Lindsey Vonn is a professional alpine skier with a looooong resume. She has won one gold and two bronze medals in the Olympics. Vonn has also won two golds, three silvers, and three bronze medals in the World Championships. Vonn recently enjoyed a beach vacation, and shared a set of photos of herself wading and holding a starfish on Instagram. She captioned it, ā€œStranger things have happened.ā€ In another she was "defrosting." Here's how she stays so fit.

She Works Hard

Vonn makes sure to work hard. She recently had surgery, and has been documenting her rehab process on Instagram. She talked about the importance of working hard in the caption of this Instagram video. ā€œWhat doesnā€™t kill you makes you stronger šŸ’ŖšŸ»!! It may seem insignificant, but I havenā€™t been able to jump on my right leg like that for many, many years. Today I am SO much stronger than I was before! I literally had to take a moment and regroupā€¦ I got very emotional and I was so so happy. This is an incredible journey after surgery that I did not expect. Just another reminder to NEVER GIVE UP on yourself!!ā€

She Wants To Learn

Vonn is all about learning things. She talked about this in the caption of this Instagram post. ā€œThe sun rises on another weekā€¦ a week full of opportunity to grow and learn. Loving the process, no matter where it leadsā€¦ because itā€™s always been about the journey. One step at a time, I will get to where Iā€™m meant to go. So why not give it your all, you never know where your hard work will take you šŸ’ŖšŸ»ā¤ļø

She Does Squats

One exercise that Vonn likes to do are squats. She did them as a way to help with her surgery rehab. Vonn included a photo and video of herself doing squats with a barbell in this Instagram post. She captioned it, ā€œMonday grind. Putting in the work. Biometrics testing with @redbull šŸ’ŖšŸ»You know me, even if Iā€™m working hardā€¦ I still have fun! Legit wonder what the computer thought of my dance moves šŸ¤ŖšŸ˜‚ā€

She Gets Enough Protein, Fats, and Carbs

Vonn broke down her diet in an interview with Bon Appetit. She says that she makes sure to get enough carbs, protein, and fat in her diet. ā€œIā€™m training probably nine months out of the year. I eat foods that I like, but theyā€™re more portioned, and the carb-to-protein-to-fat ratio is calculated in each meal. Now Iā€™m eating like 50-50 protein-to-carbs at breakfast. Lunch is maybe 60-40, and dinner is usually no carbs. I eat a lot of fat in my dietā€”avocado, almond butter, olive oil, even bacon.

She Has Cheat Days

Vonn talked about the importance of having cheat days in her Bon Appetit interview. ā€œYouā€™ll drive yourself insane if you only eat what youā€™re supposed to eat every single day for the whole summer, so after a heavy workout Iā€™ll splurge sometimes. Usually itā€™s on frozen yogurt, but banana bread is always a nice comfort foodā€¦I think itā€™s just good for everyone to find a balance of being healthy but also enjoying food. Everything in moderation. You shouldnā€™t take away completely the things you really enjoy eating.ā€

Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn went on an unforgettable trip to Lake Como, Italy, in October. Vonn, 39, stayed at the luxury boutique Passalacqua hotel right on the lake, and shared highlights from the vacation on her social media. The athlete posted pictures of herself posing next to a swimming pool in a gray bikini, her hair tied back in a low bun. ā€œLooking back,ā€ she captioned the post. Vonnā€™s training and diet have changed since she retired from skiingā€”hereā€™s what she does now.

