing that relationship, and revealed on her Instagram post that there will be a movie event on the weekend the album is released. Taylor captioned the post, “I hereby invite you to a *dazzling* soirée, The Official Release Party of a Showgirl: Oct 3 – Oct 5 only in cinemas! You’ll get to see the exclusive world premiere of the music video for my new single ‘The Fate of Ophelia’, along with never before seen behind-the-scenes footage of how we made it, cut by cut explanations of what inspired this music, and the brand new lyric videos from my new album The Life of a Showgirl ❤️‍🔥”

The Merch

Taylor always releases merchandise for her albums, and Life Of A Showgirl is no exception. On the 17th, she announced a new cardigan inspired by the album in bright sparkly orange. This is significant, as many Swifties first started thinking a new album was on the way when Taylor posted a lot of photos of herself in orange outfits. Taylor has also released vinyl variants of the album for pre-order, including one exclusively for Target.

The Producers

Taylor announced the producers who worked with her on The Life of A Showgirl during her New Heights interview. She revealed that she is reuniting with Max Martin and Shellback, whom she hasn’t worked with since her sixth album, reputation. Max and Shellback also worked with Taylor on her albums 1989 and Red. While she re-released both of those albums after her masters was bought, neither returned for the re-recording.

It Was Written On The Eras Tour

Many fans are wondering what the mood of this album will be. Taylor revealed on New Heights, as reported by Rolling Stone, that it was written during the Europe leg of the Eras Tour last year. “I would be playing shows. I would do like three shows in a row. I’d have three days off,” Taylor said. “I’d fly to Sweden, go back to the tour, and was actually working on this. I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating.” Taylor’s previous album, The Tortured Poets Department was written at the beginning of the Eras Tour, however, while that was more about her personal struggles, this album looks to be more about her triumphs. “This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant,” Taylor said on New Heights. “It just comes from like the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life. And so that effervescence has come through on this record.”
