Competitive swimmer and olympian from Hong Kong, Siobhán Haughey is a strong athlete. On a photo on Instagram, she said “traded a swim cap for a crown 👑I always love racing, but it was the people that made the past three weeks so fun and enjoyable. This week especially I felt how lucky I am to be surrounded by the right people who spoil me with cakes 🎂 and make my crazy ideas a reality 🐼Thank you @world_aquatics for having me on this wonderful World Cup tour.” Here’s what she does to stay strong and fit.
1. She finds balance
Her overall wellness goal involves focusing on finding balance and peace. “How do you achieve balance for your mind, body, and soul? I’ve always believed that ultimate wellness is all about balance. To maintain my performance in the pool, I spend time taking care of my life outside of it too. Baking, hanging out with family and friends, reading, taking a nap, meditating … these are a few things I like to do 👩🏻🍳📖😴🧘🏻♀️,” she said on Instagram on a video of her discussing her wellness journey.
2. She can be goofy
She has fun with life, all part of her finding balance. Even when she has to work, she can still add some lightheartedness. “When you have to work on your birthday but luckily it’s Halloween,” she said on Instagram, on a series of photos and videos of her dressed as a panda bear.
3. She’s positive
She’s grateful for the experiences she has and good training days. “Soul full of sunshine ☀️💙Had a nice training block in Turkey 🇹🇷 before we start racing again,” she said on Instagram on a series of photos of her training and swimming with a big smile on her face. According to the Mayo Clinic, “positive thinking helps with stress management and can even improve your health.”
4. She has support
She’s grateful for all the love and support she receives. “Feeling soooo loved 🥰🥰 I am extremely grateful for everyone who came out to my meet and greet yesterday. I really enjoyed talking to you guys and hearing your stories and answering your thoughtful questions. I’m so glad I got to spend my Sunday with you all 💙 Special thanks to @cathaypacific for making this happen,” she said on Instagram on a series of photos of her connecting with her community.
5. She has her team
She’s happy to have her team of people she can depend on. “It takes a village. Swimming, like life, is a team sport. Yes you stand alone behind the blocks, but your success depends on your coaches, your teammates, your team, and your family. I’m incredibly grateful for all those who have stood by my side through the highs and lows. Their support, encouragement, and unrelenting belief in me are the foundations to my achievements. And now, we get to celebrate our success together! Thank you to my village and my city,” she said on Instagram on a series of photos of her hugging her teammates.
