Affleck worked with personal trainer Walter Norton Jr., with whom he worked in the past for movies such as The Town. That mutual history helped when it came to adopting a new fitness regimen, Norton said.

He works out hard but takes care not to injure himself, Norton said. “We did what we needed to do to take care of him and protect his joints,” he added.

Affleck also worked with California-based nutritionist Rehan Jalali, who is known for his “six-pack” diet regimen that includes oatmeal, leafy greens and whole grains. The diet also includes lean protein (salmon, egg whites, turkey) and supplements such as protein powders and a non-steroidal muscle enhancer.
