Kayla Itsines' Lower Ab Workout Is Your Fast-Track to a Six-Pack

Australian personal trainer and fitness influencer Kayla Itsines has been training women since 2008. The co-founder of popular fitness app, Sweat, has an impressive 15.7 million followers on Instagram, where she shares many of her go-to workouts. Her page is filled with ab routines, which comes as no surprise, given her enviable six-pack. In December, Itsines posted an Instagram video of herself performing a lower ab workout, or shall we say, "lower ab burn," providing you with all the inspiration you need to put that core to work.

Here are the fitness habits Itsines follows to keep her abs and body sculpted and toned.

She Performs Lower Ab Workouts

Istines completes plenty of ab work to keep herself in top shape.

In her December Instagram post, the fitness star is seen doing several no-equipment exercises, such as marching hip bridges (20 reps; 10 on each side), flutters (30 seconds), bent-leg raises (10 reps), bicycle legs (20 reps; 10 on each side), and leg raises (10 reps), all of which promote a great abdominal burn.

She captioned the clip, "Lower ab burn [fire emoji] I created this workout specifically to target your lower abdominal region. No equipment required and you can complete it at home."

She Trains With Her Just Body Weight

Istines is all about doing workouts that don't require equipment, and that includes her ab workouts. In another Instagram video, she breaks down an additional ab routine that uses just her body weight. The exercises include ab bikes (30 seconds), straight-leg raises (30 seconds), half burpees (30 seconds), straight-leg jackknife (12 reps), side plank with crunches (12 reps), single-leg ab bikes (30 seconds), and mountain climbers (30 seconds)

She captioned the post, "Please apologise to your abs for me…"

She Uses Weights, Too

While Istines performs many quipment-free workouts, she also incorporates weights.

She posted this Instagram video of herself doing a full-body workout with dumbbells. Istines captioned the post, "You + me + a pair of dumbbells = today's full body workout sorted [starry-eyed emoji] FULL WORKOUT: Shoulder Press, 8 reps; Renegade Row, 12 reps (6 per side); Bent-Over Row, 8 reps; Russian Twist, 24 reps; Bulgarian Split Squat, 16 reps (8 per side); Sumo Squat, 12 reps; Romanian Deadlift, 12 reps; Alternating Lunge, 16 reps (8 per side); Side Plank, 60 sec (30 sec per side); Sit-Up, 20 reps."

She Clearly Knows the Importance of Strength Training

It's clear Itsines knows how essential strength training is in a well-rounded fitness regimen.

In one video, she's seen doing various muscle-building exercises, such as squats, lunges, and glute bridges. Istines captioned the post, "Strength train at home At @Sweat we have so many strength programs that you can do entirely from home. If you're looking to start strength training, my advice would be to try out some home programs first!"

She Takes Her Workouts Outdoors

It seems like Itsines enjoys spending time outdoors—and her workout sessions are no exception. Many of her routines are filmed in the bright sunlight.

This Instagram video serves as a prime example, where Itsines uses a park bench for her training routine. She demonstrates exercises like tricep dips, squats, mountain climbers, incline pushups, and step-ups.

Istines captioned the post, "Okay first of all… who's been gatekeeping how BEAUTIFUL Auckland is!? Secondly, this workout in the sun had me like [sweating emoji]." In the video, Istines included the words, "If you've got a bench, you've got a gym."
