Known as one of the most beautiful women in the world, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is 49 and thriving. The actress employs a holistic approach to her health and wellness routine, with focus on gentle exercise and traditional therapies over grueling workouts and punishing diets. Bachchan looks better every year—so how does she do it? Here’s how the Indian star is only improving with age.

1. She Loves Yoga

Young,Woman,Meditates,While,Practicing,Yoga.,Freedom,Concept.,Calmness,AndShutterstock

Yoga is Bachchan’s main form of exercise, with lots of walking on the side. “Researchers found that people who practiced yoga for at least 30 minutes once a week for at least four years, gained less weight during middle adulthood,” say the experts at Harvard Health. “People who were overweight actually lost weight. Overall, those who practiced yoga had lower body mass indexes (BMIs) compared with those who did not practice yoga.”

2. Comfort First

Bachchan stays true to her individual style when it comes to beauty. “Fashion and makeup is like art—I have fun with it,” she says. “There’s also a whole team of professionals involved, like the stylists, hairdressers, make-up artists and designers. But the bottom line for me is that I don’t lose my personality and I stay comfortable.”

3. Simplicity With Beauty Routine

Bachchan has a “less is more” approach to beauty these days. "I believe in keeping it simple, keeping it real and even though one chooses to use makeup and I think that is wonderful, it enhances your features,” she says. “And feeling comfortable in your skin - and that's been the mantra and luckily the people who I've worked with have advised me the same in the professional capacity."

4. Lots of Water

Bachchan makes sure to stay hydrated for her health and appearance. “The beauty advice I would pass on to my daughter is simple—always drink a lot of water, nourish your skin and hair with vitamin-rich food and keep it simple,” she says. “I think the biggest learning I can give her is to be at peace with herself and be happy—that will make her a naturally beautiful human being, inside and out.”

5. Using Hair Oil

Bachchan regularly oils her hair to keep it strong, shiny, and moisturized. “I do feel it’s extremely important to nourish and oil your hair regularly, and essential oils are my biggest indulgence,” she says. “It’s also really important to eat healthy, as what you eat has a direct impact on your skin and hair.”

6. Go-To Makeup Look

"Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny" Red Carpet - The 76th Annual Cannes Film FestivalStephane Cardinale/Getty Images

Bachchan’s favorite makeup style is red lipstick and a cat-eye eyeliner flick. “For the day, I am partial to lip colors in shades of nude, pink, peach, beige and earthy brown,” she says. At night she prefers “light shimmery shades for the lips and smokey eyes.”

7. Homemade Face Masks

Bachchan loves raiding her kitchen for at-home beauty solutions. The actress has a go-to list when it comes to creating face masks. “A pack with besan, cream, and turmeric, a massage with honey and curd, a banana face mask, and milk and almond oil face packs,” she says.

1. Jennifer Lopez

2019 Toronto International Film Festival - "Hustlers" Premiere - ArrivalsAmy Sussman/Getty Images

Jennifer Lopez is known for her ageless looks, and shared some of her secrets in an interview with InStyle. "My mom and aunts swear by olive oil to deliver a glow. The hero ingredient in JLo Beauty is a modernized version of olive oil, called the Olive Complex. It's a combination of ingredients derived from extra-virgin olive oil, fermented oil, leaf extract, and squalane. It gives the skin this weightless, all-day hydration, antioxidant protection, and an ageless radiance. And it doesn't smell like salad dressing

2. Salma Hayek

"House Of Gucci" New York PremiereMichael Ostuni/Getty Images

For Salma Hayek, skincare is a daily thing. "I've never gone to bed without washing my face,” she told InStyle. “Never in my life. Even if I'm sick, tired — heck, even if I was drunk! I might forget to take off the dress, the shoes, and the jewelry, but not the makeup. It's second nature."

