Rebel Wilson is an actress. She’s known for her roles in the Pitch Perfect franchise, Isn’t It Romantic?, and Bridesmaids. Wilson notably lost a lot of weight, and shared the workout she did to do so on her Instagram story. In it, she pulled a weighted bar while doing a twist. Wilson captioned the post, “For some reason I have to do the sound effects!” How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Rebel Wilson stays in shape and the photos that prove they work.

1. She Keeps Her Skincare Simple

Wilson has amazing skin, and she makes sure to take care of it. She shared her routine in an interview with WhoWhatWear. “You know, I used to do more steps, but normally in the morning, I just cleanse with something simple, like Dermalogica’s UltraCalming Cleanser ($39). I also love the SK-II products because I’m in London, and it’s a bit dry. I love their Eye Cream ($139), Serum ($245), and Moisturizer ($235).”

2. She Wears Sunscreen

Wilson makes sure to protect her skin from the sun. She tells WhoWhatWear that she makes sure to wear sunscreen every day. “And then I’ll always apply Dermalogica's Sunscreen With SPF 50 ($75) because I’m so fair, but I love being out in the sun. Wearing sunscreen every single day is something that's kind of been ingrained in me as an Australian.”

3. She Stretches

Wilson tells WhoWhatWear that she likes to stretch in the mornings. “If I can, I also really like to exercise in the morning, it just kind of gets me going, and stretching is also great. I’m always worried about getting injuries since I do quite a lot of physical stuff for my job, so I’m all about injury prevention—stretching out my legs and my back and just kind of making sure everything is feeling good before work.”

4. She Changed Her Eating Habits

Wilson told WhoWhatWear about how she changed her eating habits. “The biggest difference, and the reason why these other changes really started to work for me last year, was tackling emotional eating—it’s my biggest vice. Before this transformation, I would come home and maybe eat a whole pizza or a whole pint of Ben & Jerry’s, and I just really used food to comfort myself after a long day. There were some behavioral patterns that I really had to change and analyze. I haven’t completely solved the issue, it’s still there, it’s just something that I can manage a lot better now. I think everyone has vices and it’s really hard—you can’t exactly cure yourself of them, but you can try your best to manage them. I’ve been working with a doctor to understand that more, and it’s an interesting process. You learn a lot about yourself, and it’s emotional, but I think that’s hopefully going to be the key to my long-term success.”

5. She Walks

Rebel.Wilson.5Rebel Wilson/Instagram

Wilson did a lot of walking to help her get in shape. “An Austrian doctor said 'Rebel, the best way for you to lose unwanted body fat is just simply walking,” she said to Apple Fitness+. “‘Doesn't have to be high-intensity, doesn't have to be uphill, just moderate walking an hour a day. ‘And if you can do that, for you, for your body type, it's, like, the best way to lose unwanted body fat.'"

Wilson tells Apple Fitness+ that she does workouts that are easy on her. “I would train at the gym, you know even when I was at my heaviest, like hardcore and do weights and do things where you just feel absolutely exhausted afterwards, and I didn't actually need to be doing that. It just made me think: 'OK I should take it a bit easier on myself, and just do it gently and do it lightly.'”

"Don't just jump in your car, like even if it's Uber or whatever it is, think of different ways to get to your destination. Maybe it's a walk. I think that's a great thing as well because I'm a big believer that #45Daily, so include 45 minutes into your day where you are moving."

5. She Does A Variety Of Workouts

Castano broke down Wilson’s typical workouts to E! News. He says that he made sure to do different things with Wilson. “A typical week will look like this—Day 1: HIIT and mobility, Day 2: weights and resistance, Day 3: HIIT, Day 4: HIIT, Day 5: HIIT and weights, Day 6: rest period, Day 7: HIIT. We focus on plenty of HIIT circuits, but at the same time, focusing on technique and tempo. And understanding that each exercise is vital when working at a quick capacity. Another element we focused on was resistance and mobility training to ensure we're covering all areas, including posture.”

