Sarah Kustok is a trailblazer in sports broadcasting, known for being the first woman to serve as a full-time color commentator for the Brooklyn Nets. But her talents aren’t limited to courtside analysis—she’s also dedicated to staying active and maintaining her fitness. In September, Kustok shared highlights from a Gatorade flag football event on Instagram, showcasing her athletic side. She captioned the post, “Turn me up,” reflecting her enthusiasm and competitive spirit. Here’s how Kustok stays fit and healthy through sports and training.
She Plays Flag Football
Kustok is seen playing flag football in her Instagram post. The sport has a lot of health benefits. Back To The Roots states, “Flag football is an excellent way to stay in shape and improve overall physical fitness. It requires players to run, jump, and perform various physical activities that help build endurance, strength, and agility.”
She Uses An Agility Ladder

Kustok is also seen using an agility ladder to workout in her Instagram post. Agility training has a lot of health benefits. Kingdom Running Club states that using a ladder can boost, “Multi-planar coordination. Boost heart rate and blood flow throughout the body. Increase mind-body connection: In order to train these skills cones and ladders are used to acquire our bodies’ awareness. When we are executing agility drills we are cutting and curving with our bodies. The coordination and body awareness you will gain from ladder training will transfer into improved running speed and mechanics.”
She Plays Basketball
Kustok doesn’t just report on basketball, she likes to play it. Kustok shared this post on Instagram of herself shooting some hoops. Basketball has a lot of health benefits. According to Fitness Advisory, “Basketball requires you to jump while playing, as well as running back and forth multiple times. In a basketball game, you rely on your body positioning and the ability to maintain that position when an opponent is pushing against you. This is why playing basketball can strengthen all parts of your body, especially your core muscles, neck, lower back, and arms.”
She Plays Soccer
Another sport that Kustok enjoys playing is soccer. She shared this post on Instagram of herself on the field. Kustok captioned it, “TOO MUCH FUN⚽️ I know what I’m gonna be playing all summer.. Huge thanks to @nycfc & @patrickvieraofficial for an incredible day !!”
She Wants People To See Her Talent
In an interview on the Road Trippin podcast, Kustok opened up about getting her job with the Brooklyn Nets. She says that she wants people to know that she’s a talented reporter, and didn’t get the job because of her sex. “I’m psyched. It’s incredible. …The opportunity to call games, this is not work. It’s a dream to get to do. You talk about being a female — I don’t always love the attention on that. I just want to show up and do my job and be a part of a team. It’s the opportunity to still be part of a team and have that adrenaline rush. It’s an incredible thing.”
