Ballet dancer Isabella Boylston stays in peak physical and mental shape by blending her passion for movement with a mindful approach to health. Recently, she shared a stunning video on Instagram of herself performing big jumps, captioning, “Fav part of class always- big jumps 💕.” From spending time in nature to embracing Pilates, Isabella’s approach to wellness highlights the balance of strength, recovery, and grace.

1. She loves nature

She enjoys spending time in nature and setting aside time to be present. “Happy National Hiking Day! I’m never happier and more at peace than when I’m out in nature with friends and family #nationalhikingday,” she said on a slideshow of photos and videos on Instagram. According to UC Davis Health, “studies also show that being in nature has a positive effect on our bodies by reducing cortisol levels, muscle tension, and demands on our cardiovascular systems (lowers heart rate and blood pressure). Being out in nature often may lead to lower rates of heart disease. The great outdoors can also help you increase your vitamin D level, which is important for your bones, blood cells, and immune system.”

2. She has support

She’s grateful for the love and support she has around her. “Today on my birthday, I’m reflecting on all the unique experiences I had this year and feeling so grateful for all the amazing support and love l’ve received from friends, family, and all of you,” she said on Instagram.

3. She challenges herself

She pushes herself and takes on challenges, especially when it comes to ballet. “I usually think whatever ballet I’m working on currently is the hardest one I’ve ever done 🤣,” she admits on Instagram, on a video of her ranking the hardest ballets that were incredibly tough routines, but worth the work.

4. She recovers

She sets aside time for her to relax and recuperate. Time to herself is important for her mental wellbeing and recovery. “Here are some ways I recover (other than just lying on the ground 😂) I collaborated with @tenoverten to create my dream bath and foot soak, The Recovery,” she said on a slideshow of photos and videos on Instagram.

5. She does pilates

She keeps her body in shape by incorporating pilates into her workouts. “Featuring my friend and Pilates teacher extraordinaire @sarahjjames,” she said on a video on Instagram of her blending pilates and ballet moves to help her prepare for her shows mentally and physically. According to Better Health, “pilates promotes mobility and strength of all the major muscle groups in the body in a balanced fashion, whilst also having a key focus on the deep core muscles. It improves posture, flexibility, strength, balance and body awareness.”
