Janvi Kapoor is doing Pilates with Sara Ali Khan. In a new social media post the actress hits the gym with her pal, breaking a sweat in a two-piece workout ensemble. “No excuses, no abuses,” he friends wrote about the Instagram Stories image. How does Kapoor, 27, approach health and wellness? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

1. Pilates

In her post, Janhvi does a pilates workout with Sara. She told iDiva it is her favorite workout. “I guess I have made it pretty evident on my social media handles,” she said, adding that she likes that it stretches muscles and strengthens the core. “I think everyone should try doing that,” she added. Why is pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic there are lots of benefits to the workout, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, relief from stress and back pain, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

2. Hydration

Hydration is a priority for Janhvi. According to Times of India, she starts her day with a few glasses of water, with the intention that it will help flush the toxins from her body. The Mayo Clinic recommends this minimum daily intake of water:

  • Women — 11.5 cups
  • Men — 15.5 cups

“By consuming the minimum recommendation of water, you’re helping your body function better and improving your overall health. Read tips and a recipe if you have difficulty drinking enough water daily,” they say.

3. Cardio After Weight Training

Janhvi told iDiva that she does cardio after weight training. “If we do it in the beginning, it uses up much of our energy source for the remaining exercises and fatigues the muscles before the most strenuous activities,” she said.

4. Healthy Diet

“I make sure to have a balanced diet as it keeps me fit and at the same time makes me feel energised and full. My diet includes mostly fruits and vegetables and I try to avoid junk food. I start my day with a glass of fresh juice and toast. On certain days, I also like to fix a quick smoothie for myself. Then for lunch, I prefer homemade food like lentils and brown rice. And finally, for dinner, I opt to eat my meal at least 3 hours before going to bed and it usually consists of vegetable soups, dal or boiled veggies,” Janhvi told Indian Express about how she eats.

5. Lighter Exercises on Off Days

Kapor:AliSara Ali khan/Instagram

Instead of skipping workouts when she doesn’t feel like hitting the gym, the star opts for lighter workouts like “jogging, swimming, and simple yoga poses. It is a motivation for me because I know at the end of it all, I feel super energized post workout.”

Sara Tendulkar is at the gym – in her workout gear. In a new social media post the Indian actress shows off her amazing figure in a two-piece exercise set post sweat session. “Caught me in my natural habitat🤸🏻♀️🏋🏻♀️✨,” she captioned the series of Instagram snaps. “Theres a special glow in your beauty,” commented one of her followers. “Cutest,” added another. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

Strength Training

Sara rises and exercises. “I usually start my day pretty early. I like to begin with a workout,” she told Vogue. Her workout of choice? “I do weight training.” According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Pilates

She also enjoys Pilates “on alternate days,” she says.

Running

Sara is a fan of cardio at night. “In the evening, when I feel tired or wound up, I run on the treadmill for about 30–45 minutes,” she says. According to the Mayo Clinic, running is great for cardiovascular health, muscle building, and weight loss. “For every mile run, the average person will burn approximately 100 calories,” they say.

Diet for PCOS

Sara battles PCOS so has to eat accordingly. “I’m careful about what I put into my body. I try to avoid dairy because I have noticed that if I have a little too much dairy or sugar, my skin acts up. I had PCOS, and growing up, I had a lot of acne and tried so many things, from acids to retinol to lasers. But what helped me was tackling the root of the problem. I had to change my lifestyle—do a lot of weight training and eat a protein-rich diet. That has really helped me deal with my breakouts and prevent new ones,” she says.

Hydration

Another tactic for her PCOS and overall health? “And of course, staying hydrated,” she said. According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is important for a variety of reasons. Water helps get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.

