Jennifer Garner is an extremely successful actress. She is currently starring as Elektra in the movie Deadpool & Wolverine. Garner shared her training process for the role on Instagram. She captioned the post, “As this impossible dream became reality, my bestie and OG stunt double @shaunaduggins and I amped up our training, led by @bethjnicely at @thelimitfit: 1x/day, plus whatever homework she assigned for a second workout. Boxing 3x/ week with @flvcothefuture from @matchroomxchurchillgym. And lots and lots of @onepeloton’s @becsgentry. 💃🏻🏋🏻‍♀️🥊🏃🏻‍♀️🏊🏻‍♀️ We had #SuperHeroSummer over here, twirling sais in the backyard and laughing at our sore old bodies.” How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Jennifer Garner stays in shape and the photos that prove they work.

1. She Does Planks

In her Instagram video, Garner is seen doing planks on a bosu ball. Allina Health states that planks are a great workout. “The plank is a simple, effective bodyweight exercise that strengthens your core, as well as muscles in your upper and lower body. Core muscles, which include your back and abdomen, help you maintain posture and balance as you stand, sit and move throughout the day.”

2. She Does Box Jumps

J Garner.1Jennifer Garner/Instagram

Garner is also seen doing box jumps in her Instagram video. Joho Fitness states that box jumps are a great workout. “In box jump training you work all of your leg muscles and strengthen your core using your own body weight. Box jumps boost your muscular endurance and muscular strength, while also getting some cardiovascular work involved.”

3. She Uses A Trampoline

J Garner.2Jennifer Garner/Instagram

Garner is also seen using a trampoline to workout in her Instagram video. The Cleveland Clinic reports that using a trampoline has a lot of benefits. “Rebounding (the act of jumping on a rebounder) is a full-body workout that impacts — you guessed it — your entire body. Unlike targeted training, jumping requires the use of multiple muscles. All of that up-and-down works everything from your abs and glutes to your leg and back muscles, building a strong core and beyond.”

4. She Swims

J Garner.3Jennifer Garner/Instagram

Garner is seen doing laps in a pool in her Instagram video. The Mayo Clinic reports that swimming has a lot of benefits. “Swimming is often touted as a great workout for all ages, offering benefits not only for the body, but also for the mind. As a form of exercise, swimming keeps your heart rate up and builds muscle strength. It also can be a great form of stress relief.”

5. She Embraces Her Natural Beauty

Garner is all about embracing her natural looks. “I just want to look like myself,” she told WhoWhatWear. “I can't say that I'm particularly gutsy with my beauty choices either in what I wear—clearly [laughs]—or in makeup and hair. I mean, I did chop all my hair off. In that way, I just wanted something fresh and different, and that felt really, really good. But for the most part, I want to look like the best version of me that I can. So I'd rather take care of my skin and give my hair every bit of advantage it can. Really, for everything, it's just about moisture. That's true of your hair. It's true of your skin. It's really just how much moisture can you pack in and repair the cells you have.”

Celebrities are famous for losing and gaining weight in the public eye. However, sometimes there is professional ambition behind their body transformations. Christian Bale, Tom Hanks, and Anne Hathaway’s drastic transformations for movie roles are some of the most talked about. However, there are other body makeovers that have gotten less, but equally deserved, recognition. Here are 7 stars who have transformed their bodies for roles.

1. Halle Berry: Bruised

95th Annual Academy Awards - ArrivalsJeff Kravitz/FilmMagic

Sure, Halle Berry has been known as one of the fittest female celebrities for almost her entire career. But the Academy Award winner was determined to get “ripped abs” for her MMA movie Bruised. She went viral when she shared an Instagram snap of her six-pack with fans. According to the 56-year-old, she worked out a whopping four hours a day, doing high-intensity MMA-style cardio workouts, strength training, plyometric training, running, and boxing, and did intermittent fasting while on the keto diet.

2. Kate Bosworth: Blue Crush

Kate Bosworth, a former model, had a lean figure when she booked her career-changing role in the 2002 film Blue Crush. However, she needed to transform her body into a surfer girl. "That was the most intense physical experience I have ever gone through," she said. She has since revealed that she spent seven hours a day training for the part, doing high-intensity cross-training. "[It] took four hours of surfing and an hour of weight training and an hour of either running the beach or running under the water with a rock."

