Alyssa relied on a low-carb diet to lose her baby weight in 2014 before switching to Atkins. "This journey with Atkins is about me feeling better overall, having more energy and reaching my happy weight," Alyssa, a spokesperson for the brand, told People. "I enjoy all my favorite foods. I love chicken and fish; I eat lots of vegetables, healthy fats, low sugar fruits, cheese, and nuts. Some of my favorite things include parmesan-crusted chicken with cheesy cauliflower bake and tacos night with fresh guacamole. I have all the fixings and just use lettuce cups in place of tortillas," she says. "In fact, Atkins inspired me to learn how to cook for myself and my family using foods that are lower in carbs."
Try Group Fitness
Alyssa is a big fan of group fitness. "I don't like working with a one-on-one coach. I feel like it's too much pressure," she told E! News. "I love spinning," Alyssa added to The Cut during an event at Peloton. "I also love Pilates and yoga. Occasionally I'll take a dance class or a Zumba class. But I really like to spin because I feel like it's a full-body workout: 45 minutes, you're in and you're out. I don't really have time for much more than that. I used to do a lot of yoga, but I just don't have time for a 90-minute class anymore."
Hydrate
Alyssa makes sure to drink six glasses of water with lemon every single day, she told People. According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is important for a variety of reasons. Water helps get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.
Drink Protein Shakes
Alyssa prioritizes getting enough protein. She starts her day with a cup of coffee with almond milk and a protein shake – two cups of almond milk, an ounce of whey protein powder, one-half small banana and one-quarter tsp. cinnamon. Protein is important when it comes to weight loss. According to clinical trials, consuming more protein than the recommended dietary allowance not only reduces body weight (BW), but also enhances body composition by decreasing fat mass while preserving fat-free mass (FFM) in both low-calorie and standard-calorie diets.
Prioritize Lifestyle Over Diet
Healthy living is not a trend for Alyssa – it's a lifestyle. "I don't use the word diet because if I use the word diet, it's not happening," she told E! News.
Don't Eat Alone
"I actually don't like to eat alone," Milano told The Cut. "I think that has something to do with the fact that I'm Italian, and food is always about family and celebration and having meals. So if I'm alone, I'm much more likely to pick up a shake or a bar than I am to actually sit and have a meal by myself."
