Denise Richards in Bathing Suit Says "Happy 4th"

Here's how she stays fit.

Denise Richards in a bathing suit said "Happy 4th." Her latest photo proves the star of Starship Troopers, Wild Things, and The World Is Not Enough--not to mention the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills--has still got it. Now a mom, she has even more of an obligation to take care of her health and wellness. How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Denise Richards stays in shape and the photos that prove they work.

1. She Gets Her Steps In

Denise is always down to get moving, and walking is one of her favorite workouts. It's low impact, simple, there are amazing views throughout the area, and a little bit everyday can have big benefits on your health and wellness. Plus, it's a great activity she can do with her new husband and her children. "The average American walks 3,000 to 4,000 steps a day, or roughly 1.5 to 2 miles. It's a good idea to find out how many steps a day you walk now, as your own baseline. Then you can work up toward the goal of 10,000 steps by aiming to add 1,000 extra steps a day every two weeks," says the Mayo Clinic. "If you're already walking more than 10,000 steps a day, or if you're fairly active and trying to lose weight, you'll probably want to set your daily step goal higher."

2. She Loves To Hike

Denise really enjoys hiking through her hometown and even while on vacation with her current husband, Aaron Phypers. When the couple were hiking in Montana, Denise posted an incredible view of the landscape on her social media. It's hard to feel like you're working out when you're looking at beautiful views like that.

3. She Loves Pilates and Dance

2019 BravoCon Opening NightDimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images

Finding what works for you and your body is the hardest thing about picking a workout routine, but for Denise, she figured out fairly quickly that for her it's pilates and dance that work best. “I am very active. I found what works for my body -- everyone's body is different and I think it's best to find what works for you. For me it's Pilates and dance,” she explains.

4. She Splurges On Her Favorites

The Los Angeles Mission Legacy Of Vision Gala - ArrivalsRich Fury/Getty Images

She doesn't always say no to treats, despite her fit figure. “I do splurge on ice cream and I love pretzels. My abs get the best workout with my Pilates reformer -- I had two C-sections and it was the only thing I found that got my tummy flat,” she said. Portion control is key. “My cheat food is ice cream, but I found these tiny snack-size cones that Haagen-Dazs came out with.”

5. She Sticks To Mostly Vegetarian

HSH Prince Albert II Of Monaco Hosts 60th Anniversary Party For The Monte-Carlo TV Festival - ArrivalsGregg DeGuire/Getty Images

She tries to stay mostly vegetarian, but will indulge in some meat sometimes. “My diet is 80 percent vegetarian and I eat all day long. I have lots of little meals; it's best for me,” she said. “I found eating three big meals I felt too full and got tired especially after lunch. I eat lots of fruit, veggies, egg whites, oatmeal, a little chicken, eggs, rice -- that's mostly my diet.”

It can also be helpful in training for sports or in physical rehabilitation.”

1. She Believes Beauty and Wellness are Correlated

“As I’ve matured, I’ve realized the true correlation is between beauty and wellness,” she told W Magazine. “You don’t see that when you’re 20 years old, but as you mature, you start to realize that you can’t rely on genetics anymore, and that you must make a conscious effort in your life. It’s easy to make, it’s not like oh, I have a huge list of things I do. But I am conscious about the decisions I make for myself. And I have noticed that when I feed my body rich, plant-based nutrients, I feel better and I look better. It’s that simple.”

2. She’s Happy to Be Where She Is

"It's about embracing and no longer looking for what's wrong and really being in acceptance of everything," she said at the In goop Health summit, "Gravity is going in directions that I'm not so fond of. I can look in the mirror occasionally and say 'you're lying, I don't look like that.' but the reality is the comfort I feel in my skin is the greatest gift. I wouldn't trade it. I'm just happy to be where I am."

3. She Loves to Dance

Demi has moves. On Instagram, Demi has danced to Goldfrapp (during a photoshoot), danced with fashion designer Pierpaolo Piccioli ("Dancing the night away with @pppiccioli") and done a conga line to ring in “Happy 2020!”—plus she’s done low-impact dance aerobics with a 15-minute Mirror workout.

4. She Once Added a New Mantra

“I added into my daily prayer a new mantra: to have the courage to be seen without padding or protection,” she detailed in her new memoir, Inside Out. “I couldn’t go on fighting my body and my weight; I had to make peace,” she said. “I started by giving up hard exercise. I never went back into the gym in the house. Never. … The room it occupied is now my office.”

5. She Makes it a Family Affair

Demi has starred in Andie swimwear ads alongside her daughters. "It was important to me to include my daughters in this campaign, and I hope others seize opportunities in their lives to create meaningful connections and celebrate every moment with the people they love," she wrote, saying the campaign represented "togetherness and showing up for the people you love," so "it was only fitting that I got to share this moment with the people I love most."