6. She Eats More Protein

In addition to working out, Wilson changed her diet. She shared some of the changes she made in an interview with People. “So, I've really changed to eating a high-protein diet, which is challenging because I didn't used to eat a lot of meat. I eat fish, salmon, and chicken breast.”

Wilson tells People that she believes in eating a balanced diet. "I'm just trying to go for overall balance, overall healthy balance," she says. "I have this state of being, which is not my quote, but I go 'Nothing is forbidden.' We’ll be like, 'Should we get In-N-Out burger?' And I'm like, 'Nothing is forbidden.' I can go there, I just might eat half of what I used to eat before. You know? And I'll have a burger, and a few fries, and then you feel fine."

Rebel Wilson has been incredibly forthright about how she lost 100 pounds and got into the best shape of her life. The Australian actress posted a gorgeous sunny snap of herself on the beach in a bright pink one-piece swimsuit and black shorts, playing with her long blonde hair. “Throwback Thursday: Rebel Island 🏝,” the 42-year-old captioned the Instagram post. 1. She Worked On Her Mental Health

Wilson understood she had to approach her weight loss holistically—and that meant addressing why she was overweight in the first place. "I think because I approached it from all areas ... the biggest thing that I haven't ever worked on was the emotional side, what I suffered from, I guess, as classical emotional eating … so I really worked on that side," she told Extra.

2. She Loves To Walk

Celebrity Sightings In New York City - May 05, 2022Raymond Hall/GC Images via Getty Images

Wilson is a big fan of “just walking.” "I got all these high-tech tests done on me during my year of health," Wilson said. "They said that walking was actually the best way for me to lose unnecessary body fat." “Walking can be as good as a workout, if not better, than running,” says Dr. Matt Tanneberg, CSCS, a sports Chiropractor and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist in Phoenix, Arizona who works with elite athletes. “You hear of people 'plateauing' when they continue to do the same workout routine and stop seeing results. I see patients all the time that plateau from running, they will run the same distance, speed and time, day in and day out. You need to constantly be switching up your exercise routine in order to get the maximum benefit for your health.”

3. She Embraces Her Curves

Netflix Senior Year Special ScreeningVivien Killilea/Getty Images

Wilson makes it clear her weight-loss goal was never about being “skinny”—it was about her health and happiness. "My goal was never to be skinny," she told PEOPLE. "I don't focus too much on the numbers. I still look like me. I love being curvy and I'm still super curvy but just a healthier version. That was my goal. I just try to encourage everyone to be the healthiest version of themselves. That doesn't necessarily mean being smaller in size, it just just means not engaging in unhealthy behaviors. I like to think I look good at all sizes."

4. She Practices Moderation

Wilson says her now-healthy relationship with food is crucial to maintaining her new weight. "I would numb myself with food," she says. "I was traveling the world and I had a hectic lifestyle and my way of dealing with the pressure sometimes was eating ice cream and brownies, but at the end of the day, I wasn't treating myself with love. I'll have dessert once or twice a week now. It's just not an everyday thing, Having a sweet tooth will always be my vice, but online shopping has crept up a bit!"

5. She’s Planning For a Family

Celebration For Apple TV+'s "Severance" - ArrivalsAmanda Edwards/WireImage

Wilson’s visit to a fertility doctor brought home the importance of weight loss if she wanted to have a family. "[The doctor] looked me up and down and said, 'You'd do much better if you were healthier,' " she says. "I was taken aback. I thought, 'Oh God, this's guy's so rude.' He was right. I was carrying around a lot of excess weight. It's almost like I didn't think of my own needs. I thought of a future child's needs that really inspired me to get healthier. Any woman who's gone through it, I really relate to. It's been an emotional rollercoaster. I don't know how it's going to end. But I'm still young enough to try."