3. Jennifer Lopez: Hustlers

Jennifer Lopez upped her already intense training game for her role as a stripper in Hustlers. "It's rough on your body," Jennifer, who installed a pole in her home said, about training for the film in a YouTube vlog. She worked with choreographer and instructor Johanna Sapakie for six weeks, claiming it was one of the toughest training periods of her life.

4. Gal Gadot: Wonder Woman

Not just anyone can play Wonder Woman, but Gal Gadot understood the assignment. The Israeli actress trained for six hours a day for six months to get in superhero shape for the role of her lifetime. "I did two hours gym work, two hours fight choreography, and two hours horseback riding. Which is super hard," she said during an appearance on Live With Kelly And Ryan.

5. Blake Lively: The Shallows

While Blake Lively is known for having one of the best bodies in Hollywood and normally wouldn’t have to do much to get in shape for a role, even one that required her to be in a bikini nonstop, the timing of The Shallows was a little bit different: Filming started just months after welcoming her daughter, James. "I was working out 13 hours a day because shooting was working out," she told Entertainment Tonight. "It was neat to be able to do that, and it was neat to have that challenge after having a baby, because you think your body is so different—you think no matter what, it's never [going to be] totally be the same. I thought, 'That's really encouraging.'" She trained with Don Saladino and made some serious dietary changing, eliminating soy and gluten. "It's all in moderation," she explained People. "You just have a balance of protein, carbs, and vegetables. And it wasn't the worst. Like, I was eating rice and sushi."

6. Hilary Swank: Million Dollar Baby

Hilary Swank worked hard to gain 19 pounds of muscle and transform into a boxer for Million Dollar Baby. According to the star, she spent 2.5 hours of boxing and 2 hours of weightlifting every day, six days a week for three months. She would also have to wake up in the middle of the night to consume protein in order to sustain the workouts. "There was a point where I could only eat 50 grams of carbs a day," she said. "Just to give you an example of that, an 8-ounce glass of apple juice has 30 grams of carbs in it." The hard work paid off: She won an Oscar for the role.

7. Brie Larson: Captain Marvel

Brie Larson got famously fit to play Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel. She trained with Jason Walsh, who put her through rigorous workouts lifting heavy weights, rock climbing, doing mixed martial arts, and boxing. She even got so strong she was able to push a "5,000 [pound] Jeep (with a full tank of gas)" for 60 seconds.

"Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny" UK Premiere – ArrivalsKarwai Tang/Getty Images

In 2019, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) opened up about working as an actress and the pressure she deals with in an interview with ELLE. “The pressure is real," she said. "But at the same time, even you saying that – you, the most extraordinary, perfect human being on the planet, inside and out – is reassuring, because it shows that it’s a mental state most women find themselves in, rather than actually being something that’s important. I feel like when I’m on set working with people I love, with my head in the work, all those things fall away. I stop caring about any of that shit."

2. Zoe Saldana

"The Adam Project" New York PremiereJamie McCarthy/Getty Images

Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy III) shared some of her skincare and wellness secrets with Byrdie. She says that she gets creative with things. “Growing up in the Dominican Republic, I learned to be very organic with my beauty routine,” Saldana said. “Cooking products are not just for cooking; you can actually use them for beauty, for wellness. If you live in the islands, you get a coconut, and you use every part of that coconut. You drink the water, you make food with the meat, you can squeeze it and make coconut milk, and that milk you can put on your skin, on your hair. And then you can make coconut oil and coconut butter. I grew up using the environment to its full potential. And that just made me feel really, what’s the word, grounded. Because I was using everything around me in so many different ways, not just conventionally.”

3. Chris Pratt

In 2019, Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy III) was about to start filming and was making sure to get in shape. He shared his secrets on his Instagram story. "I am about to start filming a new film, 'Ghost Draft,' I have some weight to trim off. I am already down 12 pounds, which is pretty good and it happened pretty quickly. Here's what I did: Water. If you're like me and wondering how you can shed some weight, water. Start there."

4. Halle Bailey

World Premiere Of Disney's "The Little Mermaid" - ArrivalsAxelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic

Halle Bailey did a lot of her own stunts in The Little Mermaid. She opened up about the process on an interview on Live with Kelly and Mark. “When I was filming, I was in the best shape of my life,” she said. “It was like, intense, every day, 4 a.m. gym, then stunts, then get in the water; it was, like, a lot.”