1. New Training, New Physique

Vonn does a mixture of cardio and strength training three times a week with celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson. She now has a body fat percentage of 15%, in comparison to 19% when she was skiing competitively. ā€œIā€™m a lot leaner,ā€ she says. ā€œI used to do things that were so sport specific, so I had to be bigger. But everyone is like, ā€˜Oh my God, youā€™re in the best shape of your life.ā€™ Itā€™s like ā€” yes and no. Iā€™m not training for my sport anymore, I am training to be lean and fit.ā€

2. Training Diet

New,York,,New,York,-,September,09:,Lindsey,Vonn,AttendsShutterstock

Vonn ate a clean, light diet when she was training and competing. ā€œOne thing that I don't eat before my races is meat,ā€ she says. ā€œNo steaks, no burgers. Your body is spending a lot of energy trying to digest it instead of using your energy to recover and rest and get ready for the raceā€¦ In the morning usually I'd try to eat eggs and oatmeal, or in Europe they'd have muesli. When we'd go up on the mountain I'd always have some sort of snack like a protein bar, but I'd always get nervous so I never ate a lot when I was on the hill. Twenty minutes before the race I'd have a Red Bull, I always needed that extra energy. When I finished the race I'd have a banana and protein shake to replenish and refuelā€”it was usually a couple hours before I'd get back to the hotel, so I would eat what I could find. By the time I got back to the hotel, it would be dinnertime so I'd try to have protein, carbs, and veggies: My ideal meal was salmon, rice, and veggies.ā€

3. Retirement Diet

Zucchini,Spaghetti,With,Beef,BologneseShutterstock

Vonnā€™s diet has changed since her retirement. ā€œMy eating doesn't look anything like it used to,ā€ she says. ā€œI still try to eat healthy but I definitely let myself indulge a bit more, especially after dinner. It's pretty simple in the morning: eggs, avocado. Lunch is usually chicken and kale or a chicken salad, I try not to have too many carbs because I'm not working out that hard so I don't really need a ton of carbs. For dinner, I either do a beyond meat burger or a bolognese but the noodles are zucchini. And then dessert is almost always ice creamā€”I can't help myself, it's like, OK, I'm not competing any more so I get to treat myself.ā€

4. Ice Cream Lover

Lindsey,Vonn,At,The,Lacma,Art+film,Gala,Presented,By,GucciShutterstock

Ice cream is Vonnā€™s favorite indulgence. ā€œI would say preferably froyo, I really like it with Reese's pieces combined with Reese's cupsā€”but crumbled,ā€ she says. ā€œIf you're really going for it you can add some brownie bites in there. But if you can't get froyo, Ben & Jerry's always hits the spot.ā€

5. Looking Forward

Vonn is looking ahead to exciting new projects, including the documentary she made about her first mentor. ā€œWe have a great relationship, and I am able to showcase everything she meant to me. We did some interviews already, and there was crying. It was very emotional,ā€ she says. ā€œHonestly, right now, these have been some of the scariest times, because I donā€™t know what is ahead. As an athlete, you try to control as many variables as you can. And I canā€™t control any variables right now. I am just trying to stay in the moment and spend time with people I care about.ā€

Lindsay Vonn, the legendary former pro skier, is not only known for her incredible achievements on the slopes but also for her dedication to fitness and self-care. In a recent social media post, Vonn wowed fans in a two-piece workout set while sharing her intense leg-burning routine. Despite her busy schedule, she stays consistent in the gym, using exercise as both a physical outlet and a mental escape. From maintaining her authenticity to empowering young girls through her foundation, here's a closer look at how Vonn balances fitness, self-care, and giving back.

1. She True to Herself

Vonn stays true to her authentic self and doesnā€™t pretend to be something sheā€™s not.

"I was always just myself,ā€ she told Womenā€™s Health. ā€œYou can be strong and feminine and opinionated and wear makeup and do all those things at the same time. You don't have to be the stereotypical athlete. You can be different," she stated in the interview. "There's no limit to what opportunities are out there [for you], you just have to go get them."

2. She Has Healthy Outlets

Life can get overwhelming for anyone, including star athletes, but the former pro skier turns to healthy outlets to cope with challenging moments. In a recent Instagram post, Vonn shared a video of her in the gym doing a variety of workouts including weight lifting, TRX, hanging abs and more. She wrote in the post, ā€œBeen putting the time in the gymā€¦ Itā€™s how I clear my mind and keep my sanityā€¦ when life gets hard, I workout harder.ā€

Hitting the gym is a great stress reducer and helps improve your overall mood.

