Laverne Cox in Bikini Is “Entertaining Offers”

Here are her diet and fitness habits

Laverne Cox is working it in her bikini. In a new social media post, the Orange Is the New Black star flaunts her incredibly fit figure in a bathing suit while offering up her modeling services. “I’m currently entertaining offers to walk the runway for upcoming fashion weeks globally,” she captioned the Instagram clip. How does the star, 53, approach health and wellness? Here are her diet and fitness habits.

1

Exercise

Cox believes everyone has the right to work out and feel comfortable doing so. “I’ve talked to trans folks who haven’t felt comfortable at a certain gym. They don’t feel like [the gym is] inclusive or they’re not supported, they’re singled out, or harassed there. So having this space be inclusive for people of color or LGBTQ folks, is crucial,” she told InStyle.

Dabbling in Plant-Based Eating

Cox went vegan for a short period of time in 2017. “Found out today that @rubyrose and I are both Vegans. It’s only been 12 weeks for me but I feel so much better,” she wrote on Instagram. Four months into her plant-based diet she learned she had a soy sensitivity. She then started incorporating fish into her mostly plant-based diet.

Finding Fitspiration

Laverne told InStyle that she gets fitspiration from other people. At the time, it was courtesy of the man she was dating. “He’s in incredible shape, and he’ll send me videos of him working out, and he boxes. He’s really committed to working out, so I’m going to get it together,” she said.

Talking It Out

Laverne is an advocate of therapy. “When you have trauma, eventually it needs to be reprocessed. What I’m working on with my therapist now is building up my resourcing, so that when it’s time to reprocess the trauma, it’s not re-traumatizing. You don’t want to flood yourself revisiting that trauma because that can keep you from healing—you have to go slowly. My therapist defines trauma as too much too fast, or too little for too long,” she told Health.

Dancing

Cox enjoys dancing. “I started dance classes again and it’s so much fun. I hate working out, so getting in a rhythm has been a struggle,” Laverne confessed to Health. “When I go to the gym, it becomes goal-oriented and not process-oriented. When I start thinking about the results, it’s not a good space for me to be in. I’m better when I focus on the journey. I want to turn 50 and be healthy. That’s part of the reason I started dance classes again. I want to feel good in my body, mind, and spirit.”
