Jennifer Holland is wishing Mikaela Hoover a happy birthday, celebrating her in her workout gear. In a new social media post, a curated collection of photos and videos, the Guardians of the Galaxy star exercises while her pal honors her on her 40th birthday. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

1. Stand Up Paddleboarding

In the summer you can find Mikaela stand up paddleboarding. The American Council on Exercise (ACE) agrees that paddle boarding is great for the core and also a great form of cardio. The water sport can burn an average of 385 calories for a 140 pound male and 436 for a female the same size, per a study conducted by Arizona State University.

2. Walking

Mikaela enjoys walking. Here she is with friends in Central park. “A day in the park with these beautiful ladies…NYC I kinda really love you,” she captioned the post. Going for a daily walk can be a game changer in terms of exercise, especially at a brisk speed. One study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day led to a reduced risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia and death, compared with walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.

3. Hiking

Mikaela also loves to hike. According to the National Parks Service, the physical benefits of hiking include:

  • Building stronger muscles and bones
  • Improving your sense of balance
  • Improving your heart health
  • Decreasing the risk of certain respiratory problems

4. Bike Riding

Bike riding is another one of her go-to outdoor activities. The Cleveland Clinic explains that biking, a low-impact aerobic exercise, is great for building muscle, improving strength and flexibility, and improving balance. It can also boost mental health and help other health conditions, including arthritis.

5. Reverse Tabletop Leg Lift

In a recent post, Mikaela does a reverse tabletop leg lift, an exercise that strengthens the lower back muscles. Here’s how to do it, courtesy of the Sweat App.

"Step 1: Begin seated on a yoga mat, legs straight and resting your hands slightly wider than your shoulders. This is your starting position.

Step 2: Press your left heel into the floor, using your hamstrings and glutes to lift your hips and extend through your shoulders so that your body forms a straight line from your chest down to your knees. Ensure that your shoulders are directly over your wrists and your knees are directly over your ankles. Your right foot should be elevated off the ground and held in a position that is comfortable throughout the exercise.

Step 3: Slowly lower your hips to return to the starting position. Repeat for the specified number of repetitions or time on each side."

Jessica Biel is wishing her husband a happy birthday – in her workout gear. In a new social media post the actress shows off her amazing body during a couple’s workout session while honoring Justin Timberlake on his special day. “I ALWAYS got you. Happy birthday, babe,” she captioned the Instagram video, filled with various memories of the couple. How does Jessica stay in shape? Here is everything you need to know about her diet and workout routine.

1. She Is “Aware” of Her Body

Jessica,Biel,At,The,Los,Angeles,Premiere,Of,'trolls,BandJessica Biel/Instagram

"I'm aware of how my muscles feel, what it feels like when anything changes. Playing sports and being physical helps me maintain that sort of relationship with my own body. So when I'm doing something, or performing in a physical role, I understand that," Jessica explained to ESPN.

2. She Has a Workout Buddy

Jessica, who trains with celebrity body guru Ben Bruno, has the perfect workout buddy. “Please excuse the photobomb from @justintimberlake while @jessicabiel casually knocks out a super-impressive set of single leg squats,” Bruno captioned one video of their workout. “We’ll give Justin a pass since he’s doing sled rows with four plates on the sled and making it look easy. They’ve definitely gotta be one of the fittest couples around, and they always work hard in the gym while also making sure to keep it fun. Very cool.” “Swolemates,” she captioned another couple’s workout clip.

3. She Does Yoga

Young,Pregnant,Woman,Doing,Fitness,And,Yoga,Excercises,On,BlueShutterstock

Jessica is a yogi. "I started getting into yoga about 10 years ago through a close friend who was an instructor. At first I felt like, ‘I can’t do all those crazy poses,’ and I still can’t, but I’m not competing with anyone. I want to demystify yoga and bring it out to more women and men in the community, where it doesn’t have to be intimidating,” Jessica told Gaiam about her love of the practice.

4. She Avoids Gluten, Wheat, and Dairy

While Jessica is “not all-out anything," she tells Los Angeles Times, she does avoid a few types of food. "Honestly, I just feel better when I don't have gluten or wheat or dairy," she said. "My digestion is better, I feel better, I have more energy." What does she eat in a day? “We’ll start off with Paleo pancakes with some cashew or almond butter on top with some local honey, and we like chicken-apple sausage, and then maybe a fresh juice from the Juicero machine, which we love, we have some green tea with honey—that’s a pretty normal morning for me,” she said. She eats salad with greens from her garden with quinoa or a veggie burger from Whole Foods and nuts for lunch. One of her favorite snacks is gluten-free pretzels with dairy-free almond 'cheese' dip. “And then dinner, if we’re home, it would be cooking up some salmon, some rice, grilling some vegetables, or going out and having some chicken, something a little heartier for dinner,” she added

5. She Hikes

Jessica loves to hike. "I've learned that I can push forward, which was exciting for me,” she told Glamour about hiking Mount Kilimanjaro. “When you get out into the wilderness and strip [away] all of the stuff in your everyday life, you really gain a great respect for your own life, simply as it is. Needing things starts to feel like, Oh, I kind of have everything, don't I? It's pretty great."

Dutch runner Femke Bol is celebrating after winning gold in the mixed 4x400m relay. Bol, 24, shared a picture of herself wearing black shorts and an orange shirt, walking on the track. “Time to get to the start line of my second Olympic Games ✨I cannot wait to enjoy and feel the wonderful atmosphere while giving it my all on the track ❤️‍🔥This will be my schedule:

03/08 20.55 4x400 mixed FINAL

04/08 12.35 400 hurdles heats

06/08 20.07 400 hurdles semis

08/08 21.25 400 hurdles FINAL

09/08 10.40 4x400 women heats

10/08 21.14 4x400 women FINAL

Thank you for all the support, the journey to the games showed me once again how amazing the team around me is and I’m forever grateful for them 🥰,” she captioned the post. Here’s what the athlete’s training and fitness regimen looks like.

1. Hard Work

Bol works hard for her record-breaking speed. “I think that speed is not the most natural thing to me,” she told RunBlogRun. “I work hard to get more speed. But with the fatigue and the lactic, I keep thinking, what is the right pace? I think that is where my talent is. Also, in a 400 flat, what the pace should feel like. I love to go through the lactic and go deeper and go faster. Or in training, when I am full of lactic, can I do one more – when we have a lot of reps in a session. I think that is it, and I need to continue to be able to think and plan because you need a good plan.”

2. Inspired By Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone

Bol is a huge fan of fellow competitor Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. “It's inspirational and motivational how McLaughlin-Levrone's racing and seeing how she's raising the bar,” she told Longview News-Journal. “In all honesty a couple of years ago if you'd told me people would be running 400m hurdles in 51sec, I wouldn't have believed it, and now I'm one of them doing it. The moment you see someone doing it... there's is something in your head that thinks 'maybe I can also do it'. For sure it's something that pushes me to become better and dream better on the 400m hurdles.”

3. Training Camp

Bol trains with a large team in The Netherlands. “I train at Papendal, the National Dutch Sports Center,” she told RunBlogRun. “There is a big group, I think fourteen 400m runners. And also Ajla Del Ponte from Switzerland. So it’s a pretty nice group to be in. We train hard, a lot of tough training – some do more endurance, others more speed. It’s a big group, but training is adapted to the person. I think it’s a nice atmosphere that we train in. In the end, we’re all sore and tired, but we keep having fun. We work together and push each other on. It’s a great place to be and one of the best places in which to become one of the best athletes.”

4. Clearing Her Head

Bol has loved running since she was a young girl. “It was always a way to clear your mind and just have fun and not think too much about other things,” she told Athletics Weekly. “That’s still what I like so much about it. I have sessions I like more and I like less but I enjoy every session and mostly the lactic ones because then it really clears your mind and the only thing you can think about is the pain and how you are going to recover. I just love how you really can mentally challenge yourself so much in the sport and just let go of everything a bit by running.”

5. Loving the Journey

Bol is proud of her accomplishments. “I sometimes ask how I have achieved these things, but I do work hard for it and do so many things for it,” she told RunBlogRun. “It’s not like I click my fingers, and I get it. But still, there are a lot of other athletes who train just as hard and are not achieving these things. I do ask how I have achieved this, and I think it’s amazing. I am enjoying it a lot, which helps.”

Candace Cameron Bure is an actress, best known for her role as DJ Tanner on Full House and the spin-off, Fuller House. She has also appeared in Hallmark movies and Great American Family movies. Bure wished her trainer, Kira Stokes, a happy birthday on Instagram recently. She captioned the post, “Taking a moment to wish my very good friend and trainer extrodinare @kirastokesfit a VERY HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY!! 🎂🎉🎈🥳In honor of her birthday I worked out this morning and did Kira’s new Muscle Up and Shred series on her app, and it’s SOOOO GOOD!! Kira— you are a genius.” How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Candace Cameron Bure stays in shape and the photos that prove they work.

1. She Prioritizes Exercise

Bure tells The Salvation Army that she makes working out a priority in her life. "Just sweating that out and all those endorphins really help me a lot. I notice a huge difference when I don’t exercise, how much it can affect me mentally and kind of deal with depression. That's why I keep going. There are a lot of benefits I get. My mind is most important, and exercise definitely helps that."

2. She Jumps Rope

Bure likes to jump rope. She shared this video on Instagram of herself doing it, captioning it, “First, whips hurt. Second, this is the first time doing 12 double-unders in a row. Whoo Hoo! Does a jump in between still make it count? Just say YES 👍🏼! I’m learning 😜. #jumprope - P.S. some people have said my rope is too long, however I ordered a rope for exactly my height. When I stand on it, it comes just underneath my armpit- which is where it should land. Still think it’s too long?”

3. She Does Push-Ups

Bure shared some of her favorite exercises with Parade. She says that there’s one exercise that she goe to a lot. "I swear by push-ups,” Bure revealed. “Wide grip, tricep, dolphin, inclined, declined, you name it. My arms, shoulders, and back have really changed from constantly doing them.”

4. She Eats Healthy

Food,Products,Representing,The,Mediterranean,Diet,Which,May,Improve,OverallShutterstock

Bure makes sure to eat healthy. She opened up about her diet in an interview with People. “I eat a very plant and grain-based diet,” she said. “I follow a more Mediterranean diet, so I eat lots of fresh vegetables and whole grains and fish. I don’t eat dairy very often, and I’ve cut most of the sugar out of my diet — I see the biggest effect from not eating as much sugar.”

5. She Works With A Trainer

As you can see from her post, Bure works with a trainer. According to ACE Fitness, training has a lot of benefits. “Working with a trainer allows you to become confident with how to perform exercises, use machines and navigate the facility. After a few sessions, you will feel ready to tackle the weight room on your own. Even better, an ego boost during exercise can promote stronger self-confidence and self-efficacy, which can help you stick with your exercise program over the long term.”

9-1-1 star Ellen Hollman is pregnant and absolutely glowing. The actress, 40, shared pictures of what looks like a gorgeous maternity shoot at the beach, wearing a white bikini and white cover up on top as she posed in the water. “Happy Mama 🥰,” she captioned the post. “So beautiful my friend! You glow,” commented Diana Lee Inosanto. Hollman is known for playing tough, strong female characters—here’s how she stays fighting fit.

1. MMA and Hot Yoga

Hollman loves mixing up her workouts, which can be intense. “Aside from a hell of a lot of core work with MMA and knife fighting, I recently discovered hot yoga mixed with ballet and weights,” she says. “That combo calls for a little bit of grace, a lot of sweat, and a few occasional tears. You’ll never find me in a gym. Anything that’s slightly dangerous and gets the heart rate going is my kind of workout. I do all my own stunts for the show, so I need to kick it up to an extreme level in order to sustain 14-hour shoot days, seven months in a row.”

2. Action Star

Hollman loves taking on action roles. “I’ve always had a tremendous, obnoxiously copious amount of energy,” she says. “I make the joke that if I wasn’t physically active on a daily basis, I’m like a Border Collie—I would chew the furniture! I also have this thing in my brain that inhibits fear. For some reason, I’m not intimidated by going to an open mat with a bunch of, you know, two-hundred-plus-pound guys and sparring with them. I was always enthralled by stage-fighting. And I’ve been fortunate enough to be a martial artist for some time now—particularly Jiu-jitsu—and incorporate that onscreen and not have to use a double, face-replacement, or any sort of tricky CGI. And I’ve never seen myself as being physically [strong] despite being a woman—it’s because I’m a woman. I’ve never felt that I’m less than a man, and, because of that, [I feel] I’m able to exude that empathy, that heart, and that vulnerability.”

3. Strong Glutes

Hollman has learned to appreciate her glutes. “I have a love/hate relationship with my bum,” she says. “From being a sprinter most my life, it’s accrued a decent amount of muscle. It’s a pain to find jeans that fit my skinny legs and my booty, but on the bright side I could outrun a cheetah if I needed to.”

4. She’s a Writer and Producer

Clapper,Board,Or,Movie,Slate,On,Red,Background.Shutterstock

Hollman likes to have many strings to her bow when it comes to her career. “I feel like when you wear more than one hat, you don’t put all your eggs in one basket per se,” she says. “For many years, I was totally a performer, so my happiness was predicated on my success as a performer. Little did I know that there are other aspects of the industry that I could also excel at. This is something I encourage other people to do. Whether you’re a performer, writer, director, try switching your roles. You may surprise yourself and discover something new. There’s something else that you not only excel at but you may enjoy more than what you’re currently doing.”

5. She Speaks German

Hollman is bilingual, which came in handy when playing Saxa on Spartacus. “Few people realize this, but I was the only one on set who could actually speak and understand German,” she says. “It's my family's heritage and I learned it in school growing up. If anything, Dan would run his dialogue by me and I'd do my best to help with pronunciation. I love him to bits but I don't think he even knew what was saying at the time!”

Way to go sis!!!” commented one of her followers. “Lucky lucky man…” added another. How does the actress approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

1. Motivation: Her Family

It’s all about motivation when it comes to weight loss, according to Melissa who lost 40 pounds in 2014. “Being able to take off layers or put on a jean that’s a size smaller is so refreshing and it just makes it easier just to move through life,” she said in a video for E! “Especially when chasing children. It just makes it easier for me to play with them and run after them and have the energy.” She added: “Staying in shape and staying fit is so important in my life just because of all the things I want to do.” Some more weight loss benefits? “It just made me happier. It made me feel physically and emotionally lighter to be able to do the things I wanna do, to be able to wear the clothes I wanna wear, to be able to feel sexy around my husband again,” she said. “I’m very proud of myself.”

2. Workouts with Her Husband

Melissa’s husband, who owns BFT Brentwood, a Nashville workout studio that focuses on group strength training and conditioning, is her personal trainer. “Since he’s such an avid workout guy, I wanted to have him train me to see how my body could shift and change,” she told People. While she takes classes like everyone else, she also trains with him for one hour, three times a week, mostly focusing on weight training.

3. Cardio Twice a Week

Melissa also does cardio two other days a week. Her go-to form is spinning. Why is it a great workout? According to the Cleveland Clinic, biking, a low-impact aerobic exercise, is great for building muscle, improving strength and flexibility, and improving balance. It can also boost mental health and help other health conditions, including arthritis.

4. Shakes

Melissa is a fan of Slim Fast shakes. “If my kids are eating something I don’t want, like pizza or burgers, I can have a shake, and it’s satisfying,” Melissa told Us. “It gets me through the night without any cravings, and I feel so much better the next day.”

5. Treat Yourself

Melissa doesn’t deprive herself. "One of my slimming secrets is to treat yourself. It can't be about deprivation. If I want to have a piece of cake or a slice of pizza, I do. And then I get back on track the next day," she told Us.

Water Skiing

Sydney has been water skiing since she was a toddler. “The moment I could walk, my mom put me on what’s called a U-board to learn how to ski,” she told Women’s Health. “I remember that whenever we would go by the docks of my grandma’s or my cousin’s house, I’d wave. I felt so cool because I could take off one hand. That’s my earliest memory of skiing, but I’ve been doing it as long as I can remember. It’s my favorite.” How does it help her achieve her amazing body? “It’s a lot of upper body strength, it’s balance, it’s core, it’s legs—you get tired really fast,” she says. “I see such a change in my body after an entire summer of [skiing]. My arms are stronger, more sculpted. My abs are rock solid. But I never look at it as a workout because it is so much fun,” she said.

Morning Workouts

Sydney mixes up her exercise routine, but likes to get workouts over with early in the day. “I like to work out in the morning, so I’ll either go for a run or I’ll go to Solidcore,” says Sydney. The high-intensity, low-impact Pilates-inspired workout “makes me feel so strong, but also elongated,” Sydney said about her sweat sessions. “I feel so good afterwards.”

Self-Care

Sydney engages in self-care activities. “I love to paint, and I love to read,” she said. “Those are the activities that are just for me.” One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years than those who weren't readers or who read periodicals.

She Walks and Hikes

One of the ways she treats her anxiety is by spending time outdoors with her dog, Tank. She takes him on walks or hikes. Going for a daily walk can be a game changer, especially at a brisk speed. One study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day reduced the risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia, and death, compared with walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Other healthy habits? “Prioritizing digestion,” she writes in the same post. “Making sure I get enough fiber & starting off every morning with a juice cleanse. This has helped me feel so much better everyday.” She also gets regular blood work done. “So important to check your levels and know what’s going on in your body routinely! Don’t skip the doc apts, always better to be preventative.”

Hiking

Mariana enjoys hiking. “Elevation therapy,” she captioned a post from one of her fitness adventures. According to the National Parks Service, the physical benefits of hiking include:

  • Building stronger muscles and bones
  • Improving your sense of balance
  • Improving your heart health
  • Decreasing the risk of some respiratory issues

Mariana does reformer Pilates. “POV: Stepping into the prettiest torture chamber,” she wrote across a video of herself at the studio. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Emsculpt NEO

Mariana recently got an aesthetic body treatment, Emsculpt NEO. “I’ve heard all the rage about the benefits to spot reducing fat & toning muscle so I had to give it a try to target those pesky lower abs. It was a 10/10 & a great addition to my workout routine,” she wrote.