ā€œExercise can provide stress relief for your body while imitating effects of stress, such as the flight or fight response, and helping your body and its systems practice working together through those effects,ā€ according to the Mayo Clinic. ā€œThis can also lead to positive effects in your body ā€” including your cardiovascular, digestive and immune systems ā€” by helping protect your body from harmful effects of stress.ā€

3. She is Consistent in the Gym

Itā€™s easy to stop going to the gym with a busy schedule, which recently happened to Vonn, but sheā€™s back at it now. On August 5th, Vonn posted an Instagram video with the caption, ā€œBack at it!! Feels so good to get back in the gym and into a routine again.ā€

Besides getting the best fitness results, staying consistent in the gym can help in other ways such as managing or preventing diseases like stroke, depression and anxiety, improves sleep, boosts mood, and can improve intimacy, per the Mayo Clinic.

4. Giving Back

Skiing has always been a major aspect of Vonnā€™s life and she takes time to help empower young girls in sports. Over the summer, she shared on Instagram, ā€œBeyond sports, I love the work that I do through my foundation to empower the next generation of girls, and at the same time, I enjoy sitting on boards and working with the companies I advise to help drive a new frontier in sports and far beyond.ā€

5. Dog Lover

In several social media videos, Vonn is seen with her dogs and occasionally working out with them. Many of us love and cherish our pets like family, but there are also health benefits to owning a pet.

According to U.C. Davis, having a pet can improve mental health in the following ways:

-ā€Help reduce stress and anxiety

-Ease feelings of loneliness

-Provide unconditional love and support

-Create a calming presence

-Give a sense of purpose for pet parentsā€

Golfer Paige Spiranac shares her inspiration and confidence with her 4 million followers. On Instagram, on a slideshow of photos of her in a furry bikini outside in the snow, she said ā€œ25 days of holiday outfits starts tomorrow on my @passes account!āœØ canā€™t play golf in the snow so I thought the next logical thing to do was go out in a bikiniā˜ƒļø.ā€ Hereā€™s how Paige stays in incredible shape.

She Golfs

She loves golfing, getting outside and being active. ā€œIā€™ve been getting asked a lot to post more golf content lol and itā€™s funny because this is the first year in awhile where I actually practiced hard, played some really cool courses, and fell back in love with the gameā¤ļø I played more this year than I have in a long time and honestly playing better than ever. Iā€™ve always loved golf but itā€™s been a love/hate relationship which Iā€™m sure we can all relate to at times lol. My scores were always tied into my self worth and playing just wasnā€™t that much fun. Until this year. Iā€™m so passionate about the game and I shouldā€™ve shared more of that on here! Iā€™m going to do that moving forward,ā€ she said on Instagram.

She Works On Her Swing

She works to improve her golf swing. ā€œHereā€™s an easy at home drill you can do to work on using ground force! Using your legs in your swing will help you hit it longer and more consistent,ā€ she said on Instagram on a video of her talking about tips to strengthen your drive.

She's Active

She finds silly ways to be active and get a workout in, like running football drills. ā€œPut me in coach. Iā€™m ready for the NFL,ā€ she said jokingly on Instagram, working out and kicking the ball. According to the Cleveland Clinic, ā€œwhen you work your heart and other muscles of your body during cardio exercise, this increases oxygen supply to your whole body, allowing all muscles to work harder and more efficiently. Over time, regular cardio exercise allows your muscles to adapt to an increased workload, making regular activities seem easier.ā€

She Walks

She makes an effort to get her steps in, regardless of the weather. ā€œRain, snow, or sunshine Iā€™ve been making an effort to walk more on the golf courseā›³ļø I feel like it makes my rounds better but itā€™s hard when youā€™re carrying massive jugs aroundā€¦.those water bottles add so much weight,ā€ she said on Instagram.

