Gabrielle Reece in Bikini with Husband Laird Hamilton Is “Goals”

Here are her diet and fitness habits

Gabrielle Reece is honoring her husband, Laird Hamilton, in her bikini. In a new social media post, the former volleyball star shows off her amazing figure in a bathing suit while paying homage to her pro surfer hubby. “We don’t vacation and I often say I don’t need presents on specials days, because when you are doing what you love with who you love everyday is special. Deeply grateful for the only partner this life could be built with, it’s a privilege,” Reece captioned the series of Instagram snaps. “Honored. Grateful,” responded her husband. “Goals,” Bethenny Frankel commented. “I just love yall,” added Nicole Scherzinger. How does the athlete approach health and wellness? Here are her top diet and fitness habits.

1

HIIT Workouts

Reece told Parade that her approach to fitness starts with high-intensity interval training. “I try to create a little bit of structure. Monday, Wednesday and Friday I typically will do some kind of HIIT, high intensity mixed bag of exercises that I change each time. It’s about 60 minutes of work, a little bit less. I write the workouts, a mix of resistance, strength and dumbbells. I’m busy and I don’t have a ton of time just to sit there and be like, “it’s leg day.” That doesn’t exist. I’m not gonna spend three hours on legs. This is also about agility and functional movement,” she said.

Breathing Exercises

She also practices breathing. “After I workout, I try to do a breathing routine that’s about 15 to 20 minutes, to start the recovery process and down-regulating. It’s really important that even if we’re sitting at our desk or driving in our car, that we’re nose breathing as often as we possibly can. That’s a really important health idea. So my routine involves a lot of nose breathing and oxygenating the tissues and the cells. That’s Monday, Wednesday, Friday if the schedule permits in a perfect world,” she said.

Pool Workouts

Gabby also exercises in the pool. “Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, I’m in the pool. My husband and I developed pool training. I couple that with heat, a sauna and ice tubs. And what I like about that training is it’s a lot of ballistic movements but in a no-gravity environment. And so as an aging athlete, that environment helps me work really hard and be in performance. It’s something that is uber challenging but also nurturing at the same time,” she told Parade.

4

Hydration

Gabby hydrates. “First thing in the morning, I drink water with lemon and minerals in it because when we sleep, we haven’t had anything to drink and so we’re probably dehydrated. I start with a very large glass of water,” she said.

5

Fasts

Gabby does day-long fasts. “What my husband and I will also do, which is at times a misery, is take off a day of eating here and there. Like 30 hours and all you’re having is either caffeine and water. He handles it much better than I do. And I think people have to be smart about it, especially for women. We have to ask ourselves, “Where am I in my hormone cycle?” and things like that. But I’ve found incredible success from that like the feeling of less inflammation. And what’s also so good about it is you are not thinking about snacks; you are thinking about food. And so what it does is resets your baseline,” she said.