3. Halle Berry

27th Annual Critics Choice Awards - ArrivalsAxelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic

For Halle Berry, skincare is all about keeping her skin a little hydrated. "No matter what age you are, you always look a little better when your skin is a little dewy, not too powdery,” she explained to InStyle. I went through phases where all I wanted to do was be matte and powdered up, but then I found it wasn't the best look for me. Before I do my makeup, I spray my face with rosewater and let that sink in. It keeps my makeup looking very dewy, and I feel like it just makes me look more youthful, alive, and fresh."

4. Sarah Jessica Parker

Celebrity Sightings In New York City - July 14, 2021James Devaney/GC Images

For Sarah Jessica Parker, skincare is all about hydration. "The thing I'm most diligent about is washing my face," she told InStyle. "I say to my husband, 'Oh, I'm so tired, Matthew! I don't want to wash my face.' He's like, 'Why do you need to?' He doesn't get it. I also always wear moisturizer and lip balm."

5. Kelly Ripa

Los Angeles LGBT Center's 49th Anniversary Gala Vanguard AwardsVivien Killilea/Getty Images

TV host and actress, Kelly Ripa broke down her anti-aging secrets to InStyle. She says that each morning, she takes care of her skin. “My day starts around 5 a.m.," she says. "I'm way into jade and rose quartz face rollers, so I put them in a bowl of ice and literally sit there and roll my face until I'm awake. But there's nothing like a good cup of coffee."

6. Gabrielle Union

Premiere Of Disney's "Cheaper By The Dozen"Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images

Gabrielle Union has become known for her amazing skin. She shared some of her tips in an interview with Byrdie. "I do drink a gallon of water a day. I started that in my mid to late 30s. So for a good 10 years, I've been drinking a gallon of water a day. It makes a difference for hair, skin, nails, all of it.”

7. Cindy Crawford

Premiere Of "Summer: The Donna Summer Musical" At Hollywood Pantages TheatreRodin Eckenroth/Getty Images

Cindy Crawford has maintained her supermodel good looks into her 50s. She even had her own line of skincare. "It's never too early, and never too late, to start taking care of your skin,” Crawford told Byrdie. “Dr. Jean-Louis Sebagh taught me the daytime is about protecting your skin and then the nighttime is about restoring it. I have learned that it's like working out. You work out once—you don't really see a big difference. But if you work out regularly for years, you do. I think skincare is the same way. So I've made taking care of my skin part of my routine.”

8. Padma Lakshmi

Glossier, Cherry Bombe And The Cinema Society Host A Special Screening Of "Taste The Nation" Season TwoDia Dipasupil/Getty Images

TV host Padma Lakshmi is surrounded by food. And this includes her skincare. “The biggest thing for skin, and it doesn't cost a lot of money, is honey,” she revealed to Byrdie. “When I used to travel and I didn't have a lot of money, I would always find honey on the breakfast tray at a hotel or something. You just wash and cleanse your skin, take all the makeup off, pat your skin dry, and then slather honey all over your face, avoiding the delicate eye area. And then you just tap your fingers on your face, almost like you're playing piano on your skin. And what that does is pull out the impurities in your pores without upsetting the pH balance.”

9. Kerry Washington

2022 Baby2Baby Gala Presented By Paul Mitchell - GalaPresley Ann/Getty Images

Kerry Washington shared some of her beauty secrets in an interview with Allure. She says that she loves products with hyaluronic acid, and cites a concealer and gel-cream from Neutrogena as favorites. “It has hyaluronic acid in the center,” she says of the concealer. “So when you use it, you’re moisturizing while you’re covering. It’s great for under-eyes and laugh lines. I have spots like anybody else, particularly from hormones from pregnancy and then nursing. I use concealer to help along the way while they’re fading.” Washington also explains about the gel-cream, “I love moisturizers that do double duty. This one contains hyaluronic acid. I haven’t put any [fillers] on the inside yet, but I’m digging hyaluronic acid on the outside. I think it’s God’s gift to women.”

