The Washington Trails Association states, “While any type of physical movement will result in the body using its stored energy, the unique nature of hiking can result in greater calorie burn than other forms of exercise. In fact, research from the University of Florida concluded that walking on uneven terrain, like that of hiking trails, causes the body to use 28 percent more energy than walking on flat, even ground due to the subtle shifts in the way your leg muscles must lengthen or shorten while hiking.”

5. She Plays Tennis

Kacy Catanzaro is getting in a workout while traveling in her exercise clothes. In a new social media post, the first woman to complete an American Ninja Warrior city finals course shows off her amazing body in a mirror selfie during a hotel sweat session. “Hotel workouts ✨,” she captioned the Instagram photo. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

1. Strength Training

Kacy sticks to mostly strength training. “I do body-weight circuit training four to six days a week, in the morning. I throw together exercises like pull-ups, pushups, lunges, squats, and tuck jumps. I pick four exercises and do them in a row. I usually do four rounds of this. I might aim for 11 pull-ups, but some days I might get 10 or I might get 12. The point is to make yourself tired; that way you build up your cardio too. You don't have to lift heavy weights to keep yourself strong. The goal is to be really light and lean, and I do that by using my body weight and doing more reps. This keeps me fit for the course,” she told Self.

2. Early AM Workouts

Kacy likes to sweat before she eats. “Work out in the morning, followed by a nutrient-filled breakfast,” she told Today about her top tip. "Usually I like to work out in the morning before I eat. After the workout I like to eat a banana and definitely some oatmeal for a little bit extra boost. I love smoothies. We make green smoothies at home. I like cucumbers, celery, ginger and kale. We use a lot of greens!"

3. Fun Workouts

Kacy does two-a-days, with her second workout usually something more fun and social. “For my second workout at night, I do something fun with my boyfriend, like going rock-climbing, biking, or doing mock obstacle courses. That way I get everything done, but I also get to enjoy life, so I don't get burned out,” she told Self.

4. Workout Buddy

Kacy has a workout buddy, her boyfriend, fellow American Ninja Warrior Brent Steffensen. “Brent has been my secret weapon. We work at the same obstacle gym, Alpha Warrior in San Antonio, Texas, and train together. He's a huge veteran on the show. He knows what he's doing. Even just being able to watch him has been a big help. I feel like being a Ninja Warrior is different from most sports. You want to get the fastest time and do all of the obstacles—you are competing against everyone else—but no one wants anyone else to do badly. They want to them to their best as well. When Brent and I walk up together, I don't think, I have to beat Brent. We both want to reach our potential. You're reaching for the same goal. You're seeing each other through it. It's really nice having him by my side,” she told Self.

5. Visualization

Kacy explained to Today that visualization is a helpful tool for her. "I like visualizing a lot, so the night before a competition and right before, I will visualize myself. I’ll close my eyes, turn away from everybody and just see myself doing exactly what I want to accomplish,” she said. "It really helps me stay super calm when I am on the course. It’s almost like I've already done this. It’s much easier to make it happen if you really believe it and see it being done."

“Rani doesn’t quite understand my post workout routine yet ,” Kate cheekily captioned the image of herself lounging on a couch in a bikini with her daughter feeding her chips. "I CANT !!!!!!" commented floral designer Eric Buterbaugh. "1st with your rocking body and 2nd with just how cute that Rani is, it’s all too much." "Lol," said Katie Couric. Fashion designer Brian Atwood responded with all heart emojis.

2. She Works Out Consistently

One of Kate’s secrets to staying in shape is that she makes sure to work out nearly every day. Kate is incredibly fit because she makes exercise a priority, working out almost daily. She works out “at least 30 minutes a day, maybe five times a week,” she revealed in an interview with InStyle. “I make sure that I don't go a day without doing something for 30 minutes. I've been doing that since April and I've noticed enormous changes in my body."

3. She Alternates Workouts

Kate told InStyle that when it comes to exercise, she does “everything.” Alternating workouts is a great tactic to avoid workout fatigues. “I have to switch it up, I get so bored," she explained. "I've been loving the Obé app, they have 20-minute workouts that are really hard and if you do them with the proper form they're really effective. I love my yoga apps, like Glo, and I use Body by Simone and Tracy Anderson's apps too — there's nothing better than her abs workout. I love my Peloton. I love Pilates — that's always been my number one." Recently she has been sharing some of her Tracy Anderson Method moves on Instagram.

