Pilates

"I know you've probably been wondering what a morning in the life of a @thechallenge contestant looks like. #grwm as I prep for a season, follow my simple steps & one day you too could have a meltdown on national television," she captioned a post. "Step 1: workout – apparently this is a non negotiable." Her workout of choice? Pilates. "Every day starts with a workout. Training never stops," she added. Why is pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic there are lots of benefits to the workout, as it "strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility resulting in improved overall health." It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, relief from stress and back pain, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Reading

"Step 2: expand the mind (often overlooked by challengers)," she continued in the caption. One of her favorite brainy activities? "Reading," she reveals. One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years compared with people who weren't readers or who read periodicals.

Swimming

Michele enjoys swimming laps. Here she is at an Equinox rooftop pool. "pretty cool 🥶," she captioned the post. Swimming is a good way to get regular aerobic physical activity, according to the CDC. Just two and a half hours per week of aerobic physical activity, such as swimming, bicycling, or running, can decrease the risk of chronic illnesses. In addition to the many physical benefits, there are multiple studies supporting the mental health benefits of swimming as well.

Hydration

In her Instagram video she also reveals that hydration is key. According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is important for a variety of reasons. Water helps get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.

Surfing

In her recent post, Michele poses with her surfboard. According to the Australian government's Better Health, surfing provides many health benefits including cardiovascular fitness from paddling, shoulder and back strength, which also strengthens from the paddling, and leg and core strength. "Once you're standing up on the board, strong legs and a strong core will keep you up," they say.
