Kate Hudson is dueting with her brother, Oliver Hudson, in her workout clothes. In a new social media post, the makeup-free star shows off her amazing body in an exercise top while singing acapella with her bro. “Chopped My Salad 🥗 #siblingremix,” she captioned the Instagram post. How does the star approach diet, fitness, and self-care at 45? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

1. “Tuning In” to Her Body

Hudson maintains that “tuning in” to her body was a game changer. “If you’re tuned in and your body tells you, it really does speak to you,” she told Today. "One day, I tuned in and I was like ... I don’t feel strong, I feel long and I love my Pilates but as I get older... am I doing enough (strength) exercises?” According to clinical trials, consuming more protein than the recommended dietary allowance not only reduces body weight (BW), but also enhances body composition by decreasing fat mass while preserving fat-free mass (FFM) in both low-calorie and standard-calorie diets.

2. Strength Training

K.Hudson.2Kate Hudson/Instagram

Kate recently discussed how she has changed up her approach to fitness in her 40s. She is now working out with Brian Nguyen, who has her lifting weight. “When (Brian and I) started working together, one of the things I never did was strength training, that was something I never realized was a huge part missing," Hudson told Today. Some of their go-to exercises? Hip and glute bridges, planks, bodyweight squats, and lunges. According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

3. More Protein

Hudson also shifted her approach to diet. “Food is everything,” she says. "The food we eat is fuel for our body," she added. “We, especially women, should really be eating more protein, especially in the morning.”

4. Meal Tracking

K.Hudson.4Kate Hudson/Instagram

Hudson uses MyFitnessPal to track food. “Food is 80% of the challenge ... and tracking it, knowing it, understanding it, and having the knowledge is something I'm passionate about," she said. She revealed that while shooting Something Borrowed in 2011 she was on a raw food diet. "It was trendy at the time to eat raw, but I gained maybe 10 to 15 pounds and I didn't understand what was happening because I thought I was eating so healthy and I cut out meat," she said. "I started tracking, and (realized) I was eating about 3,000 calories of just nuts ... If I didn’t have access to understand (that), I would have never known," Hudson adds.

5. Support System

Kate emphasizes the importance of having support. “What’s really important is to have access to support … we can’t do it alone ... I guess some people can but for most of us like myself, I need a support system,” she explains.

1. She Loves Pilates

Hudson is open about her love of Pilates, and tells SELF, "Nothing, literally nothing, makes me feel like I'm back to my body more than Pilates. I'll travel, and I'll go for a run or I'll Spin. But when I go home and get on the reformer or the Cadillac, my body immediately goes back. I can see an instant shift."

2. She Works Out At Different Studios & At Home

Hudson has a lot of places where she likes to get her exercise in, including her house. She tells Harper’s Bazaar, “I mostly do it at my house. In London, I do this thing called Heartcore and it's amazing. They're bringing that to the states soon hopefully. And Circuit Works. So I'm all over the place really. Sometimes I'll just move around and dance around to kind of just sweat because I feel like I need to get things circulating. But I'm not hardcore about it.”

3. She’s A Believer in Alkaline and Indulgence

Woman,In,Jeans,Holding,Buddha,Bowl,With,Salad,,Baked,SweetShutterstock

Hudson says that her diet can be restrictive, but she also says that she believes in indulgence. Hudson tells Harper’s Bazaar that she mostly sticks to the Alkaline diet, and indulges occasionally. “I live by a rulebook of eating alkaline. And then I'll cheat when I want to, but I sort of make that my go-to unless I'm out at a great restaurant. I'm a bit of a foodie, so I can't cut out the things that I love, so I just make sure that on a daily basis I eat very alkaline. So no meat, no dairy, no gluten, I try to stay away from sugar. But then I could be at a movie theater and throw down on some popcorn and milk duds or at an Italian restaurant and I'll have my pasta. So I try not to make it about dieting, I try just to make alkaline my normal and then have fun.”

4. She Loves To Dance

Hudson has starred in musical and dancing roles like in the film Nine and the TV series Glee. So it’s no surprise that she loves to dance, and does so when she needs to relieve some stress. "Dancing is the thing for me," she says to SELF. "It just makes me feel so much better. You know how you see dancers always crying? It's like reconnecting with an old self." Hudson admits that she’ll have dance parties when she’s alone. "Sometimes I'll lock myself in a room and dance. I'll turn music on as loud as possible and just get weird!"

