Post Malone, who is known for his chart-topping hits and signature musical style, revealed his inspiring weight-loss transformation that proves you don't need fad diets to slim down. While many turn to quick-fix diets, Post's weight-loss journey has been one involving simple and sustainable changes that fit his lifestyle, like cutting out sugary drinks, making healthier food choices, and staying motivated for the long haul.

Read on to learn how Malone shed 55 pounds (dropping from 240 to 185 pounds) and reclaimed his health—and how you can do the same.

He Kicked Soda to the Curb

In a previous episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Post (or "Posty," as he's affectionately referred to by fans) shared that soda was a major factor in his weight struggles. "Soda is so bad. It's so good, but so bad," he said, describing how he realized just how much it was impacting his health. This simple habit shift allowed him to shed pounds, feel better, and focus more on living a long, healthy life for his daughter.

Nicole Davis, CPT, a certified personal trainer at Garage Gym Reviews, says making small changes like this can have a huge impact. "The key is finding a routine that feels doable long-term. Stick to mostly whole, nutrient-dense foods, keep portions in check, and aim for a small calorie deficit—nothing drastic," she explains.

Fatherhood Transformed His Mindset

Post's decision to focus on his health and weight loss came after the birth of his daughter in May 2022.

In an emotional Instagram post from April 2023, Malone shared that fatherhood had motivated him to make long-term changes when it came to his health, writing, "I guess dad life kicked in and I decided to kick soda and start eating better so I can be around for a long time for this little angel."

He Ate Better

Eating a balanced diet rich in whole foods (and cutting down on junk food and sodas) helped Post maintain a healthy, realistic approach to weight loss that allows him to enjoy the foods he likes without feeling deprived.

"The first step, I remember I went on tour, and I was like, you know what? I'm gonna eat grilled chicken, I'm gonna eat carrots, and I'm gonna have a little bit of white rice every night," Post previously shared with radio host Howard Stern, per Men's Health. He also ditched a lot of fried foods and pizza.

According to experts, Post's focus on healthier food choices rather than restrictive dieting is a sustainable way to lose weight and keep it off. "Fad diets rely on extreme rules that are usually not sustainable long-term," explains Stephen Sheehan, CPT, a certified personal trainer at BarBend. "A balanced approach helps focus on nutrition and portion control instead of temporary fixes that often leave you frustrated and are tempting to break."