1. She’s Happy to Be Where She Is

Demi's approach to life? "It's about embracing and no longer looking for what's wrong and really being in acceptance of everything. Gravity is going in directions that I'm not so fond of. I can look in the mirror occasionally and say 'you're lying, I don't look like that.' but the reality is the comfort I feel in my skin is the greatest gift. I wouldn't trade it. I'm just happy to be where I am," she told InStyle.

2. She Knows Things Change

Celebration Of Women In Cinema Gala Hosted By The Red Sea Film Festival - The 78th Venice International Film FestivalDaniele Venturelli/Getty Images

“Things do change,” Demi told W Magazine not too long ago. “The biggest difference, I think, is that I’m not in nearly as good shape physically as I have been before, and I have skin going in a direction that I would prefer it not go. There are things that just come with getting older. But I think my big mantra for this year is about acceptance. I was reading this book that was written around 1919, if I am remembering correctly, and it was very of its day. It was discussing all the ‘female’ concerns. There were some horrific suggestions on how to take care of yourself, including putting some kind of acid on your skin. But there was one thing I took away, because I think it’s true—the author said not to frown because at a certain point it will stick. And what speaks to me here is that I do believe that when we hold upset, anger, hurt, pain or bitterness, it ages us and we wear it. That isn’t to say we are always going to feel happy. But it’s important not to hold on to things.”

3. She Was Once a Workout Obsessive

Harper's Bazaar Exhibtion At Musee Des Arts Decoratifs In ParisPascal Le Segretain/Getty Images

When getting ready for certain revealing scenes in movies, “I cut out carbs, I ran, and I biked, and I worked out on every machine imaginable. I didn’t feel like I could stop exercising,” she wrote in her book. “It was my job to fit into that unforgiving military uniform I’d be wearing in two months in A Few Good Men. Getting in shape for that movie launched the obsession with working out that would consume me over the next five years. I never dared let up.”

4. She’s Used the Mirror

Tom Ford AW20 Show - ArrivalsMike Coppola/FilmMagic

Now Demi is more likely to use the Mirror, the workout device that is an actual mirror on your wall, with built-in videos that play on it. "15 min at level 1 that’s doable … right? I am stalling!" Demi wrote once in a post. "This is going to be my next jam. Okay, here I go, wish me luck."

5. She Loves Andie Swimwear

FASHION-FRANCE-WOMEN-FENDISTEPHANE DE SAKUTIN/AFP via Getty Images

"Demi was an early investor," Andie's founder and CEO, Melanie Travis, told InStyle. "We've always talked about what would make sense to do together, and then back in December of 2020 — in anticipation of a successful vaccine rollout and then what would hopefully be a great summer of friends and family, being able to travel, and get together again, across the United States — we felt like this could be the perfect summer to do a campaign together."

Sometimes I work out at my house. I’ll do some lunges, something simple like that. Otherwise I’ll go to the gym. I’ve only had one trainer in my life, and I realized that because of my dance background, I already have discipline and I don’t need to be pushed. I think I’ve saved a lot of money too. As a dancer, I’ve never put strict rules on my workout habits and sometimes I just want to go to the gym and do something light.”

5. Rita Ora Went Seaside

Hayek supports a lot of different causes. One thing that she is passionate about is protecting the environment. She shared this post on Instagram of herself playing with different animals, and talked about protecting the environment in the caption. “This #WorldEnvironmentDay makes me think extra about the future generations and all the wonderful creatures that depend on our choices and it makes me want to try harder.”

2. She’s Comfortable With Her Body

Hayek is all about body-positivity, and wearing what she wants. In an interview with Glamour, she recalled a conversation with her daughter about a revealing red-carpet look she wanted to wear. “‘But honey, you see the belly,” Hayek said. “‘You see that I have a belly. And I don’t want to be sucking it in.’ And then I said, ‘You know what? Screw that. I’m 56, everything else looks good.’”

3. She Speaks Out Against Sexism

95th Annual Academy Awards - ArrivalsMike Coppola/Getty Images

In an interview with Vogue, Hayek talked about the sexism she’s faced in Hollywood. She makes sure to speak out against these standards. "Why should we let them give us an expiration date? I think there is a lot of sexism when it comes to age. They give us a lot of deadlines that they don't have, such as [the idea that] after a certain age, you lose your beauty or nobody will want to marry you. It's incredibly unfair. I wanted to make this character, who is strong, fierce, beautiful, sexy and ready for adventure because women my age, in their mid-fifties, can still be that."

4. She Swims

"House Of Gucci" New York PremiereDimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images

Hayek loves to swim to stay in shape. She shares a bunch of posts on Instagram of herself in the water. Hayek shared these photos and one video of herself taking a swim in the ocean at sunset. She captioned the post, “Every time I need to feel renewed, I jump into the ocean.” Hayek also posted this photo of herself swimming by rock formations, captioning it, “Today is #nationalwaterday but let’s not forget any day how precious water is.”