10. Nicole Kidman

Los Angeles Premiere Of Amazon Studios' "Being The Ricardos" - Red CarpetRich Fury/Getty Images

One of Nicole Kidman’s biggest skincare secrets is sun protection. “I’m so outdoorsy,” she told Byrdie. “I love playing tennis, and I love working out outdoors. I love going for a run and swimming, and I just want to be able to do all of that and protect my skin because I get burnt. So having the access to Neutrogena’s skincare and suncare is fantastic for me. And I know a lot about it because I’ve researched it; I’ve been educated; I have enormous knowledge about it now. I use vitamin C too because that does give you some protection long-term.”

11. Tracee Ellis Ross

CultureCon NYC '22Steven Ferdman/Getty Images

Tracee Ellis Ross broke down her skincare routine to Vogue. My skincare routine is extensive. “At night, if I’ve worn make-up when I’m working, I use Bioderma to remove my make-up. Then I use CosMedix Benefit Clean, which is a bit of a soapy cleanser, and I use it with a mitt. After that I do a Terri Lawton Serum Toner. Usually at night, I’ll apply the Retrouvé Intensive – it’s a really hydrating moisturiser – and then I put Biologique Recherche T.E.W.L. serum over that. In the morning, I use Retrouvé Gentle Cleanser, and while it’s on my face I use the Pause Well-Aging Gua Sha for about three minutes. After I’ve rinsed the cleanser off with a warm washcloth, I put the Biologique oil on my face, and then use the the brand’s Cryo Sticks – they look like little teardrops and I keep them in the fridge. I do about two minutes on my face with them.”

Sofia told Women’s Health that she exercises three or four times a week with a trainer. "Joe"—that's her husband, actor Joe Manganiello—"built a very nice gym in the house, so I don't have any excuses," she said.

2. She Uses a Megaformer

During her workouts, Sofia’s trainer incorporates the Megaformer, "which is like an advanced Pilates machine" that combines cardio, strength, balance, and flexibility, she told Women’s Health.

3. She Doesn’t Love Working Out...But She Does It Anyway

While her husband enjoys exercising, Sofia admits "it's like torture” for her. "I'm in a bad mood two hours before, I'm in a bad mood while I'm doing it, I'm in a bad mood at the end because I have to schedule the next class," she told Women’s Health.

4. She Recently Started Lifting Weights

Weight lifting has been a game changer for Sofia. “The one thing that I have done that really has made a difference in my body is lifting weights. Not crazy weights. But, you know, like five pounds, seven pounds, 10 pounds. Twelve pounds is the maximum I can do. It keeps your muscles tight, and your skin tighter to you,” she told Health. “I’ve done Pilates and spinning, and I’ve tried all sorts of things—and they’re great.”

5. She Loves Sweets

"I heard about someone in L.A. who got hypnotized so they wouldn't eat candy," she told Shape. "I'm seriously looking into that because I'm obsessed. When I do indulge, I exercise a bit harder the next day. My workout motto is really simple: No pain, no cake!"

Sofia eats and drinks not only to stay in shape, but to keep her skin glowing. “I eat a lot of vegetables, and I eat blueberries, and I drink green tea. And I add, like, a spoon of powdered collagen to chamomile tea at night—I don’t know what that does [laughs] but I do it! And I try to drink lots of water,” she told Health.

Jennifer Lopez, Sandra Bullock, Beyonce, and Gabrielle Union have one thing in common: They keep getting older, but refuse to age! Sure, Hollywood stars have an advantage when it comes to longevity compared to the general population, as they have access to personal trainers, chefs, and expensive products, creams, and fitness equipment. However, many of them maintain that their forever-young looks are the result of simple healthy habits. Read on to see 10 stars who haven’t aged in 20 years and learn about their secrets to longevity—and to get beach-ready yourself, don't miss these essential 30 Best-Ever Celebrity Bathing Suit Photos!

