Aside from gymnastics, how does the professional athlete stay fit? Here are some of her favorite workouts.

1. She Runs

Nastia works out every day. "I always feel better when I get in a workout," she says, "even if it's 30 minutes or 20 minutes of something, every single day," she told Today. "I think the most important thing to know is, you'll never regret a workout when it's over. And it's just hard to tell yourself that before you've done it. But just try to remember how you feel after your workout, and know that when you feel good, you look good, and you have more confidence, and so I think that that's really important." One of her go-to workouts? "The most effective for me is running, though it's not my favorite," she told Today about her go-to workout. "But if I need to get in shape quickly, I need to run."

2. She Planks and Does Russian Twists

She doesn’t lift weights often. "If I do weights, it's probably very light weights, five to ten pounds, no more than that." She does have three go-to exercise moves: A plank, side plank, and Russian twist. She planks for a total of one minute, then follows it up with 20 on each side of side planks and Russian twists, she revealed to Today.

3. She Also Boxes

Nastia mixes up her routine. “I love boxing with my trainer. Harvard Health maintains that boxing a great way to build strength, improve balance, posture, hand-eye coordination, boost mood and endurance, and helps increase alertness.

4. She Takes Barre Classes and Hot Yoga

New,York,,Ny,-,July,27:,Nastia,Luikin,Seen,InShutterstock

“I love barre classes and hot yoga. I love Pilates. That really elongates you, but it’s also important to do some kind of cardio and now that the weather’s nice I love running along the West Side. It’s a beautiful view. I take spinning classes, too,” she told The Cut.

4. She Eats Clean

Nastia doesn’t diet but focuses on eating clean. "A lot of protein, a lot of vegetables, a lot of greens. I don't really eat too many carbs, and if I do, it's brown rice or quinoa,” she told Today about what she puts in her body.

5. She Golfs

Nastia also loves playing golf. A comprehensive review published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that golf's health benefits are extensive, including mind, body, and even lifespan. Benefits include improved longevity, decreased risk of developing heart disease or suffering a stroke, good mental health, and improved strength and balance.

Gymnast Nastia Liukin is like all of us…in the fact that she wants to be in Hawaii right now, and desires warmer weather to arrive soon. 1. She’s Not Afraid To Push Herself

Being an Olympian is a great accomplishment, however, it also comes with a lot of difficulties. Many Olympic athletes are open about the pressure they face to show up and represent their country, especially after previous success. Liukin says that she didn’t let this pressure get to her, even when she came into the 2012 trials injured. Liukin tells Coveteur that she didn’t want to live life with any regrets, and still pushed herself to try. “I won gold at the 2008 Olympics. So when people started talking 2012, I didn’t want to be on the sidelines thinking, ‘What if? What if I’d tried out?’ Ignoring that I had an injured labrum and torn rotator cuff—with no time for surgery—I powered through and trained...and fell flat on my face during trials. I knew my dreams of a second Olympics were over, but I pulled myself up and finished the routine anyway, and, amazingly, it was the first standing ovation of my career—20,000 people on their feet, applauding because I’d finished. That’s wellness to me: realizing that life isn’t about winning. That it’s about finishing what you started and enjoying the journey along the way.”

2. She Takes Care Of Her Mental Health

U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame Class of 2019 Induction CeremonyJamie Schwaberow/Getty Images

Liukin tells Coveteur that she makes sure to take care of her mental health, especially after retiring from gymnastics. She says that she does a lot of things each day that helps take care of her mental health. “It’s funny because, as a gymnast, I was always physically exhausted—now that I’m retired, I’m more mentally exhausted. So, I like to write my thoughts in a journal; if I don’t have my journal, I write in my phone. But, really, my mental health revolves around two things: meditating, which to me is just closing my eyes and taking deep breaths and stepping away from my phone.”