5. Michelle Rodriguez

While prepping for her role in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Michelle Rodriguez (Fast X) shared how she got in shape at last year’s Comic-Con. “Lots of working out, lots of protein shakes, lots of gas. Lots of push-ups, lots of sit ups. There’s lots of lifting weights. During COVID, you could get lots of frustration so I kind of got [producer] Jeremy [Latcham] to hook me up with a punching bag by my trailer. That helped a lot with the stressful days. I had a blast training.”

6. Vin Diesel

9. Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence (No Hard Feelings) worked with Kurt Foreman to prep for her role in Red Sparrow. Foreman opened up about the process to Body + Soul. “What we started off with was her posture – how she walked, how she stood, and I knew that what we needed from her for all the visual effects to work and for all the close up shots to work, was I needed her upper body to look as polished as possible, and I needed it to match with what the dance double was doing.”

10. Anthony Ramos

Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2023 - BackstagePhillip Faraone/Getty Images

Anthony Ramos (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) does a lot of core workouts to stay in shape. He shared some of his favorites in a video for Men’s Health. In it, he is seen doing exercises like bear plank to planks, bear planks to a push-up, back extensions with rotations, and skin the cat exercises. The Mayo Clinic states that having a strong core is important. “Strong core muscles make it easier to do many activities. When your core muscles are strong, it's easier to swing a golf club, get a glass from the top shelf and bend down to tie your shoes. Strong core muscles help athletes, such as runners. That's because weak core muscles can lead to more fatigue, less endurance and injuries.”

5. Tessa Thompson

Tessa Thomspon talked about getting in shape to play Valkyrie to Comic Book Resources. “I gained about 15 pounds of muscle mass, which yeah, it was a lot for me,” she said. Thompson also said that she wanted to do this to change how people perceive women in movies. “I like sort of bucking this conventional idea of a woman is beautiful or sexy if she’s sort of thin. She’s felt, but you can’t really see her strength. I like the idea that she can just be ripped, like Valkyrie is in the comics. I’ve also cut out gluten, dairy and fish for the most part, and I’ve felt so much healthier and better since. Our showrunner is an Asian-American woman, and our two lead females are Asian-American women. 90% of stunts and the ass-kicking and the saving on the show are from the women. I don’t think it’s talked about enough! We’ve quietly been breaking new ground.”

EE BAFTA Film Awards 2023 – Red Carpet ArrivalsJoe Maher/Getty Images

Jessica Henwick opened up about her acting career and her wishes for the industry in an interview with Glamour. “It's not important to me that I become anything,” she admits. “But it's important to me that we keep pushing forward and it's shocking to me that I was the first, considering it was 2009 and how long British television has existed. When I was growing up, I would've loved to have seen someone who looked like me on screen. All I got was stunning English roses. So I absorbed that and thought that was the ideal way to look. When I was a kid, I totally wanted to look like that. I was like, why can't I be blonde and have really pink cheeks and have curly hair? It would've been healthy for my self-image if I had been able to look at someone else and think, I could also look like me. So it’s definitely important. But it’s also just more interesting. I'm bored of seeing the same story told over and over again. I want to hear from new creators, something that I've never seen before. There are woman rejuvenating the industry by sharing their own stories: Michaela Coel, Phoebe Waller Bridge, Brit Marling. These are the women who inspire me and, uh, who I would love to be like one day when I grow up.”

Carrie-Anne Moss talked to The New York Times about reprising her role in The Matrix. “It was important to me that I let go of any construct in my mind that I needed to look like I did when I was 30,” she said. “I find that thinking makes desperation as a woman, and I didn’t want any desperation. I knew I wanted to look good, but I didn’t want to do a juice cleanse, I didn’t want to do all these extreme things. I laugh because at times I would just feel so cool, I got this.”

19. Lupita Nyong’o

While filming Black Panther, Lupita Nyong’o and her cast members ate healthy on set. Marvel hired personal chef, Brandi Patten, for the cast. “It was only once we wrapped that I realized I was on a sugar-free diet,” Nyong’o tells ESSENCE. “We could have fruit, which is a good sugar, but no fructose or refined sugar. But we could have carbs, which are good when you work out as much as we did, and we weren’t eating less. We actually had to eat smaller meals every three hours. I never got bored. I’ve never worked on a project like this where there is a diet and a workout plan.”

