Shanti Lowry is an actress and dancer. She appeared as a dancer for Earth, Wind, and Fire, as well as in the film Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. Lowry’s acting roles include The Game, Code Black, and Bronx SIU, which earned her two Daytime Emmy Nominations. Lowry appeared in Muscle and Fitness recently, and shared highlights from her shoot and interview on Instagram. In them, she wore a black two-piece set of workout gear. Lowry captioned the post, “It’s a lifestyle.” How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Shanti Lowry stays in shape and the photos that prove they work.

1. She Does CrossFit

Lowry is a big fan of CrossFit. She opened up about this in her interview with Muscle and Fitness. “I did what we call open workouts in CrossFit (often including as many reps as possible in a given timeframe), to the point where I got T-Rex arms. You know, you can’t reach anything, and that to me was the same idea as someone waking up and not understanding why everything hurts. Why does it hurt to breathe? Why does it hurt to reach for something?”

2. She Dances

Lowry naturally loves to dance to stay in shape. She still teaches classes and shares a lot of dance videos on Instagram. Better Health reports, “Dancing can be a way to stay fit for people of all ages, shapes and sizes. It has a wide range of physical and mental benefits including: Improved condition of your heart and lungs. Increased muscular strength, endurance and motor fitness. Increased aerobic fitness. Improved muscle tone and strength. Weight management.”

3. She Stretches

Lowry makes sure to stretch. She shared this video on Instagram of herself doing stretches for her Muscle and Fitness interview. The Mayo Clinic reports that stretching has a lot of benefits. “Research has shown that stretching can help improve flexibility, and, as a result, the range of motion of your joints. Better flexibility may: Improve your performance in physical activities. Decrease your risk of injuries. Help your joints move through their full range of motion. Increase muscle blood flow. Enable your muscles to work most effectively. Improve your ability to do daily activities.”

4. She Does Squats

After having a baby, Lowry hit the gym to lose the pregnancy weight. She shared some of the exercises she did in this video on Instagram. In it, Lowry is seen doing squats. She captioned the post, “Check out my - just had a baby and lost my fat azzz workout.” The Mayo Clinic reports that squats have a lot of benefits. “The squat is a body resistance exercise that works the leg muscles. Specifically, the squat targets the quadriceps and the hamstring muscles. Strengthening these muscles can help protect your knees and boost your performance in a variety of sports.”

5. She Strength Trains

Lowry likes to strength train to stay in shape. In the previous Instagram video, she is seen holding a barbell while she does squats. The Mayo Clinic reports that using weights to workout has a lot of benefits. “Strength training may enhance your quality of life and improve your ability to do everyday activities. Strength training can also protect your joints from injury. Building muscle also can contribute to better balance and may reduce your risk of falls. This can help you maintain independence as you age.”