6. She Has Personal Trainers

"The Deb" World Premiere - ArrivalsBrendon Thorne/Getty Images

Wilson has personal trainers on hand to keep her accountable. "I’m in a lucky position ... I do have access to really amazing personal trainers but I want you guys to know that the majority of the exercise that I’ve done this year has just been me going out for a walk," she says. "That is free, you can do it, it’s safe. I know it’s getting colder…but just give it a go. If you can do an hour — that’s what I like to do when I go walking — it is the best. Just get your body moving."

7. She Doesn’t Obsess Over the Scale

Operation Smile's 10th Annual Park City Ski Challenge Presented By The St. Regis Deer Valley & Deer Valley ResortAlex Goodlett/Getty Images

Wilson refuses to let weight fluctuations derail her health journey. “I just noticed I put on 3 kgs on my holiday. I’m at an amazing all-inclusive resort…I’ve lost all self-control,” she captioned an Instagram post. “But, you know what? I can get up tomorrow, and go to the gym, and hydrate, and eat healthy, and love myself. It doesn’t help to be hard on yourself but I know what it’s like to feel guilty and not great after eating too much. But if you’re like me just know YOU are more than just your weight, your weight doesn’t define you, just try your best to be healthy and don’t be so hard on yourself 💗 Be the best version of you 💗.”

Rebel Wilson’s total health transformation is one of the most inspiring of the decade. The Pitch Perfect star, who first declared she was on a mission to become the healthiest version of herself possible in early 2020, initially dropped 60 pounds in less than a year. And, according to the actress during a July 26 Instagram Live , she is now down "like 70 pounds, 75 pounds, maybe a bit more." This weekend, the star celebrated her belated 41st birthday by showing off her fit figure during a tropical birthday bash, looking incredibly svelte and happy. How exactly did the actress shed all that weight? Read on to see 7 ways Rebel Wilson lost 75 pounds and the photos that prove they work—and to get beach-ready yourself, don't miss these essential 30 Best-Ever Celebrity Bikini Photos!

1. She Focused On Getting Healthier, Not Losing Weight

Rebel kept her focus on health, not the number on the scale. “To me what the year of health was, was just being a healthier version,” she recently explained to Jamila Rizvi on The Weekend Briefing per Yahoo Australia. She also noted that she was motivated by improving her fertility and also curbing emotional eating. “It wasn't about losing a set amount of weight, although I did put a goal originally of 75 kilos so I could have something tangible to work towards. But it's not about a number or a dress size, or anything like that.'It was just about being the healthiest version of me and I dedicated all of 2020 to doing that, and I'm proud of myself,” she said.

2. She Kept Herself Accountable

Bootsy Bellows At SoFi Stadium's Opening DayVivien Killilea/Getty Images

While she admits she did “annoy some people” by regularly posting about her health journey on social media, Rebel claims it helped keep her accountable. “I feel really good within myself and I like to celebrate the journey,” she explained. “And also, why I did it publicly was for accountability as well, because it’s all good and well just having a little experiment and if you don’t tell people about it you could just easily fail, whereas if I tell the whole world on social media, then that's pretty good motivation.”

3. She Understands That Self-Confidence Shouldn’t Come with a Clothing Size

While Rebel is proud of her journey, she told The Weekend Briefing that it hasn’t impacted her self-esteem. “I think people are beautiful in all different sizes, and I would feel just as confident rocking my size 16 dress as I do now. I’m about a size 8 now,” she said. “I loved being bigger and it never stopped me from achieving anything in my life.”

4. Sleep and Hydration Are Key

Aachen,,Germany,,April,26,,2017:,Studioshot,Of,A,Bottle,FijiShutterstock

During her Q&A, Rebel revealed a few of her health secrets. "Adequate sleep, walking, hydrating, [and] drinking water," she said. "You'll always see me with a FIJI [water] in my hand, and balance it with the nutrition," she said.