20. Zoe Saldana

And I had a lot of support from the writers and from the director, Ben Bray, who I really collaborated well with. But after that, I don't remember exactly how many months it was we had to wait until it was in the world. It happens often as an actor, where when you're doing something it's very different than what you end up seeing. And I'm particularly hard on myself. Dani Elle Speegle isn’t just strong—she’s unstoppable. The elite CrossFit athlete and social media sensation has built a massive following by sharing her intense training sessions and inspiring fitness moments. Recently, she posted a series of weightlifting photos on Instagram, proving once again why she’s a powerhouse in the gym.

“Just a girl and her barbell,” she captioned the post, letting her strength do the talking. From lifting heavy to outdoor adventures, here’s how Speegle stays in peak condition.

She Lifts Weights

In her Instagram post, Speegle is seen lifting weights. According to ACE Fitness, doing this has a lot of benefits. “Using heavy weights increases intramuscular coordination, the number of type II motor units and the amount of muscle fibers engaged within a specific muscle. Have you ever felt your muscles shaking while lifting heavy weights? This is because you are recruiting and activating the larger type II muscle fibers, which are only stimulated to work when a muscle is challenged with heavy resistance or working to fatigue.”

She Golfs

Speegle likes to golf to keep herself in shape. She shared a video of herself on the course in this Instagram post. According to Randa aerobic exercise. “Golf can help strength and balance, improve quality of life and provide aerobic exercise. On a regular 18-hole course, most players will walk between four and five miles, burning up to 2,000 calories.”

She's Into Jumping Rope

Speegle shared this video on Instagram of herself competing in Crossfit events. In it, she is seen jumping rope. According to The Cleveland Clinic, jumping rope has a lot of benefits. “Benefits of jump rope can help improve your coordination, get your heart rate going and help burn calories — and it’s an easy, affordable way to get some cardio in.”

She Hikes

Speegle likes to hike to keep herself in shape. She shared this photo on Instagram of herself hiking the Koko Head Summit. Speegle captioned the post, “Woke up and chose pain today. Every 45 min X 3 rounds: Koko head 💀💀💀 Then sat in my car and stared into the abyss while munching on Banan 🥲🥲🥲”

She Does Cold Plunges

Speegle makes sure to recover. One thing she likes to do is cold plunges. Speegle shared this video of herself jumping into a tub. According to The Mayo Clinic, these have a lot of benefits. “Research on cold-water immersion has found evidence that it helps reduce the degree of exercise-induced muscle damage that can occur after physically challenging activities. Less damage leads to less inflammation, which in turn reduces soreness and helps restore physical performance the next day. These benefits may be the result of rapid constriction of the blood vessels due to the cold water. The cold can trigger responses in your body, such as decreased metabolic activity, alterations in hormone production and blood flow, and activation of the immune system.”

Golfer Tvesa Malik in Two-Piece Workout Gear Shares "Awesome" Exercises

Discover how Tvesa Malik, SuperSport Ladies Championship winner, stays in peak shape with weightlifting, core work, and golf.

Golfer Tvesa Malik in Two-Piece Workout Gear Shares "Awesome" Exercises
Tvesa Malik / Instagram

Tvesa Malik isn’t just a pro golfer—she’s a powerhouse athlete dedicated to staying in peak shape. The SuperSport Ladies Championship winner knows that strength and endurance are just as important as skill on the course. That’s why she takes her fitness seriously, incorporating weightlifting, core work, and mobility exercises into her training.

Last year, Malik gave fans a look at her workout routine in an Instagram video, where she powered through hanging crunches, lunges, and weightlifting sessions. She captioned the post, “Got some major work to do before my next session,” proving that even elite athletes are always striving to improve. Here’s a closer look at how Malik keeps her body strong and ready for competition.

She Lifts Weights

Malik is seen doing a lot of weight lifting in her Instagram video. ACE Fitness says that this has a lot of benefits. “Lifting heavy weights elevates levels of anabolic hormones—specifically testosterone, growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1)—which are used to repair muscle fibers damaged during exercise. This helps the muscle fibers to become thicker and capable of generating higher levels of force.”