1. This is How She Got Into Fitness

“For me, it all started in New York. I weighed 96kg and had a year to go before I graduated. The transition from pizza to salad and from lethargy to cardio is how I kickstarted my fitness journey. I simply started eating healthy and began working out when in New York. There were so many different types of classes in that city, from functional training to boxing to cycling. But because I was so overweight at the start, [my routine] was more about cardio-heavy workouts like walking, cycling and hitting the treadmill—so that I could lose the weight before entering the intermediate forms of exercise,” she told Vogue.

2. Sara Ali Khan Has This Workout Trick

sara-ali-khan-bathing-suitSara Ali Khan/Instagram

“The main thing for me is to get any form of workout at least six times a week,” she has said. “I recently discovered that on YouTube you can change the playback speed of songs. So now I can actually work out to pretty much any song depending on the pace of it. I can always make it 1.25, 1.5 or two times faster than the original track, so that makes it a lot easier,” Sara Ali Khan told Vogue.

3. She Does Vinyasa Yoga

Sara Ali Khan enjoys Vinyasa yoga. “The potential health benefits of yoga include:

  • Stress reduction. A number of studies have shown that yoga may help reduce stress and anxiety. It can also enhance your mood and overall sense of well-being.
  • Improved fitness. Practicing yoga may lead to improved balance, flexibility, range of motion and strength.
  • Management of chronic conditions. Yoga can help reduce risk factors for chronic diseases, such as heart disease and high blood pressure. Yoga might also help alleviate chronic conditions, such as depression, pain, anxiety and insomnia,” says the Mayo Clinic.

4. She Does Pilates

INDIA-ENTERTAINMENT-CINEMA-BOLLYWOODSUJIT JAISWAL/AFP via Getty Images

“Pilates-based exercises performed along with standard exercise programs were more effective for improving balance and quality of life than standard exercise programs alone,” write the authors of one study. “Pilates mat exercises contributed to increase in the strength and endurance of core muscles in post delivered women and even improve the fitness of women by improvement in cardiorespiratory fitness and decrease in the girth measurements,” says another study.

5. She Has Had PCOS

INDIA-ENTERTAINMENT-CINEMA-BOLLYWOOD-IIFASUJIT JAISWAL/AFP via Getty Images

Sara Ali Khan has talked about having PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) on Koffee With Karan. “I was 96 kgs. Actually, I had PCOS. I still do. And, because of that, I think I put on the amount of weight that I did. Because of that, there was also a hormone problem.” Other celebrities—from Leah Michele to Victoria Beckham—have had PCOS, and so has celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels. “PCOS – short for polycystic ovarian syndrome is a health condition that affects 1 in 10 women. Literally, it's the development of small fluid filled sacs or ‘cysts’ in the ovaries and it’s caused by a hormone imbalance. Too much androgenic hormones (testosterone, DHEA) and not enough estrogen. PCOS is also linked to insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes,” she once wrote. “Therefore, in my opinion, when it comes to PCOS the key is to look for the reasons your hormones are out of whack in the first place and address that! The top reasons are as follows –" bad "food and way too much of it. Not enough exercise.”

1. Kettlebell Swings

Sara.Ali.Khan.3Sara Ali Khan/Instagram

Overall, Sara is committed to fitness. “I like to change things up, but ensure that I work out for an hour and a half every single day—except on Sunday because that's my day to chill,” she said, per Vogue. One of her go-to exercises is the kettlebell swing, “A power exercise for the glutes, increases strength,” explains Philadelphia-based trainer Kendra Gamble of HIT Fitness.

2. Kettlebell Squats

Sara.Ali.Khan.1Sara Ali Khan/Instagram

Squatting is a great exercise for your lower body and core. “Kettlebell squats are unique as the weight can be positioned away from your body in front of you, meaning your back also has to fire or to one side (unilaterally), requiring cross stabilization,” explains USA Iron, a company that makes kettlebells. “Every time you squat, you use hundreds upon hundreds of big and small muscles, building your strength, losing fat and gaining confidence.” Squats in general are a great move to add to your routine with a “multitude of benefits” says Gamble. They help “increase strength, size and power of quads (front part of legs), glutes (butt), hamstrings (back of legs), calves, adductors (inner thighs), tendons and ligaments, and lowers your chances of knee and ankle injuries.”