5. She Approaches Health From the Inside Out

Rebel understands that health has as much to do with the mind as it does the body. “I think because I approached it from all areas ... the biggest thing that I haven't ever worked on was the emotional side, what I suffered from, I guess, as classical emotional eating … so I really worked on that side," she told Extra about her weight loss.

6. She Found a Diet Plan That Worked For Her

Rebel relied on the Mayr Method as a blueprint for her weight loss. The star has stayed at their clinic, VivaMayr, a few times, detoxing via spa treatments, mental health sessions, and undergoing diet and fitness revamps. One of the major changes she has made? Reducing gluten and dairy, eating high alkaline foods like veggies and fish and altering her dietary approach—including when and how she eats.

7. She Prioritizes Fitness

Rebel knows that exercise is a fundamental component of overall health. "This week was super busy but I got up super early 3 times (6am 😜) and went on a hike...even did a couple of 100m sprints to get the heart rate even higher (although my 'sprint' is probably someone else's 'slow jog' 😝) but I felt proud of myself and now only 3kg's away from my goal weight!" she wrote on Instagram.

Sydney has been water skiing since she was a toddler. “The moment I could walk, my mom put me on what’s called a U-board to learn how to ski,” she told Women’s Health. “I remember that whenever we would go by the docks of my grandma’s or my cousin’s house, I’d wave. I felt so cool because I could take off one hand. That’s my earliest memory of skiing, but I’ve been doing it as long as I can remember. It’s my favorite.” How does it help her achieve her amazing body? “It’s a lot of upper body strength, it’s balance, it’s core, it’s legs—you get tired really fast,” she says. “I see such a change in my body after an entire summer of [skiing]. My arms are stronger, more sculpted. My abs are rock solid. But I never look at it as a workout because it is so much fun,” she said.

Morning Workouts

Sydney mixes up her exercise routine, but likes to get workouts over with early in the day. “I like to work out in the morning, so I’ll either go for a run or I’ll go to Solidcore,” says Sydney. The high-intensity, low-impact Pilates-inspired workout “makes me feel so strong, but also elongated,” Sydney said about her sweat sessions. “I feel so good afterwards.”

Self-Care

Sydney engages in self-care activities. “I love to paint, and I love to read,” she said. “Those are the activities that are just for me.” One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years than those who weren't readers or who read periodicals.

She Walks and Hikes

One of the ways she treats her anxiety is by spending time outdoors with her dog, Tank. She takes him on walks or hikes. Going for a daily walk can be a game changer, especially at a brisk speed. One study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day reduced the risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia, and death, compared with walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.

Strength Training

Mariana relies on old-school strength training to keep her body toned. “Training till failure instead of reps + taking my ab routine up a notch by incorporating weighted exercises,” she wrote about one of her workout tactics. “I can feel my muscles being challenged and am in tune with my movements.” According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Other healthy habits? “Prioritizing digestion,” she writes in the same post. “Making sure I get enough fiber & starting off every morning with a juice cleanse. This has helped me feel so much better everyday.” She also gets regular blood work done. “So important to check your levels and know what’s going on in your body routinely! Don’t skip the doc apts, always better to be preventative.”

Hiking

Mariana enjoys hiking. “Elevation therapy,” she captioned a post from one of her fitness adventures. According to the National Parks Service, the physical benefits of hiking include:

  • Building stronger muscles and bones
  • Improving your sense of balance
  • Improving your heart health
  • Decreasing the risk of some respiratory issues

Mariana does reformer Pilates. “POV: Stepping into the prettiest torture chamber,” she wrote across a video of herself at the studio. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Emsculpt NEO

Mariana recently got an aesthetic body treatment, Emsculpt NEO. “I’ve heard all the rage about the benefits to spot reducing fat & toning muscle so I had to give it a try to target those pesky lower abs. It was a 10/10 & a great addition to my workout routine,” she wrote.