1. Sandra Bullock

sandra-bullockGetty Images

Sandra Bullock, 57, has a sense of humor about her longevity. "I'm sleeping in a container that is devoid of outside carcinogens, that helps lift what you don't have and — come on, please!" she joked to Entertainment Tonight in 2018 when asked about her secret to anti-aging. In all seriousness, she revealed to InStyle that exercise, including Pilates, kickboxing, and weight training with Simone La Rue, helps keep her body forever young. "When I'm in Austin, I run or ride a bike," she explained. "If I can work out every day, I will."

2. Jennifer Lopez

jennifer-lopezGetty Images

Jennifer Lopez is the first to admit she is in the best shape of her life at 52. “In my 20s and 30s I used to work out but not like I do now,” she told InStyle’s 2021 The Beauty Issue. “It's not that I work out more; I just work out harder and smarter. And it doesn't take me as long as it did in the past. I do it more for my health than I do for looks, which is funny. When you do things for the right reasons, you actually look better!” She also drinks a ton of water, per her trainer Dodd Romero. “She drinks a minimum of seven glasses a day,” he told US Weekly.

3. Jennifer Aniston

AnistonGetty Images

If you want to look like Jennifer Aniston at 52, plan on transforming your eating habits. "I don't let eating habits get out of control where I need a reset button. My general philosophy is to eat healthy. It's pretty clear: eat as much organic fruits and veggies as you can, keep sugar [intake] low, drink tons and tons of water, and get good sleep,” she told Yahoo Food. In fact, when it comes to cheating, she has the willpower to eat a morsel. “A chip. Crunch, crunch, crunch,” she recently joked to InStyle about her stress-eating food of choice. “Usually. I'm good at that. I can have one M&M, one chip. I know, that's so annoying.”

4. Catherine Zeta Jones

catherine-zeta-jonesGetty Images

Catherine Zeta-Jones attributes her ageless figure to constantly moving. She exercises “at least 45 minutes a day, seven days a week,” she told InStyle, adding that fitness also boosts her mental health. “It really helps my mood too, which, with the bipolar thing, is important,” she said. She added to W that swimming, tennis, peloton, working out in her home gym and tap dancing are some of her other favorite workouts. "I have a ballet barre in my gym,” she told The Telegraph. "I turn the music up so loud that the walls are pulsating, and I go for it for an hour. I also hula-hoop, walk on the treadmill, do the elliptical [machine]. I try to keep the whole body working.”

5. Beyonce

beyonceGetty Images

Beyonce has been dabbling in plant-based eating since 2018, when she famously went on Marco Borges’ 22-day Vegan Challenge. “Me getting the weight off was so much easier than getting back in shape and my body feeling comfortable,” she said in a 2019 YouTube video about her transformation.

6. Eva Longoria

eva-longoriaGetty Images

Eva Longoria doesn’t take any shortcuts when it comes to her health. "Especially as you get older, people want to know the secret to looking good and there is no secret. It's diet and exercise," she told Vogue Australia. "People say they eat well but they don't exercise. Or they run 20 miles a day but they can't lose weight. You have to do both." Some of her workouts include trampoline exercise and strength training with Julia Brown of Thrive With Julia or Grant Roberts of Granite Gym. “I do very heavy weights,” she recently told Women’s Health. A few include squats on a weight rack with at least one 25-pound plate on each end and hip thrusts with a 50-pound plate on her hips. “I feel like my body changes the most when I do that—I wear a heart rate monitor, and I can see my heart rate spike from just doing a heavy bicep curl,” she added.

7. Gabrielle Union

gabrielle-unionGetty Images

How has Gabrielle Union maintained her glow? She drinks a gallon of water per day. “It's made a tremendous difference with my hair, skin, and nails. Everyone is always like, 'What did you do differently than everyone else? Why are you aging so slow?' It's something that everyone has access to and it not only helps with your beauty, it also helps with your fitness and digestion,” she told Elle. Her goal is to chug half a gallon by noon, “casually” drinking the other half until 6:00 pm. During workouts she drinks “a good 32 ounces” to stay fueled up. “Just try and do as much as you can early,” she suggests.