3. She Alternates Her Workouts

The 2020 Beverly Hills Dog ShowSarah Morris/Getty Images

Liukin says to Coveteur that she likes to alternate the type of exercises she does. She says that she does this to target different areas of her body, and keep herself interested in working out. “I never like to do the same routine two days in a row, and I like to alternate between boxing, yoga and pilates—especially boxing because it’s toning and cardio at the same time.”

4. She Makes Time To Exercise On Vacation

While Liukin might not be an athlete anymore, she still makes working out a priority. Liukin says to Coveteur that she still works out when she’s on vacation, even if it’s just a quick session. “When I’m on the road, I still make sure to get the blood pumping every day—even if it’s just a few squats and push-ups in my hotel room.”

5. She Doesn’t Sleep In Anymore

Celebrities Visit Hallmark's "Home & Family"Paul Archuleta/Getty Images

Liukin revealed on her website that she loves to sleep. However, she says that she’s trying to break her past habits of sleeping in, and hitting the snooze button. “I’d become a classic ‘snoozer’, continuing to want just five more minutes of extra zzz’s,” she writes. Liukin says that she has found some products and rituals that have helped her avoid sleeping in. “I’ve found the Hatch Restore is essential for my sleep- allowing me not to hit snooze and gradually wake up feeling more rested and ready to take on the day. Setting my phone on a table away from my bed was also a huge help for me, too

After my workout I’ll have a bigger breakfast, like an omelet with tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, and maybe some chicken or something. Making sure to get enough protein in is extremely important for me to this day. It keeps you full longer,” she dished to The Cut.

8. Her Goal Is Longevity

U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame Class of 2019 Induction CeremonyJamie Schwaberow/Getty Images

Nastia isn’t healthy just so she can look good. “The older I get, the more I realize it’s also about longevity. Yes, it’s about living in the moment, enjoying your life, but at the same time, think about your life 10, 20, 30 years from now. You want to be able to enjoy life with kids and play with them and be active with them and then hopefully one day grandkids! It’s important to think about those things, but not overly obsess about them,” she told The Cut. “I believe in being able to just live your life and be happy and comfortable with it, but be active and take care of your body because it’s the only body that you have. You’re not going to be able to replace it. It’s like my gold medal — you just can’t get another one. It’s kind of like your body: You have one chance with it, so try to treat it the best that you can.”

Mariana Morais is showing off her ab-fab figure – in a two-piece exercise set. In a new social media post, the fitness influencer flaunts her fantastic figure in a brown sports bra and leggings. “Self Progress & Development is not always linear. Sometimes we take steps back & that’s just a sign to course correct so we can leap forward. If 2024 wasn’t the year you expected, use it as an opportunity to learn, grow, & carry on. It’s you VS you - continue to try, focus on consistency > perfection & you will prevail 🤎 rooting for us all to strengthen our mind & bodies this year,” she captioned the series of Instagram snaps. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

Strength Training

Mariana relies on old-school strength training to keep her body toned. “Training till failure instead of reps + taking my ab routine up a notch by incorporating weighted exercises,” she wrote about one of her workout tactics. “I can feel my muscles being challenged and am in tune with my movements.” According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Prioritizing Digestion and Getting Blood Work Done

Other healthy habits? “Prioritizing digestion,” she writes in the same post. “Making sure I get enough fiber & starting off every morning with a juice cleanse. This has helped me feel so much better everyday.” She also gets regular blood work done. “So important to check your levels and know what’s going on in your body routinely! Don’t skip the doc apts, always better to be preventative.”

Hiking

Mariana enjoys hiking. “Elevation therapy,” she captioned a post from one of her fitness adventures. According to the National Parks Service, the physical benefits of hiking include:

  • Building stronger muscles and bones
  • Improving your sense of balance
  • Improving your heart health
  • Decreasing the risk of some respiratory issues

Pilates

Mariana does reformer Pilates. “POV: Stepping into the prettiest torture chamber,” she wrote across a video of herself at the studio. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Emsculpt NEO

Mariana recently got an aesthetic body treatment, Emsculpt NEO. “I’ve heard all the rage about the benefits to spot reducing fat & toning muscle so I had to give it a try to target those pesky lower abs. It was a 10/10 & a great addition to my workout routine,” she wrote.