5. She Doesn’t Pressure Herself

Even with the struggles of growing up in the public eye and beauty standards, Hudson says that she doesn’t pressure herself to look a certain way. She tells Harper’s Bazaar, “I think it's just about taking it easy and not putting too much pressure on yourself.”

6. She Keeps A Health Journal

One of Hudson’s wellness secrets is keeping a journal. "When you jot things down, you can really see what's going on," Hudson says to SELF. "What are you eating? What are your food patterns? You can get clued in to the things that are going on with you."

1. She Prioritizes Her Health, Mind and Body

In her book Pretty Happy: Healthy Ways to Love Your Body, Kate promotes the importance of well-being. She understands life can get busy, especially seeing how her mother, Goldie Hawn, handled raising her, but it’s still so important to put your mental and physical health first. "I'm finally at a place in my life where if someone wants to know what I do to stay healthy, why not tell them?" she asks. "Why not put it out there?" She’s not gatekeeping her tricks and wants to promote a healthy lifestyle to other busy women

2. She Dances Her Way To A Slim Figure

"Dancing is the thing for me," she says. "It just makes me feel so much better." We got a little taste of her dancing skills on the show Glee when she guest starred as Cassandra, Rachel Berry's dance teacher in college. She loves to take classes in a more structured environment and sometimes just freestyle, being goofy on her own. Blasting music in the comfort of her own house. "Sometimes I'll lock myself in a room and dance. I'll turn music on as loud as possible and just get weird!" she says, laughing.

3. She’s Not Afraid To Switch It Up

She is constantly changing a lot in her life, and that includes her workouts. "Change is my constant,” she says. "I change my routine. I change my look. I change my mind," said Hudson. When it comes to her fitness routine, that’s the thing she likes to switch up the most. "I'll do Tracy Anderson, I'll do Body by Simone, I do everything," Hudson said. "Nothing, literally nothing, makes me feel like I'm back to my body more than pilates," she says. "I'll travel, and I'll go for a run or I'll spin, but when I go home and get on the reformer or the Cadillac, my body immediately goes back. I can see an instant shift."

4. She Does What's Best For Her Body

She really avoids fads and just does what works for her own individual body and what she enjoys doing. "I don't judge my practice, ever,” she says. She loves challenging her mind and body with transcendental meditation and Kundalini. "You could sit there and not think of your mantra for your whole practice, but you're still benefiting," she says. She's also a big believer in taking a day or two to yourself. "Throw that idea of 'I have to, I have to, I have to' out the window."

5. She’s Mindful and Makes an Effort to Eat Breakfast

Just like exercising, when it comes to Kate's eating, she tries not to obsess, but also to stay mindful. She aims to have five small meals each day, trying to pick mostly plant-based options. "I've pretty much cut meat out," she says. "I don't remember the last time I ate a steak." She sometimes has difficulty with her morning routine, not being much of a breakfast person but has heard that it’s important to eat something in the morning. "The hardest thing for me is eating right when I get up, because I don't like to. I'm not one of those people who wakes up hungry," she explains. "I wake up and I want coffee and even a green juice, but everybody says you've got to eat something, even if it's little. So that's sort of the hardest, but I realize that when I do, I eat less during the day or late at night."

Everyone's looking to how do you get motivated, how do you stay motivated?"

2. She Takes Supplements

Kate takes supplements from her INBLOOM line, which she founded on the belief that beauty starts from the inside out. “Really where it started for me was beauty. Magazines would always ask me, you know, 'What are your favorite beauty products? What do you do to keep your skin looking rested?'" she explained to InStyle. "My answer was always, ‘I know this is boring, but it's an inside out job.’"

3. She Exercises Nearly Every Day

Kate makes fitness a priority. "Now that Rani is getting a little bit older and her nap schedule is longer, I've been able to work out at least 30 minutes a day, maybe five times a week,” she told InStyle. “I make sure that I don't go a day without doing something for 30 minutes. I've been doing that since April and I've noticed enormous changes in my body."

