Leann Rimes is sharing her favorite Trader Joe’s finds with her 1 million Instagram followers. Rimes, 42, posted a video of herself wearing brown Alo Yoga gear and a “This Is My 2nd Rodeo” hat, talking about the items in her grocery haul. “Okay, you know I love me some pumpkin and I heard @traderjoes is the place to go for the best fall food haul. So obviously, I had to go check it out and give it a little #rimesrates 🎃Just a head’s up, this video contains some distressing footage of my heart breaking over some mac and cheese…. 💔 LOL. Where should we hit next? I’m SO ready for all the holiday snacks,” she captioned the fun post. Rimes has been in the public eye since she was a teenager—here’s how the singer is thriving in her 40s.
Holistic Health
Rimes follows a holistic approach to her health and wellness. “There are so many changes that a woman’s body begins to go through during this decade, so I wanted to educate myself on how to support my body throughout those transitions,” she told The Chalkboard Mag. “I discovered Dr. Mindy Pelz and her book The Menopause Reset, which has been hugely influential in my health journey, as has she. I have been working with her to learn my own personal rhythms around my cycle, incorporating intermittent fasting as a cornerstone of taking care of my hormones, my mental health and my overall wellbeing.”
Infrared Sauna Sessions
ShutterstockRimes loves using her infrared sauna whenever possible. “Usually, that looks like 4-5 times a week and I fit it in during my day whenever possible,” she told Sunlighten. “Sometimes, my sauna sessions are in the later afternoon, but mostly, I like going in during the later morning after my workout and just as I’m breaking my fast. I’ve noticed that my body treats a session in the sauna like it would a workout and releases stored sugar while I’m in there, so blood sugar rises, and it usually throws me out of ketosis for a moment. Knowing that, I try and avoid it while I’m fasting, but I go in as soon as I break my fast. I usually use either the detox or weight loss setting. I like the weight loss setting when I want to kick the heat up a notch and have a little less time on my hands.”
Health First
Rimes lives with psoriasis and prioritizes her health and wellness. “Everything begins and ends with a healthy mind, body and spirit,” she told Sunlighten. “Rest has become a priority. Not only sleep, but rest, which means longer stretches of time at home from touring and traveling. It’s also meant building a lifestyle around my cycle and my hormonal needs, which includes everything from learning how to fuel my body with the right foods at different times of my cycle to creating daily habits such as meditation, breathwork, and my sauna, of course, to help reduce acute stress, to creating a fasting lifestyle, at the appropriate times in my cycle, helping to heal my body at a cellular level… just to name a few.”
Tools for Recovery
Rimes has a system for maintaining stamina while on the road. “One of my favorite tools that I use in the studio and on the road is called ‘rapid release therapy’ which is a high frequency vibration tool to help open up the fascia in my neck, chest and head before I perform,” she told The Chalkboard Mag. “After all these years of performing, I’ve finally started to treat myself like the athlete that I am. My body takes a beating from traveling and performing, so I have to find a way to create some freedom in my body and recover from the constant demand I put on it. All of these tools help me do just that. I support my own innate healing with multiple things, but ultimately, I have been learning to trust my own body, its ability to heal and my own natural rhythms.”
Thriving In Her 40's
Rimes is embracing life in her 40s. “Throughout my life, I’ve heard from my mom or other women in my life that ‘everything goes downhill after 40,’ and I was like ‘nope, not on my watch!’” she told Sunlighten. “I am aware of the hormonal changes that women go through during this season of our lives and the cascade of health challenges that our ever changing hormonal landscape can usher in, but I also am very aware of the influence we can have over our own health journey by educating ourselves and making lifestyle changes to not only survive perimenopause/menopause, but to thrive during this time and make the transition a whole lot smoother. ”
