Mad Men's Christina Hendricks Shares Rare Swimsuit Photos
Christina Hendricks is challenging herself – in her swimsuit. In one of her most recent social media posts the Mad Men star shows off her amazing body in a bathing suit, while revealing she recently conquered a major fear. "Those of you who know me well, know I have a fear of the ocean. But bigger than that fear, is the fear of not doing something extraordinary because I'm too scared. So, I decided I would go to the 40 ft. In Dublin and jump into the Irish Sea. But before I could take my own steps, the ocean, in one dramatic wave , grabbed me from this rock and through me under, scraping my leg, plunging me under water with a mouth full of salt water as I was gasping for breath and then pummeling me over and over again with waves that made it almost impossible to swim back to land. But I did it. And it was exhilarating. I survived. And I might even do it again. But better planning next time…. I'm proud of myself," she captioned the rare sets of swimsuit snaps on Instagram. How does the actress approach health and wellness? Here are some of her top lifestyle habits.
She's Adapted her Diet
Hendrick revealed to Health that she has adapted her diet over the years. "As I've gotten older, I realize that my metabolism has changed. I finally had to get on board with fewer carbs and starches and sugars. I fought it kicking and screaming!" One of her tactics is making healthy food swaps. Like Greek yogurt. "I love dairy, so if I can't have sour cream or creme fraiche, it's a great substitute. I really love the tart tanginess of it. So if I'm dying for French onion dip, I just put in Greek yogurt instead of sour cream," she said.
She Has Workout Buddies
Christina's ex-husband was her gym buddy. "We try to work out together because it makes it so much more fun—and it makes the time go by quickly," she previously told Everyday Health.
She Stashes Kettlebell Weights Around Her House
Christina keeps kettlebell weights around her house to use whenever she has a spare moment. "I keep [them] right next to the bed, so I can run my bathwater, do a set, and then do something else, and then come back and do another set," she told Everyday Health.
She Dances
The actress also likes to dance. "It's an excellent way for me to exercise and not even know that I am," Christina revealed. Dancing is a great workout for many reasons. Not only does it build strength and promote flexibility, but helps you lose weight and even promotes cardiovascular function. A 2016 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine determined that people who engaged in moderate-intensity dancing were 46 percent less likely to develop heart disease or die from it than non-dancers. In comparison, moderate-intensity walkers were just 25 percent less likely to suffer heart health issues.
She Does the Elliptical and Bar Method
"I would say my favorite workout is just the elliptical and doing some free weights. I'm trying to mix it up," she added to Health. "I do Bar Method sometimes, but it's really hard!"
