Prior to The Bachelor, Flanagan was a lawyer. However, she revealed on an episode of the Talking It Out podcast that she decided to take a break due to health issues. “I took a back burner on law for the time being, and the reason is because I’ve been having so many health issues. Around a year ago, I realized I needed to stop everything and try to figure out what the hell is going on with me. I took a step back and did more content creating while I tried to figure out my health.”

2. She Sought Help For Her Health Issues

Flanagan revealed on Talking It Out that she was diagnosed with Lyme Disease, and wanted to get help with it. “Since fourth grade, I’ve always had weird issues like stomach issues. Then right before I went on ‘The Bachelor,’ I remember I looked nine months pregnant. I was working out for two hours a day with a trainer and I was super active, but I couldn’t figure out what was going on with my weight. After the show, I think the transition with the breakup, publicity, and the fan aspect all put a lot of stress on my body. Finally, I realized it got way worse than it was before and needed to find out what it was.”

3. She Cooks

Flanagan is an avid chef. She shares a bunch of videos on Instagram of herself making healthy foods. In this one, she is seen making a Mediterranean cucumber salad. Flanagan includes vegetables like alfalfa sprouts, onions, and olives, as well as Dijon mustard. In this video, she makes beef chili.

4. She Plays Tennis

Flanagan likes to do a lot of outdoor activities to stay in shape. One thing she does is play tennis. She shared these photos on Instagram of herself on the court. 1. She Dances

“I grew up dancing and doing musical theater in Portland, Oregon,” Katerina told the New York Times. “I tend to overintellectualize stuff, but dancing exposes my animal side. It feels good and shuts my brain off, which is helpful for my work. Acting requires having a natural reaction rooted in your character’s background, but if you’re obsessing over things or are only focused on the words, you lose the moment. The magic of dance is in letting your body react.”

2. She Swims

Katerina loves spending time in the water swimming. Swimming is a good way to get regular aerobic physical activity, according to the CDC. Just two and a half hours per week of aerobic physical activity, such as swimming, bicycling, or running, can decrease the risk of chronic illnesses. In addition to the many physical benefits, there are multiple studies supporting the mental health benefits of swimming as well.

3. She Hikes

Katerina also loves to hike. “A reminder that New York is pretty,” she captioned a post. “Hiking is one of the best ways to get exercise. No matter what type of trail you find yourself on, hiking is a great whole-body workout—from head to toe and everything in between,” says the National Parks Service. Some of the physical benefits include building stronger muscles and bones, improving your sense of balance, improving your heart health, and decreasing the risk of certain respiratory problems. It also offers many mental health benefits, according to a Stanford University study.

4. She Rides Horses

Katerina loves horses. According to the American Heart Association, riding horses is great for your health. Not only does it boost cardiovascular health, but builds core strength, burns calories, and lowers blood pressure. It is also great for your mental health as it helps relax you.

5. She Does “Free Form” Dancing

“I don’t do a traditional ballet warm-up or anything; it’s free-form. I’ve been listening to MSC and Björk, both of which are varied and emotive. I like to dance to reggaeton,” she told the New York Times. Dancing is a great workout for many reasons. Not only does it build strength and promote flexibility, but helps you lose weight and even promotes cardiovascular function. A 2016 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine determined that people who engaged in moderate-intensity dancing were 46 percent less likely to develop heart disease or die from it than non-dancers. In comparison, moderate-intensity walkers were just 25 percent less likely to suffer heart health issues.

These also help to trigger a positive feeling in the body which can have a positive impact on your happiness and mental wellbeing. This can help to combat feelings of anxiety and depression.”

She Prioritizes Safety

Andrade talked about her training approach in an interview with the Olympics website. She says that she and her coach prioritize her safety, and that she will skip floor sessions if she isn’t able to do it. "I talk a lot with my coach and we trust in each other. We always try to be really safe, and do floor in the correct moments. He believes in me. I'm never going to lie to not do it. So, when I really tell him that I can't do it, it's because I cannot and he always respects that.”

She Sets Goals

In her Olympics website interview, Andrade talked about her commitment and goal setting. Specifically, she talked about her goal to make the Olympic team. “The other [goal], which is the main one, is for us to qualify as a team,” Andrade said. “I think it will be very important for me, for my team, and the focus is on that, whatever happens there, the result is a consequence of our work, of our commitment. But I really want to be there with my team and be happy and healthy.”

She Cooks

Andrade makes sure to eat healthy. She also likes to cook a lot of her own meals. She shared some of her favorite things to make in an interview with NPR. “There was one that was with potatoes and cheese, chicken. There’s cake. There’s cookies. A lot of things.”

"I mean, to be honest, I haven't worn a crop top in years, and I literally feel comfortable going out in a crop top, which is so bizarre," she says. She Does Leg Workouts

McNamara tells Women’s Health that she doesn’t skip leg day. "I know most people hate leg day, but I kinda love it. It's what makes me feel strongest." Piedmont says that leg workouts are extremely important. “Having strong glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings and calf muscles gives your body a strong foundation and can: Tone your lower body muscles. Boost your metabolism as you increase muscle mass. Give you a higher calorie burn as you train larger muscle groups. Improve your balance.”

She Does HIIT

While on Shadowhunters, McNamara did a lot of HIIT. "In order to do the fight scenes, I needed a lot of upper body strength because I would be holding weapons all day," she says to Women’s Health. "High intensity interval training turned out to be the perfect thing for me. I was able to keep up my cardio stamina and build upon that so I could do the fight scenes, which are basically just sprints."

She Consistent

McNamara tells Women’s Health that she makes sure to stay consistent with her workouts. “There were days when I was tired. There were days when the last thing I wanted to do was pick up a weight...but I just had to physically get myself there—to take a deep breath and remember why I was doing it and why I was there. I think that can go for any kind of physical goal that someone has—half the battle is the mental battle.”