She’s Consistent

Last year, Culpo was preparing for her wedding. She told E! News that she made sure to be consistent with her wellness in order to prepare. “Really trying to dial in [on] what I eat, how I workout, the workouts that I do. Trying to get them in consistently because you only get married once and I want to feel my best. But this past season it was just hard being so far away from my normal routine and where I typically live."

She Keeps Her Skin Healthy While Traveling

Culpo has amazing skin, and she makes sure to take care of it, even while traveling. “I don't wear any makeup when traveling," she says to Travel + Leisure. "That's one rule because I do feel like you will have a higher chance of breaking out if you are wearing a full face of makeup. A few things I always have with me is some sort of a spray. I love Dr. Barbara Sturm or Caudalie or La Mer. I also absolutely love traveling with a makeup wipe, the Neutrogena wipes are great. Something to just take off the sweat you build up.”

She Keeps Her Skincare Simple

Culpo shared her skincare routines with Byrdie. She says that she keeps her morning and night routine simple. “I am always trying out new products, so what I gravitate toward is often changing. At night, I usually use an oil and a serum. Right now, I love the Clarins Double Serum. In the morning, I use a Vitamin C serum and an SPF, and, typically, I just rinse my skin with warm water instead of using a cleanser. It is something I swear by—it allows for the oils on my skin from sleeping to absorb naturally.”

She Uses Products With Vitamins

Culpo shared some of her favorite skincare products with Byrdie. She says that she uses ones that have vitamins in them. “I have noticed a huge difference in my skin with vitamin C and E. I love the Good Janes H2OMyGod Moisturizer—it's sort of an all-in-one moisturizer that has vitamin C and collagen peptides. As for vitamin E, I actually just purchase the oil from the drugstore. It is super cheap and great to put on any red marks I may get from an occasional breakout. The healing process is so much quicker when I am using Vitamin E oil.”

She Packs Healthy Snacks

Culpo makes sure to eat healthy. She shared some of the snacks she packs with her with Travel + Leisure. "I love the Kind bars. I love any sort of nuts, to be honest with you. They are a go-to snack for me. I would say Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% and some almonds would be perfect! Also, electrolytes to stay hydrated or some sort of collagen beauty powder or something."

Abigail explains being accountable for what she eats is crucial. While it’s not “rocket science,” she does use the MyFitnessPal app to track her eating. “I’m the type of person who likes to eat what I want. The app can help anyone do that—you can still eat great food, you just eat less of it,” she added New Beauty.

Abigail is a fan of Pilates. “Group workout classes are so big right now, but I always get nervous around other people in settings like that. I have to go at my own pace without a bunch of distractions so, for me, Pilates with a one-on-one instructor works best. It’s not cheap, but then you also aren’t tempted to skip,” she said She added to Men’s Fitness via Muscle & Fitness that the workout “keeps you long and lean” — and the Mayo Clinic agrees. They say it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, relief from stress and back pain, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

“I love green juices and smoothies. Sometimes I’ll put some protein powder in the morning—I feel like the mix of vegetables, and vitamins and stuff that’s in them, really gives me a lot of energy in the morning. I love BBQ food—my ultimate cheat is a pulled pork sandwich, sweet potato fries, and macaroni and cheese from this great place in LA,” she told Men’s Fitness.

Strength Training

Ratchford also lifts weights. “Initially, I made the mistake that a lot of girls do and I was only doing cardio. I just really didn’t see too much change in my body. I’ve been listening to my girlfriends who are in great shape and they say you have to do weight training, you have to go in and do squats. That’s my new thing—I’ve been doing some resistance training, circuit training,” she told Men’s Fitness. The Mayo Clinic explains that strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

Develop strong bones

Manage your weight

Enhance your quality of life

Manage chronic conditions

Sharpen your thinking skills