She Does Lunges

Malik is seen shifting into lunges in her Instagram video. ACE Fitness says that lunges are a form of unilateral training, and that makes them effective. “Unilateral training is a more effective way to build functional strength (than using both legs) because these types of movement mimic other everyday motions, like walking and climbing stairs — and not just to the working leg. Research suggests the strength gains to the nonworking side are about half of the strength gains of the working side.”

She Does Core Workouts

Malik is seen doing core workouts, like hanging crunches in her Instagram video. Core workouts are extremely important. The Mayo Clinic says, “While it takes aerobic activity to burn fat in your stomach, core exercises can strengthen and tone the underlying muscles. Strong core muscles make it easier to do many activities. When your core muscles are strong, it's easier to swing a golf club, get a glass from the top shelf and bend down to tie your shoes.”

She Does Pull-Ups

An upper body workout that Malik likes to do is pull-ups. She shared this video on Instagram of herself doing them at the gym. Malik captioned it, “Got some major work to do before my next session.” Asphalt Green says that pull-ups have a lot of benefits. “Pull-ups are a fantastic way to improve upper-body strength. This exercise primarily targets your back and biceps, but involves many stabilizing muscles in your core, arms, and shoulders. Depending on the way you grip the bar, you can even work your chest. Plus, you don’t need any fancy equipment to do a pull-up. Tree branches, scaffolding, and even door frames are all places people can do pull-ups.”

She Golfs

Golf is obviously one of the ways that Malik keeps herself in shape. Better Health says that the sport has a lot of benefits. “Golf can be good for your health and your heart. Walking an average course for a round of golf can be between five to seven kilometres. If you walk 18 holes three to five times a week, you’ll get an optimal amount of endurance exercise for your heart. If you pull your clubs or carry them, you’ll burn even more calories each round and benefit even more.”

Camila Guper is more than just a fitness influencer—she’s a motivation powerhouse. With 1.1 million Instagram followers, she inspires her audience with workout routines, wellness tips, and a disciplined approach to staying fit. Recently, she took to Instagram to share a glimpse of her latest gym session, including a stairclimber workout, a snapshot of her Apple Watch tracking her progress, and a post-workout mirror selfie in pink workout gear.

Her message? Consistency is key. “Don't underestimate the power of small, consistent actions! Every effort is worth it when you know where you want to go,” she captioned the post. From intense stair workouts to leg-sculpting exercises, here’s how Guper stays in top shape.

She Uses A Stairclimber

In her Instagram post, Guper is seen using the stairclimber. Stair workouts have a lot of health benefits. ACE Fitness says, “Improving metabolic health in terms of lower risks of heart problems and other complications, also by definition improves fitness. You can feel your heart working harder and the fire in your lungs when you ascend stairs. And that’s provoking important changes in your cardiorespiratory system that will make physical activities, like running and walking, feel easier.”

She’s Consistent

Guper makes sure to stay consistent with her workout routines. One way she does so is by staying disciplined. Guper talked about this in the caption of this Instagram post. “Good morning! May we always have the discipline to do what is good for us. Amen 💪🏽🙏🏽✨ 40 min stair + shoulder and chest workout today.”

She Does Lunges

Guper shared some of her favorite lower body workouts in this Instagram video. One thing she is seen doing is lunges. According to The Mayo Clinic, lunges have a lot of benefits. “The lunge is a body resistance exercise that works the leg muscles. Specifically, the lunge targets the quadriceps and the hamstring muscles in the thigh, the gluteal muscles in the buttock, and to a lesser extent, the lower leg muscles.”

She Does Leg Extensions

In the previous Instagram video, Guper is seen using the leg extension machine. Asphalt Green says that leg extensions have a lot of benefits. “These machines provide isolation exercises for your legs. This type of exercise works only one muscle or group of muscles, which means you can build up that part of your body quickly. If you want your thigh muscles to really stand out in those shorts you just bought, the leg extension machine is for you!”

She Spends Time Outside

Guper likes to spend time outside. She shared this set of photos on Instagram of herself enjoying a day by the pool with her dog. Guper captioned the post, “Good Morning! What book are you reading? 📖💚🐺🌮 I'm loving reading How to become super natural! I'm already sharing saying it's a must-read.”
