Diane Guerrero is practicing gratitude on her birthday. In a new social media post the actress shows off her washboard abs in a two-piece workout set while eating cake on the coach. “Thank you god for my community,” she wrote in the caption of the Instagram post, adding all the other things she is grateful for. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.


1. Hydration

Diane’s number one tip she learned from her mami on how to keep your skin glowing? Aside from salt scrubs, lots of water! “Most of all, drinking water, so your body and skin can stay hydrated,” she told Cosmopolitan. According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is important for a variety of reasons. Water helps get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.

2. Reading

Diane advocates self-care. “I do things that make me happy: Call my mother, get some fresh air, read a book. Sometimes I have pineapple when I'm feeling sad. It reminds me of summer joy, my mother feeding it to me for sweetness so I could feel better,” she told Cosmopolitan. One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years compared with people who weren't readers or who read periodicals.

Guerrero is a fan of cinnamon & honey tea. “[I] drink that 4 times a day for a week, then take a week off, and do it again for a week. That is for skin & reproductive health,” she told HOLA! Numerous studies have shown that a variety of teas may boost your immune system, fight off inflammation, and even ward off cancer and heart disease.

4. Baths

Diane enjoys soaking in the rub “Certainly now that my mental health is better, the treatment toward my body has been a lot better. That's the one thing that I've noticed that has been so good and so amazing. I'm not saying, ‘Hey, self care is just taking a bath or a shower….’ Generally, I kind of just stay clean. And I try to remember everything that I have, like stuff that makes me feel better,” she told Well + Good. How can baths do your body and mind good? They have been linked to better sleep and even found helpful to minimize anxiety and depression. One recent study even found that they may even boast cardiovascular benefits.

5. Meditation

Diane also gets her zen on. “I start off with meditation and a shower in the morning,” she told Well + Good. “When you meditate, you may clear away the information overload that builds up every day and contributes to your stress,” says the Mayo Clinic. Benefits include:
