Nessa Barrett is trying to scare away men – in her workout gear. In a new social media post the singer shows off her amazing body in a tight workout top. “This is my annual scare all men post,” she captioned the Instagram photo. “i dropped my phone,” commented one of her followers. “ness in her betty boop moment,” added another. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

1. Eating Disorder Struggles

Nessa has battled eating disorder issues In a now-deleted Instagram post she wrote “there’s so much you don’t see,” when it comes to someone’s struggles.“i relapsed in my eating disorder and have heavily struggled with anorexia for almost a year now,” she wrote, revealing that she often felt so weak she used to collapse and even pass out from lack of food. “i have breakdowns before many shows bc i’m worried ab what to wear or how i’ll look on stage,” she shared. “i hate that i almost breakdown into tears trying to eat a meal. i hate that i can’t even look at photos or videos of my self on stage. it’s hard to even look in a mirror, my confidence has been severely damaged.” She also battled body dysmorphia, which has been “tremendously hard.”

2. Shifting Her Approach

When she finally shifted her approach, viewing food as nourishment, things began to change. “i’m so blessed and proud of myself for my current recovery journey,” she said, noting that dealing with it on tour has been “one of the hardest challenges” in her life. “it’s taken such a physical and mental toll on my body and it also makes me feel so alone.” However, it was essential. “the only way i could have done all of my shows was if i started taking care of my body and mental health,” she wrote. “i’m so glad i took the steps to do so bc this tour made me the happiest i’ve ever been in my life.” She added: “everyday on this tour i’ve tried to teach myself how much more important this music is and all of you guys are than how i feel ab my stupid body,” Barrett wrote. “what i’m trying to get at is thank u. bc i wouldn’t be able to push through this if it wasn’t for you. you give me purpose and you give me love when i hate myself. thank u for always helping me through my dark times even when u have no idea what i’m going through.”

3. Adult Coloring Books

One way she deal with anxiety is “coloring a bit too much” in her adult coloring book. She loves it over journaling “because I feel like I just do enough of that when it comes to like writing my songs,” she says. She also loves “spa days because who doesn't love a good spa?” she told Women’s Health.

4. Coffee

Nessa loves “coffee and conversation” so much that she goes to cafes for her dates, she told Vogue. According to the Cleveland Clinic, there are several benefits of drinking coffee in moderation. “It acts on your brain to improve memory, mood, reaction times, and mental function,” they say, citing a study finding that caffeine can improve endurance and performance during exercise. It is also antioxidant-rich, can ward off diabetes, prevent neurologic disease, lower cancer risk, and ward off depression, they point out.

5. Avoiding Social Media

“Since I've gotten into self care, I feel like the biggest change and the most helpful thing that I've done has been no social media,” she told Vogue. “Being a young girl, social media is kind of like a big thing and I grew up on it, and so it was hard for me to admit that it was something that I needed to let go of, but once I did, my life changed.”
