Here's How Adele Lost 100 Pounds

Trust Adele to bring a crowd to its feet—or move them to tears. The jazz and soul singer/songwriter from London is truly spectacular. Her 16 GRAMMYs, one Academy Award, and 12 BRIT Awards speak for themselves. She's sold more than 120 million records around the world and just wrapped up her residency in Las Vegas, where she performed 100 shows. And that's not all of her accomplishments! Adele lost an astounding 100 pounds in 2020 with the help of her trainer, and she looks absolutely stunning. Here's how and why the superstar did it.
Working Out Became Adele's "Me Time" and an Excellent Anxiety-Reliever
The shining star began her wellness journey in 2020. Her weight loss didn't happen overnight; it spanned over two years.
Adele wanted to work out so she felt better, both mentally and physically. "It was because of my anxiety. Working out, I would just feel better," the singer shared with British Vogue.
Adele also told Oprah Winfrey in 2021, "I had the most terrifying anxiety attacks after I left my marriage. They paralyzed me completely and made me so confused because I wouldn't be able to have any control over my body, but I was aware of that happening because it was kind of still very much there while my whole body was just like, on another planet it felt like."
For this very reason, workouts became a form of "me time" for the singer.
In an interview with Vogue, Adele revealed that exercise helped alleviate her anxiety. "It was never about losing weight," she told the outlet. "I thought, If I can make my body physically strong, and I can feel that and see that, then maybe one day I can make my emotions and my mind physically strong."

She Kept Her Journey Under-Wraps
Although she has since shared how she accomplished her weight loss, Adele did not document every detail along the way.
"People are shocked because I didn't share my 'journey.' They're used to people documenting everything on Instagram, and most people in my position would get a big deal with a diet brand," she shared with British Vogue. "I couldn't give a flying f**k. I did it for myself and not anyone else. So why would I ever share it? I don't find it fascinating. It's my body."

She Worked Out up to Three Times a Day
For weight loss, the singer worked hard with trainers. She split her workouts into a few routines each day; her fitness regimen consisted of lifting weights in the morning, boxing or hiking in the afternoon, and performing cardio at night, according to British Vogue.
She Performed Strength Training
Strength training for Adele was to build strength—both mentally and physically, and the method really seems to be her passion. Why? At the top of her performance, it made her feel like she "could've been in the Olympics," Adele revealed during her Oprah Winfrey interview.
"On a deadlift, we were getting up to 160, 170 [pounds]," Adele added. "I love it. But it started out at 10 pounds."
One of Adele's trainers, Gregg Miele, explained to Vogue, "She got really turned on to movement, and especially strength training. So turned on that she started doing double sessions."

She Didn't Follow a Specific Diet
As far as nutrition's concerned, Adele did not seem to follow a specific diet. According to British Vogue, when asked, Adele responded, "Ain't done that. No intermittent fasting. Nothing. If anything I eat more than I used to because I work out so hard."
And she does treat herself. "My ideal meal, my death row meal, my last meal, would be a McChicken Nugget with a Big Mac and then fries," she shared in a video interview with British Vogue. "That's my three-course. I eat it at least once a week."

She Stayed Dedicated
One important takeaway from Adele's weight-loss journey is that she's incredibly happy with her dedication along the way.
The singer told The Face, "I'm definitely really happy now. But it's not because of my weight, it's because of the dedication I gave to my brain with therapy and stuff like that, and a lot of crying. Maybe that's a saying I made up: I used to cry but now I sweat. It really did save me."