She's Confident

Sheā€™s confident and fierce. ā€œGolden hourāœØ,ā€ she said on Instagram, posing in a tan dress. According to UC Davis, ā€œfindings show that people with high self-esteem generally have more success at school and work, better social relationships, improved mental and physical health, and less anti-social behavior.ā€

1. Revamp Your Approach to Fitness

How did Lindsey get "a lot leaner" after she retired from skiing?. "I used to do things that were so sport specific, so I had to be bigger," she told New York Post's Alexa magazine. "But everyone is like, 'Oh my God, you're in the best shape of your life.' It's like ā€” yes and no. I'm not training for my sport anymore, I am training to be lean and fit." She is down to her lowest body fat percentage of her life, 15 percentā€”five percent less than her all-time low of 19 percent. "Different training. Different diet. Crazy!"

2. Eat Clean

Vonnā€™s ā€œski seasonā€ diet included ā€œa lot of protein and carbs,ā€ she told People. However, Phil Goglia revamped her diet on it now focuses on drinking a lot of water, eating clean food, and timing her meals. ā€œI try not to eat too much in the morning before I work out,ā€ she told Womenā€™s Health. ā€œIā€™m not working out crazy hard, but I notice I feel better; not as weighed down.ā€ After exercising Lindsey eats ā€œegg white omelets with broccoli, chicken, and pepper, and stuff like that.ā€ For lunch, she chooses between chicken or salmon with kale or cabbage. Dinner is also a mix of protein and veggies ā€“ like chicken salad with avocado or a zucchini pasta with bolognese meat sauce. Her favorite snacks are almonds, kiwis, and blueberries.

3. Strength Train Hard

Vonn is serious about exercise and hard-core strength training. She trains with Gunnar Peterson and isnā€™t afraid of lifting heavy weights. Her workouts are a combo of strength and weight training, using a lot of weighted balls, battle ropes, lifts, squats. You can check out one of her workouts here. And, she never skips a workout.

4. Eat As Plant-Based As Possible

Lindsey does eat meat and animal products but she does slip in plant-based foods when she can. ā€œListen, the kitchen can be intimidating to anyone. But Iā€™m here to tell you: You can do it. And with the new year, letā€™s do it better, together. Iā€™ve got 14 places to help you start eating more plant-based foods,ā€ she captioned a post, suggesting the Just Egg cookbook to her followers. ā€œNow, if only every new yearā€™s resolution came with a side of omelets.ā€

5. Find a Winter Sport You Love

Lindsey still spends a lot of time on the slopes. ā€œFinally got to ski with my girl @chelseahandler! What an epic day of powder,ā€ she captioned a recent post. Research has linked downhill skiing to a number of health benefits. In addition to promoting physical fitness, it may decrease risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Studies have also found that the more frequently a person skis, prevalence of known hypercholesterolemia, systemic hypertension, diabetes, the frequency of mental stress and the occurrence of memory deficits declines.

6. Find an Active Vacation Hobby

As can be demonstrated by Lindseyā€™s latest social media posts, she doesnā€™t allow herself to be lazy on vacation. ā€œNerded out with all my new free diving gear (thx MaresšŸ¤æ šŸ™šŸ») and got to play footsie with some very friendly stingrays,ā€ she captioned it. Surprisingly, putting on a snorkel and fins and swimming through the water is a great workout. In addition to being a great aerobic exercise and burning calories, other health benefits may include improved cardiovascular function, stress reduction, mood enhancement, and muscular toning.

Last year, Culpo was preparing for her wedding. She told E! News that she made sure to be consistent with her wellness in order to prepare. ā€œReally trying to dial in [on] what I eat, how I workout, the workouts that I do. Trying to get them in consistently because you only get married once and I want to feel my best. But this past season it was just hard being so far away from my normal routine and where I typically live."

