How does the singer approach mental and physical health? Here are her go-to health and wellness habits, including diet and exercise.
Strength Training
Strength training is part of Chappell’s routine. To prepare for her tour she trained six days a week. “I would be doing burpees, jump squats, jump rope, high knees,” Chappell told 1824. According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and build lean muscle mass, and increase calorie burn. Strength training may also help you:
- Develop strong bones
- Manage your weight
- Enhance your quality of life
- Manage chronic conditions
- Sharpen your thinking skills
Cardio Vocal Training
She also shared on TikTok that she did two months of “cardio vocal training,” which involved singing while running around and jump roping, to be able to run around onstage, which she admits was “very hard,” but was beneficial. “I literally don’t feel like I’m going to throw up anymore when I sing and run, so… ” she said.
Running
Chappell is a runner. She was a high school cross-country runner, qualifying for the Missouri State Cross-Country Championships. According to the Mayo Clinic, running is excellent for cardiovascular health, muscle building, and weight loss. “For every mile run, the average person will burn approximately 100 calories,” they say.
Mental Health Advocacy
Chappell was diagnosed with bipolar II disorder when she was 22, and is very open about her condition. “It saved us,” she said about going to family therapy. She has also shared that in the most challenging stages, she “wasn’t sleeping,” and “I was on the incorrect meds.” She entered therapy again in 2022, telling Rolling Stone: “I realized I can’t live like this. I can’t live being so depressed or feel so lost that I want to kill myself.” And, she is grateful it happened before her rise to fame. “I would not have been able to handle any of this even a year ago today. It would’ve just been too much,” she said.
Sleep
Chappell understands the importance of sleep, as it plays into bipolar disorder. What are the health benefits of sleep? According to the Sleep Foundation, getting enough z’s is a mood booster, promotes heart health, regulates blood sugar, improves mental function, restores your immune system, helps relieve stress, and aids in weight loss.