5. She’s Present

In an interview with Marie Claire, Hayak revealed some of her secrets for building confidence. “It’s about being in the present and being alive. When you’re present you forget certain things; I’m not thinking about how old I am when I wake up. I don’t even look in the mirror. Though, sometimes when I do look in the mirror I go, ‘Oh Jesus’, or I’ll think ‘How come I’m always tired?’ and I’ll remember, ‘Ah, I’m older now’. When it dawns on me, I make the effort to connect with life again. I’m just amazed that at my age I’m still working and having the best moment of my career. At this point I’m just grateful.”

Ana Zelu is a professional model and social media influencer. She is known for her content in nature. Zelu recently shared a post on Instagram of herself on a surfboard in the ocean. She captioned it, “Yesterday was such a fun shoot, I just had to share these with you 🤍 🛥️But picture number #4?? That photobomb totally got me 😂 Which picture is your favorite ?🌊”

She Swims

As you can see from her post, Zelu likes to swim. The Mayo Clinic states that swimming has a lot of benefits. “Swimming is often touted as a great workout for all ages, offering benefits not only for the body, but also for the mind. As a form of exercise, swimming keeps your heart rate up and builds muscle strength. It also can be a great form of stress relief.”

She Doesn't Compare Herself to Others

Zelu shares a lot of her thoughts on Instagram. In this post, she talked about no longer comparing herself to others. “Dear Diary 💭📝, Today’s contemplation led me to a profound understanding of the detrimental impact comparison has on our lives. It’s like a silent intruder, subtly creeping into our thoughts and poisoning our perception of ourselves and others. It’s a universal struggle, one that weighs heavily on the hearts of many. I’ve come to realize that comparison is the ultimate thief of joy. It robs us of our ability to appreciate our own journey and achievements, as we constantly measure ourselves against an idealized version of others. I’ve resolved to break free from its grasp. We should choose to celebrate our own unique path, recognizing that each step forward is a triumph in itself. Rather than fixating on external benchmarks set by others, I’m focusing on personal growth and development. Whether it’s through learning new skills, cultivating gratitude, or simply practicing self-compassion, every effort counts.”

She Hikes

Zelu is seen on a hike in the previous Instagram post. Harvard Health states that hiking is very beneficial. “Like brisk walking, hiking is a good way to improve your cardiovascular fitness, particularly if your route includes some hills, which will force your heart to work harder. Taking a hike on the slightly uneven surface of a trail also provides a natural way to engage the core muscles in your torso and to hone your balance skills.”

She’s Resilient

Resilience is another important thing to Zelu. She talked about this in the caption of this Instagram post. “Dear Diary 💭📝, I witnessed something truly remarkable that touched my heart deeply. It’s amazing how people can go through the toughest storms in life and yet remain gentle, patient, and kind. I saw someone who faced challenges that would break most people, yet they chose to respond with grace and humility. Their ability to stay calm and compassionate in the face of adversity is nothing short of admirable. It made me realize the beauty of resilience – the strength to keep going even when life throws its hardest punches. These individuals not only endure the storms but also emerge from them with a spirit that shines brighter than before. Their example reminds me of the power of kindness and the importance of staying true to oneself, even in the darkest of times. It’s a reminder that even in the midst of chaos, there is beauty to be found 💕🫶”

She’s Accepted Herself

Zelu talked about the importance of acceptance in this Instagram post’s caption. “Dear Diary 💭📝, Today has been a rollercoaster of emotions, but amidst it all, I feel like I’ve taken a step closer to the right direction. Letting go of the past is like shedding a heavy coat I’ve been carrying for far too long. It’s not easy to release the memories, the pain, the regrets, but today, I made a choice to loosen the grip they had on me. It’s like taking a deep breath after being underwater for too long—refreshing and liberating. Forgiving myself has been a journey filled with tears and moments of self-doubt. But today, I finally understood that I deserve the same forgiveness and understanding I give to others. It’s like giving myself a warm hug, wrapping myself in kindness and acceptance.”

Penn State PRO Wellness explained, “Riding a stationary bike can help build strength in your legs and lower body, especially if you use a higher resistance. The pedaling action can help strengthen your calves, hamstrings, and quadriceps. Additionally, it can work the muscles in your core, back, and glutes. If you use a bicycle with handles, you’ll also be able to work your upper body muscles, including your biceps, triceps, and shoulders.”

She Runs

Viciconte shared this Instagram video of herself working out. In it, she is seen doing running exercises. Viciconte captioned it, “When we exercise, our body releases endorphin, a natural substance produced by the brain during and after physical activity. I always say that it's never too late to start moving, so you know that tomorrow you have no excuse 💪🏻”
