Kate Walsh Makes a Splash in Bikini While Scuba Diving on Dream Vacation

The actress shared a photo of herself scuba diving with a sea turtle.

Kate Walsh is best known for her role as Addison Montgomery on Grey’s Anatomy. Her character was so popular, she got her own spinoff show, Private Practice. Kate is currently traveling the world, and giving all of us vacation envy on Instagram. Recently, she went on a scuba diving adventure. In a new photo on her page, she is seen swimming with a sea turtle. Kate wore a white bikini bottom and a blue swim shirt, and captioned the post, “Growing up near the beach in Northern California, I’ve always had a profound love & deep connection to the ocean – which is why I’m extremely proud to be a longtime supporter of @Oceana, the world’s largest organization dedicated solely to ocean conservation who is celebrating their 23rd birthday today!” Here are 5 of Kate Walsh’s fitness secrets.

1

She Swims

As you can see from her Instagram post, Kate likes to swim to keep herself in shape. According to research done by Better Health, swimming is a great form of exercise. “Swimming is a good all-round activity because it:

  • keeps your heart rate up but takes some of the impact stress off your body
  • builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness
  • helps you maintain a healthy weight, healthy heart and lungs
  • tones muscles and builds strength
  • provides an all-over body workout, as nearly all of your muscles are used during swimming.”

She Does Different Workouts

Kate’s workout routine can be summed up in two words: variety and location. She tells Coveteur that her workouts change depending on where she is living. “When I’m at home in L.A., I hike with the dogs, but since I’m in New York, I do Pilates mixed with hot yoga. I do some weight training, too.”

3

She Eats Good Fats

Kate tells Coveteur that she needs a lot of good fats in her diet. “I try to do a high-fat and low-carb diet. We’re sort of socialized to stay away from fats in our culture, when it’s actually the opposite; sugars and carbs are the ones that are bad, our brains are 60% fat. We need good fats, and the proof is in the blood work. I went and had a physical after doing a year of high fat—including animal fats—and my numbers were great. My cholesterol went down, my bone density went up, so that’s really interesting.”

4

She Drinks A Lot Of Water

Kate makes sure to stay hydrated. In fact, she even brings a water cooler with her to work. “I bring my own water cooler,” she said to Coveteur. “Lemon is great because the alkaline balances your body. I feel like I’m winning if I drink one of these [jugs] a day, plus a couple more glasses. This will make you do it. It’s like a giant sippy cup.”

5

Subhead Goes Right Here

When it comes to her diet, Kate believes in balance. She admits to Us Weekly that she doesn’t like to deprive herself of her favorite indulgences. “I can’t deny it … if I try to diet, then I’ll just be like, ‘I guess I need a bucket of ice cream.’ Like I can’t. So I have to allow my chips and treats and things like that.”