8. Gwyneth Paltrow

gwyneth-paltrowGetty Images

Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow does a lot of things to promote longevity, including cleanses and healthy eating. But when it comes to her body she doesn’t need to try any new trends and sticks with the Tracy Anderson Method. “Her method works so well for me. I've seen all these fads come and go, and nothing works for me the way that Tracy's approach does, so I really stick with it,” she told Shape. “Many of you may already know of my passion for the Tracy Anderson Method and my investment in it. She has kicked my formerly sagging ass into shape and I will be forever grateful,” she added on Goop.

9. Reese Witherspoon

reece-witherspoonGetty Images

Reese’s secret to looking good? “In my 30s, I learned to accept my body for what it is. This is what looks good on it. It will never look good in that thing over there with all the fabric and the bows and the ruffles. It just won't,” she revealed in the December 2021 issue of InStyle. In a recent Instagram Reel, she also confessed that drinking lots of water and sleep help keep her looking and feeling great. “In bed by 10pm. *no late night TV binges,” she said. “Try to get 8 hours of rest!”

10. Halle Berry

halle-berryGetty Images

In addition to her commitment to exercise, the keto diet and intermittent fasting have been keeping Halle Berry looking decades younger for, well, decades. During an appearance on Live With Kelly and Ryan she explained that the diet helps her manage her diabetes. "Nothing white. No sugar, no carbs," she said. Healthy fats like "avocado, coconut oil, butter" and no sugar also help. "That's the secret!" In an August 2018 Instagram story she discussed intermittent fasting, revealing that she eats two meals a day, saying she would "normally skip breakfast" and "sort of fast.”

Sometimes we take steps back & that’s just a sign to course correct so we can leap forward. If 2024 wasn’t the year you expected, use it as an opportunity to learn, grow, & carry on. It’s you VS you - continue to try, focus on consistency > perfection & you will prevail 🤎 rooting for us all to strengthen our mind & bodies this year,” she captioned the series of Instagram snaps. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

Strength Training

Mariana relies on old-school strength training to keep her body toned. “Training till failure instead of reps + taking my ab routine up a notch by incorporating weighted exercises,” she wrote about one of her workout tactics. “I can feel my muscles being challenged and am in tune with my movements.” According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Prioritizing Digestion and Getting Blood Work Done

Other healthy habits? “Prioritizing digestion,” she writes in the same post. “Making sure I get enough fiber & starting off every morning with a juice cleanse. This has helped me feel so much better everyday.” She also gets regular blood work done. “So important to check your levels and know what’s going on in your body routinely! Don’t skip the doc apts, always better to be preventative.”

Hiking

Mariana enjoys hiking. “Elevation therapy,” she captioned a post from one of her fitness adventures. According to the National Parks Service, the physical benefits of hiking include:

  • Building stronger muscles and bones
  • Improving your sense of balance
  • Improving your heart health
  • Decreasing the risk of some respiratory issues

Mariana does reformer Pilates. “POV: Stepping into the prettiest torture chamber,” she wrote across a video of herself at the studio. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Emsculpt NEO

Mariana recently got an aesthetic body treatment, Emsculpt NEO. “I’ve heard all the rage about the benefits to spot reducing fat & toning muscle so I had to give it a try to target those pesky lower abs. It was a 10/10 & a great addition to my workout routine,” she wrote.

She’s Consistent

Last year, Culpo was preparing for her wedding. She told E! News that she made sure to be consistent with her wellness in order to prepare. “Really trying to dial in [on] what I eat, how I workout, the workouts that I do. Trying to get them in consistently because you only get married once and I want to feel my best. But this past season it was just hard being so far away from my normal routine and where I typically live."