Culpo has amazing skin, and she makes sure to take care of it, even while traveling. ā€œI don't wear any makeup when traveling," she says to Travel + Leisure. "That's one rule because I do feel like you will have a higher chance of breaking out if you are wearing a full face of makeup. A few things I always have with me is some sort of a spray. I love Dr. Barbara Sturm or Caudalie or La Mer. I also absolutely love traveling with a makeup wipe, the Neutrogena wipes are great. Something to just take off the sweat you build up.ā€

She Keeps Her Skincare Simple

Culpo shared her skincare routines with Byrdie. She says that she keeps her morning and night routine simple. ā€œI am always trying out new products, so what I gravitate toward is often changing. At night, I usually use an oil and a serum. Right now, I love the Clarins Double Serum. In the morning, I use a Vitamin C serum and an SPF, and, typically, I just rinse my skin with warm water instead of using a cleanser. It is something I swear byā€”it allows for the oils on my skin from sleeping to absorb naturally.ā€

She Uses Products With Vitamins

Culpo shared some of her favorite skincare products with Byrdie. She says that she uses ones that have vitamins in them. ā€œI have noticed a huge difference in my skin with vitamin C and E. I love the Good Janes H2OMyGod Moisturizerā€”it's sort of an all-in-one moisturizer that has vitamin C and collagen peptides. As for vitamin E, I actually just purchase the oil from the drugstore. It is super cheap and great to put on any red marks I may get from an occasional breakout. The healing process is so much quicker when I am using Vitamin E oil.ā€

Culpo makes sure to eat healthy. She shared some of the snacks she packs with her with Travel + Leisure. "I love the Kind bars. I love any sort of nuts, to be honest with you. They are a go-to snack for me. I would say Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% and some almonds would be perfect! Also, electrolytes to stay hydrated or some sort of collagen beauty powder or something."

Abigail Ratchfordā€™s amazing body has helped her become one of the most famous models on the internet. The 32-year-old, who boasts over 9.1 million followers on Instagram alone, attributes her measurement-defying body to a few simple habits. Here is everything she does to stay fit at 32.

She Follows 4 Diet Rules

Abigail swears that abiding by simple rules helps her stay in shape. ā€œI canā€™t diet. That just doesnā€™t work for me,ā€ she told New Beauty. ā€œI started to be healthier by first cutting out soda. Then, I stopped eating after 7 p.m. Finally, I started really watching my portions so I was eating fewer calories every day. And waterā€”lots and lots of water.ā€

She UsesMyFitnessPal

Abigail explains being accountable for what she eats is crucial. While itā€™s not ā€œrocket science,ā€ she does use the MyFitnessPal app to track her eating. ā€œIā€™m the type of person who likes to eat what I want. The app can help anyone do thatā€”you can still eat great food, you just eat less of it,ā€ she added New Beauty.

Pilates

Abigail is a fan of Pilates. ā€œGroup workout classes are so big right now, but I always get nervous around other people in settings like that. I have to go at my own pace without a bunch of distractions so, for me, Pilates with a one-on-one instructor works best. Itā€™s not cheap, but then you also arenā€™t tempted to skip,ā€ she said She added to Menā€™s Fitness via Muscle & Fitness that the workout ā€œkeeps you long and leanā€ ā€” and the Mayo Clinic agrees. They say it ā€œstrengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility resulting in improved overall health.ā€ It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, relief from stress and back pain, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Balanced Diet

ā€œI love green juices and smoothies. Sometimes Iā€™ll put some protein powder in the morningā€”I feel like the mix of vegetables, and vitamins and stuff thatā€™s in them, really gives me a lot of energy in the morning. I love BBQ foodā€”my ultimate cheat is a pulled pork sandwich, sweet potato fries, and macaroni and cheese from this great place in LA,ā€ she told Menā€™s Fitness.

Strength Training

Ratchford also lifts weights. ā€œInitially, I made the mistake that a lot of girls do and I was only doing cardio. I just really didnā€™t see too much change in my body. Iā€™ve been listening to my girlfriends who are in great shape and they say you have to do weight training, you have to go in and do squats. Thatā€™s my new thingā€”Iā€™ve been doing some resistance training, circuit training,ā€ she told Menā€™s Fitness. The Mayo Clinic explains that strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

Develop strong bones

Manage your weight

Enhance your quality of life

Manage chronic conditions

Sharpen your thinking skills