Kate maintains variety with her workouts "I do everything. I have to switch it up, I get so bored," she told InStyle. "I've been loving the Obé app, they have 20-minute workouts that are really hard and if you do them with the proper form they're really effective. I love my yoga apps, like Glo, and I use Body by Simone and Tracy Anderson's apps too — there's nothing better than her abs workout. I love my Peloton. I love Pilates — that's always been my number one."

5. She Likes the Way Exercise Makes Her Feel

Kate’s focus when working out is feeling good. “I’ve always felt that wellness is about your quality of life,” she explained to Women's Health. “You need to know what makes you feel good. It’s about doing the things you love, eating the things you want to, exercising and not feeling like you need to [push yourself] for two hours in a hot room. You can just take a nice walk and still be healthy.”

6. She Is a Yogi

For Hewitt, fitness is all about variety. “I try to switch it up a bit,” she told OK! I’ve been doing pilates, I’ve been doing yoga, I’ve done just plain old walking. I wear 10 pound weights on my ankles while I’m working just so that as I’m moving during the day I’m constantly building muscle. It’s not great for your back but I’m doing it anyway. I do a booty workout thing that I just did for Shape, which was really fun. And I do Zumba. I have DVDs and I dance around like a crazy person in my house.”

In addition to her impressive acting ability, the star is a total bombshell and has one of the fittest figures in Hollywood. Here are the top 5 habits that help her stay fit at 27.

Water Skiing

Sydney Sweeney arrives to "The Road to the Golden Globes Party"

Sydney has been water skiing since she was a toddler. “The moment I could walk, my mom put me on what’s called a U-board to learn how to ski,” she told Women’s Health. “I remember that whenever we would go by the docks of my grandma’s or my cousin’s house, I’d wave. I felt so cool because I could take off one hand. That’s my earliest memory of skiing, but I’ve been doing it as long as I can remember. It’s my favorite.” How does it help her achieve her amazing body? “It’s a lot of upper body strength, it’s balance, it’s core, it’s legs—you get tired really fast,” she says. “I see such a change in my body after an entire summer of [skiing]. My arms are stronger, more sculpted. My abs are rock solid. But I never look at it as a workout because it is so much fun,” she said.

Morning Workouts

Sydney mixes up her exercise routine, but likes to get workouts over with early in the day. “I like to work out in the morning, so I’ll either go for a run or I’ll go to Solidcore,” says Sydney. The high-intensity, low-impact Pilates-inspired workout “makes me feel so strong, but also elongated,” Sydney said about her sweat sessions. “I feel so good afterwards.”

Sydney engages in self-care activities. “I love to paint, and I love to read,” she said. “Those are the activities that are just for me.” One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years than those who weren't readers or who read periodicals.

One of the ways she treats her anxiety is by spending time outdoors with her dog, Tank. She takes him on walks or hikes. Going for a daily walk can be a game changer, especially at a brisk speed. One study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day reduced the risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia, and death, compared with walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.

Strength Training

Mariana relies on old-school strength training to keep her body toned. “Training till failure instead of reps + taking my ab routine up a notch by incorporating weighted exercises,” she wrote about one of her workout tactics. “I can feel my muscles being challenged and am in tune with my movements.” According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Other healthy habits? “Prioritizing digestion,” she writes in the same post. “Making sure I get enough fiber & starting off every morning with a juice cleanse. This has helped me feel so much better everyday.” She also gets regular blood work done. “So important to check your levels and know what’s going on in your body routinely! Don’t skip the doc apts, always better to be preventative.”

Hiking

Mariana enjoys hiking. “Elevation therapy,” she captioned a post from one of her fitness adventures. According to the National Parks Service, the physical benefits of hiking include:

  • Building stronger muscles and bones
  • Improving your sense of balance
  • Improving your heart health
  • Decreasing the risk of some respiratory issues

Mariana does reformer Pilates. “POV: Stepping into the prettiest torture chamber,” she wrote across a video of herself at the studio. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Emsculpt NEO

Mariana recently got an aesthetic body treatment, Emsculpt NEO. “I’ve heard all the rage about the benefits to spot reducing fat & toning muscle so I had to give it a try to target those pesky lower abs. It was a 10/10 & a great addition to my workout routine,” she wrote.