4. She Focuses on Her Core

The key to Kate’s flat abs is abdominal workout. “I’m an ab [workout] fanatic,” she told Well + Good about her focus area, “and I hate [doing] them.” She often uses a stability ball to force her abs to work harder. “I’ve had a C-section, and I think any woman who has had a C-section knows how hard it is to re-engage that lower part of your abs,” she explained. “My C-section was 16 years ago, but if I go a few days without doing abs, my brain has a hard time re-engaging that area.”

5. She Does Things That Make Her “Feel Good”

“I’ve always felt that wellness is about your quality of life,” she recently explained to Women's Health about her personal philosophy when it comes to fitness. “You need to know what makes you feel good. It’s about doing the things you love, eating the things you want to, exercising and not feeling like you need to [push yourself] for two hours in a hot room. You can just take a nice walk and still be healthy.”

6. She Loves Yoga

Serenity,And,Yoga,Practicing,At,Mountain,Range,meditationShutterstock

Kate is a longtime yogi. "It's about understanding your own individual likes, not fads," she once told SELF about her yoga practice, which includes transcendental meditation and Kundalini yoga. "Anything you do helps. You could sit there and not think of your mantra for your whole practice, but you're still benefiting.”

Water Skiing

Sydney has been water skiing since she was a toddler. “The moment I could walk, my mom put me on what’s called a U-board to learn how to ski,” she told Women’s Health. “I remember that whenever we would go by the docks of my grandma’s or my cousin’s house, I’d wave. I felt so cool because I could take off one hand. That’s my earliest memory of skiing, but I’ve been doing it as long as I can remember. It’s my favorite.” How does it help her achieve her amazing body? “It’s a lot of upper body strength, it’s balance, it’s core, it’s legs—you get tired really fast,” she says. “I see such a change in my body after an entire summer of [skiing]. My arms are stronger, more sculpted. My abs are rock solid. But I never look at it as a workout because it is so much fun,” she said.

Morning Workouts

Sydney mixes up her exercise routine, but likes to get workouts over with early in the day. “I like to work out in the morning, so I’ll either go for a run or I’ll go to Solidcore,” says Sydney. The high-intensity, low-impact Pilates-inspired workout “makes me feel so strong, but also elongated,” Sydney said about her sweat sessions. “I feel so good afterwards.”

Self-Care

Sydney engages in self-care activities. “I love to paint, and I love to read,” she said. “Those are the activities that are just for me.” One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years than those who weren't readers or who read periodicals.

She Walks and Hikes

One of the ways she treats her anxiety is by spending time outdoors with her dog, Tank. She takes him on walks or hikes. Going for a daily walk can be a game changer, especially at a brisk speed. One study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day reduced the risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia, and death, compared with walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.

We are committed to bringing you researched, expert-driven content to help you make more informed decisions around food, health, and wellness. We know how important making choices about your overall health is, and we strive to provide you with the best information possible.

Mariana Morais is showing off her ab-fab figure – in a two-piece exercise set. In a new social media post, the fitness influencer flaunts her fantastic figure in a brown sports bra and leggings. “Self Progress & Development is not always linear. Sometimes we take steps back & that’s just a sign to course correct so we can leap forward. If 2024 wasn’t the year you expected, use it as an opportunity to learn, grow, & carry on. It’s you VS you - continue to try, focus on consistency > perfection & you will prevail 🤎 rooting for us all to strengthen our mind & bodies this year,” she captioned the series of Instagram snaps. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

Strength Training

Mariana relies on old-school strength training to keep her body toned. “Training till failure instead of reps + taking my ab routine up a notch by incorporating weighted exercises,” she wrote about one of her workout tactics. “I can feel my muscles being challenged and am in tune with my movements.” According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Prioritizing Digestion and Getting Blood Work Done

Other healthy habits? “Prioritizing digestion,” she writes in the same post. “Making sure I get enough fiber & starting off every morning with a juice cleanse. This has helped me feel so much better everyday.” She also gets regular blood work done. “So important to check your levels and know what’s going on in your body routinely! Don’t skip the doc apts, always better to be preventative.”

Hiking

Mariana enjoys hiking. “Elevation therapy,” she captioned a post from one of her fitness adventures. According to the National Parks Service, the physical benefits of hiking include:

  • Building stronger muscles and bones
  • Improving your sense of balance
  • Improving your heart health
  • Decreasing the risk of some respiratory issues

Pilates

Mariana does reformer Pilates. “POV: Stepping into the prettiest torture chamber,” she wrote across a video of herself at the studio. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Emsculpt NEO

Mariana recently got an aesthetic body treatment, Emsculpt NEO. “I’ve heard all the rage about the benefits to spot reducing fat & toning muscle so I had to give it a try to target those pesky lower abs. It was a 10/10 & a great addition to my workout routine,” she wrote.
