Gymnast Katelyn Ohashi in Two-Piece Workout Gear is "All Vibes"

Katelyn Ohashi, a former professional gymnast who captured global attention in 2019 with her viral floor routines, continues to lead an active and thoughtful life beyond gymnastics. Recently, she enjoyed a vacation to Tapalpa with friends, sharing moments of hiking, swimming, and laughter on Instagram. She captioned her post, “As my good friend @maliaquarles would say, all vibes, no thoughts.” Ohashi balances staying active with prioritizing hydration, mental well-being, and self-care. Her journey, including speaking out about body image and learning to listen to her body, offers a glimpse into how she maintains health and happiness in her daily life. Here’s how Katelyn approaches fitness, wellness, and balance.


1. She Swims

In her Instagram post, Ohashi is seen going for a swim. According to The Cleveland Clinic, swimming has a lot of health benefits. “Swimming isn’t just good exercise, it’s great exercise. That’s thanks to the water itself, which offers buoyancy and resistance that makes it easier on your whole body than other forms of exercise… Swimming takes much less of a toll on your body than, say, running or riding a bike. That’s because exercising in water lessens the impact of your body weight on your joints.”

2. She Hikes

Ohashi is also seen hiking in her Instagram post. Piedmont states that hiking has a lot of benefits. “Like most cardio exercises, hiking helps reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and even some cancers. Hiking is a weight-bearing exercise that builds muscle mass and helps prevent osteoporosis. Hiking can help you manage your weight. It is a joint-friendly form of exercise that can keep arthritis sufferers more limber and mobile.”

3. She Stays Hydrated

Ohashi did a campaign with Gatorade, and talked about this with Parade. She says that she makes sure to stay hydrated. “I think electrolytes are extremely important. I feel like Gatorade has a lot of them. I just think personally it tastes the best for me, and I think the messaging behind their campaign is extremely important, so they're ahead of the curve. And to have these visuals and such influential athletes with our campaign is super cool.”

4. She Takes Breaks

Ohashi talked about the importance of taking breaks when working out in her Parade interview. “When you need those water breaks, it's super important to listen to yourself and take what you need instead of pushing in such hazardous conditions with the weather. Luckily in gymnastics, I would say, it wasn't like we were in excruciating heat or anything like that, but as well with us, we do need to take those water breaks and our coaches need to be understanding of that. And I think in college I really learned the importance of that because before it was kind of like, that's water weight. Which is so bad, and you're wondering why you're cramping.”

5. She Speaks Out About Body Image

Ohashi notably retired from gymnastics due to her struggles with body image. She continues to talk about this as a way to help others who may feel the same. “I think this honestly ties into the Gatorade campaign and listening to your body for the first time,” she told Parade. “I listened to my body and I asked myself what I needed and that was not going back to elite gymnastics. My body could not take that. And so really deciding what was best for me.”