3. TRX Push Ups and Row

Sara.Ali.Khan.2Sara Ali Khan/Instagram

Sara also uses the TRX and does push ups and rows. Polish fitness trainer Anna Lewandowska explained the benefits of “TRX strap training,” in a post. “TRX is a functional training created for US special forces. Soldiers stationed at sea did not have access to gyms and specialized training tools. Exercises with bands served the purpose of taking care of fitness and endurance in a small space and without the use of additional equipment. Because of its simplicity and surprising effectiveness, TRX quickly gained worldwide recognition.TRX is also used in physiotherapy offices, especially during rehabilitation after orthopedic injuries and surgeries.” Gamble explains TRX rows are good for building strength in your back and arms and good for beginners to learn how to pull their own body weight, while doing a pushup with the TRX works the chest, anterior delt (front part of shoulder) and triceps, and is a “excellent variation for those who can’t do a normal push up off the ground and allows them to ease into push ups.”

4. Elliptical and Bike

Sara.Ali.Khan.4Sara Ali Khan/Instagram

Sara also infuses cardio into her workout. Two of her favorites are the elliptical machine and cycling on a stationary bike. The Cleveland Clinic explains that biking, a low-impact aerobic exercise, is great for building muscle, improving strength and flexibility, and improving balance. It can also boost mental health and help other health conditions, including arthritis.

5. Mixing Up Her Workouts

Sara’s overall approach to exercise is “pretty eclectic,” she told Vogue. “It's a combination of functional training, Pilates, boxing and cardio. I like to change things up, but ensure that I work out for an hour and a half every single day—except on Sunday, because that's my day to chill. It really depends. If I've had a hard week [physically], then a Vinyasa yoga or Pilates class is a great workout. But if it's been a stressful and emotionally taxing week, there's nothing better than a 45-minute session of boxing to get the adrenalin pumping in my body.”

Water Skiing

Sydney has been water skiing since she was a toddler. “The moment I could walk, my mom put me on what’s called a U-board to learn how to ski,” she told Women’s Health. “I remember that whenever we would go by the docks of my grandma’s or my cousin’s house, I’d wave. I felt so cool because I could take off one hand. That’s my earliest memory of skiing, but I’ve been doing it as long as I can remember. It’s my favorite.” How does it help her achieve her amazing body? “It’s a lot of upper body strength, it’s balance, it’s core, it’s legs—you get tired really fast,” she says. “I see such a change in my body after an entire summer of [skiing]. My arms are stronger, more sculpted. My abs are rock solid. But I never look at it as a workout because it is so much fun,” she said.

Morning Workouts

Sydney mixes up her exercise routine, but likes to get workouts over with early in the day. “I like to work out in the morning, so I’ll either go for a run or I’ll go to Solidcore,” says Sydney. The high-intensity, low-impact Pilates-inspired workout “makes me feel so strong, but also elongated,” Sydney said about her sweat sessions. “I feel so good afterwards.”

Self-Care

Sydney engages in self-care activities. “I love to paint, and I love to read,” she said. “Those are the activities that are just for me.” One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years than those who weren't readers or who read periodicals.

She Walks and Hikes

One of the ways she treats her anxiety is by spending time outdoors with her dog, Tank. She takes him on walks or hikes. Going for a daily walk can be a game changer, especially at a brisk speed. One study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day reduced the risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia, and death, compared with walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.

Mariana does reformer Pilates. “POV: Stepping into the prettiest torture chamber,” she wrote across a video of herself at the studio. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Emsculpt NEO

Mariana recently got an aesthetic body treatment, Emsculpt NEO. “I’ve heard all the rage about the benefits to spot reducing fat & toning muscle so I had to give it a try to target those pesky lower abs. It was a 10/10 & a great addition to my workout routine,” she wrote.
