Jelly Roll is one of the biggest country stars today. The "Save Me" singer has also been open about his inspiring weight-loss journey, which resulted in him losing 120 pounds. Jelly Roll made sure to incorporate exercise into his daily routine while on his recent Beautifully Broken tour. He's been very diligent; in fact, last year, he trained for and ran the 2 Bears 5K in Los Angeles. Here are the secrets behind Jelly Roll's 120-pound weight-loss transformation.

Jelly Roll Trained For A 5K

In May 2024, Jelly Roll participated in the 2 Bears 5K, hosted by Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura. Jelly revealed to Entertainment Tonight that the training process was a major accomplishment. "I couldn't walk a mile when I started trying to do this back in January. So the fact that we got 3-point-whatever it was, got it down, I felt really, really good about it," he said.

In a more recent Instagram video from February, Jelly recorded himself on a hike, saying, "We got up that hill today … I'm tired, I'm frustrated, I'm sore … I hope you all are getting out moving today, it's worth the sacrifice; it's worth the pain." He captioned the clip, "If you want to join me in this journey to getting healthy, we announced something big on YouTube today explaining just how to do it. 5K on May 4th in Tampa baby LFG."

The singer officially announced he's training for his second 5K.

He Played Basketball and Boxed

While on tour, Jelly made sure to incorporate exercise into his hectic schedule. One of his sports of choice? Basketball.

Jelly shared an Instagram video of himself playing ball with the boys. He captioned the post, "We got to go hang out with the boys at Harris County Juvenile and played a little ball. Turns out we've got some practice to do because they put a whoopin on us. Thanks for having us y'all!"

In another video, Jelly's nutritionist, Ian Larios, gave a "halfway point" tour update when the country singer exceeded his 100-pound weight-loss. "Jelly's been crushing it," Larios said in the clip. He revealed Jelly played basketball, walked the arenas, and boxed while on tour.

He Hiked

Jelly also enjoys hiking. The country singer told E! News, "I hiked a mountain the other day. Camelback. There is no way that would have been possible beforehand, so it's great to see that progress and we still are going."

Hiking provides many mental and physical health benefits. According to Harvard Health Publishing, hiking is an excellent calorie burner, and you can increase the intensity by incorporating various terrains and inclines. In addition, research shows that going on a hike can decrease stress and improve your mood.

He Changed His Relationship With Food

Diet was another integral part of Jelly's major weight-loss milestone. He told PEOPLE that he had to adjust his relationship with food: "Nobody in my house ever had [a healthy relationship with food], so that was the hard part, really fighting that demon at first and getting into that discipline and that commitment. But once you get into that discipline and commitment, it's like an avalanche. Once that little snowball started rolling, it was on its way."

He Enjoyed French Fries—Fried In Bone Broth

Larios was a huge help in improving Jelly's diet on tour. The nutritionist revealed that he prepared the singer's favorite indulgences with a much healthier spin.

One tasty switch-up was French fries. Larios fried them in an air fryer with bone broth rather than oil. He noted this version "ups the protein in it, but it also makes it have that nice crunch to it, because we air fry it." Larios added, "So it tricks your brain into thinking that this is, like, that nice greasy Nashville deep-fried hot chicken. He's gonna feel like he's eating at home. It's healthy. It's air-fried. It's full of protein, and it helps him stay on track." (Okay, now we're getting hungry!)
