Read on to see 5 ways Laurie Hernandez stays in shape and the photos that prove they work.
1. She Has The Right Mindset
Hernandez shared some of her workout secrets in an interview with Well + Good. She says that one of her biggest training secrets is having a good mindset. "I walk into practice and I think, 'Okay, here I am. I feel connected. I'm ready to go.' Then all my skills just fall into place and they're easier, and I can give a lot more effort."
2. She Wants To Inspire Others
Hernandez wants to use her platform to inspire other girls. She shared this post on Instagram for Dove’s Keep Her Confident challenge. Hernandez captioned the post, “Doing gymnastics has always given me the confidence to trust my mind, my body and to know that my body is a lot stronger than I think.💪🏽 That’s why I’m proud to partner with @Dove on the #KeepHerConfident Challenge to help keep girls in sports. 🏈⚽🏀🏑 Dove research reveals 45% of girls globally drop out of sports due to low body confidence – together, we can raise awareness about this and help them stay in the game.”
3. She Uses Vitamin C On Her Skin
Hernandez shared some of her favorite products in an interview with CNN. She says that she likes to use Vitamin C moisturizer on her skin. “Before even partnering with Olay, I was using their vitamin C moisturizer just in general. And I noticed that after using vitamin C, my skin feels like it’s woken up. When they reached out, I was like, ‘Wait a second, I use this [moisturizer] already,’ and it felt like the perfect match.”
4. She Does Splits
Hernandez prioritizes her recovery. One thing she does to recover is stretch. She tells Well + Good that she likes to do splits to help with her. "Especially if I take a couple days off and I come back, stretching in oversplits makes sure that my hips are good if I'm doing a dynamic fold.”
5. She Swims
Hernandez spends a lot of time outside. One thing she likes to do to stay in shape is going swimming. Hernandez shares a lot of posts on Instagram of herself in the water. She shared this photo of herself wading at the beach, captioning it, “Water so clear u can see fish dapping up all their fish friends.” Hernandez also shared these beach photos from Puerto Rico. She captioned that post, “Hey! This isn’t Bobst Library!”