She Keeps Her Skin Healthy While Traveling

Culpo has amazing skin, and she makes sure to take care of it, even while traveling. “I don't wear any makeup when traveling," she says to Travel + Leisure. "That's one rule because I do feel like you will have a higher chance of breaking out if you are wearing a full face of makeup. A few things I always have with me is some sort of a spray. I love Dr. Barbara Sturm or Caudalie or La Mer. I also absolutely love traveling with a makeup wipe, the Neutrogena wipes are great. Something to just take off the sweat you build up.”

She Keeps Her Skincare Simple

Culpo shared her skincare routines with Byrdie. She says that she keeps her morning and night routine simple. “I am always trying out new products, so what I gravitate toward is often changing. At night, I usually use an oil and a serum. Right now, I love the Clarins Double Serum. In the morning, I use a Vitamin C serum and an SPF, and, typically, I just rinse my skin with warm water instead of using a cleanser. It is something I swear by—it allows for the oils on my skin from sleeping to absorb naturally.”

She Uses Products With Vitamins

Culpo shared some of her favorite skincare products with Byrdie. She says that she uses ones that have vitamins in them. “I have noticed a huge difference in my skin with vitamin C and E. I love the Good Janes H2OMyGod Moisturizer—it's sort of an all-in-one moisturizer that has vitamin C and collagen peptides. As for vitamin E, I actually just purchase the oil from the drugstore. It is super cheap and great to put on any red marks I may get from an occasional breakout. The healing process is so much quicker when I am using Vitamin E oil.”

She Packs Healthy Snacks

Culpo makes sure to eat healthy. She shared some of the snacks she packs with her with Travel + Leisure. "I love the Kind bars. I love any sort of nuts, to be honest with you. They are a go-to snack for me. I would say Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% and some almonds would be perfect! Also, electrolytes to stay hydrated or some sort of collagen beauty powder or something."

Abigail Ratchford’s amazing body has helped her become one of the most famous models on the internet. The 32-year-old, who boasts over 9.1 million followers on Instagram alone, attributes her measurement-defying body to a few simple habits. Here is everything she does to stay fit at 32.

She Follows 4 Diet Rules

Abigail swears that abiding by simple rules helps her stay in shape. “I can’t diet. That just doesn’t work for me,” she told New Beauty. “I started to be healthier by first cutting out soda. Then, I stopped eating after 7 p.m. Finally, I started really watching my portions so I was eating fewer calories every day. And water—lots and lots of water.”

She UsesMyFitnessPal

Abigail explains being accountable for what she eats is crucial. While it’s not “rocket science,” she does use the MyFitnessPal app to track her eating. “I’m the type of person who likes to eat what I want. The app can help anyone do that—you can still eat great food, you just eat less of it,” she added New Beauty.

Pilates

Abigail is a fan of Pilates. “Group workout classes are so big right now, but I always get nervous around other people in settings like that. I have to go at my own pace without a bunch of distractions so, for me, Pilates with a one-on-one instructor works best. It’s not cheap, but then you also aren’t tempted to skip,” she said She added to Men’s Fitness via Muscle & Fitness that the workout “keeps you long and lean” — and the Mayo Clinic agrees. They say it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, relief from stress and back pain, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Balanced Diet

“I love green juices and smoothies. Sometimes I’ll put some protein powder in the morning—I feel like the mix of vegetables, and vitamins and stuff that’s in them, really gives me a lot of energy in the morning. I love BBQ food—my ultimate cheat is a pulled pork sandwich, sweet potato fries, and macaroni and cheese from this great place in LA,” she told Men’s Fitness.

Strength Training

Ratchford also lifts weights. “Initially, I made the mistake that a lot of girls do and I was only doing cardio. I just really didn’t see too much change in my body. I’ve been listening to my girlfriends who are in great shape and they say you have to do weight training, you have to go in and do squats. That’s my new thing—I’ve been doing some resistance training, circuit training,” she told Men’s Fitness. The Mayo Clinic explains that strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

Develop strong bones

Manage your weight

Enhance your quality of life

Manage chronic conditions

Sharpen your thinking skills
