Fantasia Barrino In Workout Gear Says "Guess What I'm Training For?"

“Thou shalt work out every day.”

It's been 20 years since Fantasia Barrino won American Idol—and now she's teasing fans with what's coming next. Barrino, 40, shared a video of herself wearing blue Christian Dior leggings and a matching sports bra, going through a sequence of strength training exercises under the eye of a personal trainer. "Thou shalt: 'Workout every day' bet you can't guess what I'm training for? 🤦🏾‍♀️ @sosonya15," she captioned the post. Here's how the singer stays fit, strong, and happy.

1

Healthy Lifestyle

Barrino loves to stay active with outdoor activities such as hiking and golf. She limits alcohol and fast food to protect her health. "I have never been a big sweets girl, so that is not super challenging to stay away from. I want to be around for many, many years to come," she captioned an Instagram post. "What's in food, especially meats today is not healthy for the human body! This journey will not be easy, but I want to share with you all because it's necessary and I know someone else is battling with the same thing! It's more than about looking good, it's about changing your lifestyle to become a healthier version of yourself. I don't want to feel tired, sluggish and continue to make excuses on why 'I can't.'"

She's a Sommelier

Barrino is a certified sommelier. "I really love the process of it, and I also love to drink it because it's good," she told ELLE. "I love the process of wine. I fell in love with it when my husband took me to a winery and I felt like, this may sound crazy, but I kind of felt like my life was like what wine has to go through—the pressing. I wanted to know more about it. We're coming out with a red wine; we're coming out with a rosé."

Fasting and Praying

Barrino touched into her spiritual side when performing on Broadway. "I fasted for seven months while I was doing my last Broadway play, After Midnight," she told xoNecole. "I started realizing that what I was doing wasn't working for me, so I did something very corny and I put a ring on my own finger. I did a lot of praying and watched a lot of things that were good for my spirit."

Jazz, Candles, Books

Barrino is thrilled with her run as Celie in The Color Purple. "I want to still be singing at 70 years old," she told Oprah Winfrey. "I want to be open to the dreams I haven't even dreamed up, because I never thought I'd be on Broadway! Every night when I play Celie, I feel myself growing up. Now I do things I never would've done before: I listen to jazz, light candles, read books—and I didn't used to like reading! I am becoming a woman."

Confidence and Ambition

Barrino has self-confidence in herself and her abilities.  "I'm at that point where as an artist, I'm supposed to be able to creatively share what I want to share with the world musically, video-wise, fashion-wise," she told xoNecole. "I'm supposed to be able to express that and not have someone tell me what to sing, how it should sound, what to wear. I'm just finally to that point of like, if I'm going to go through all that I'm going to go through. If I'm gonna catch flack and people talking about me, I might as well just do what I want to do the way I want to do it."
