Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson East successfully pulled off a viral challenge with Andrew East. East, 32, shared a video of herself wearing black shorts and a blue shirt, holding on to her husband for dear life as he lifts her high up against the wall, and then safely lowering her down again. “A little smoother than our last one 😅#marriage #coupleschallenge #couples,” she captioned the post. East may not be competing but her hands are full with three children. Here’s how she stays fit, healthy, and happy.

1. Mom On the Go

East keeps busy looking after her children. “We'll jump on the trampoline or go for bike rides,” she told Parade. “For any other busy moms out there: Allow yourself to be a kid and know that's also a workout. Going for a bike ride, playing in the driveway, jumping rope. As adults, we live with this mindset that if we don’t go on the treadmill we're not working out. That's not the case.”

2. Advice For New Moms

East has good advice for first-time moms. “Nothing goes to plan, and motherhood is a journey full of surprises,” she told New Beauty. “Take each day as it comes and be patient and kind to yourself. Every journey is different, so do what makes YOU feel best. Oh… and ask for help when you need it. It takes a village, mama!”

3. Clean Skin

East never skips her SPF. “I really love the feeling of really clean skin,” she told New Beauty. “After a day racing around when your skin feels dirty, giving it a thorough scrub is so therapeutic. Massaging it into the skin gives me a moment to stop and reset and remove any grime from the day. There is nothing better than when your skin feels clean and has that post-scrub glow! Having said that, SPF is such an important step that it really should also get a mention.”

4. Everything In Moderation

East believes in moderation when it comes to health and fitness. “I think we live in a world of extremes, especially when it comes to the health and food industry,” she told Parade. “It’s not sustainable. Even working with nutritionists when I was competing—they were like, 'Let’s be real, you’re 13. You’re going to eat ice cream and chocolate. You can indulge and have fun. Everything in moderation.' Whether it's athletics, working out or nutrition, 'everything in moderation' is still a great thing to remember.”

5. Mixing It Up

East loves to mix up her workouts and keep it fun. “I went through rollercoasters of trends. I did HIIT workouts during gymnastics. After I retired, I felt like there was this trend where everyone said you had to run to lose weight, and I very quickly learned that was false," she told Parade. "Intervals and changing up your routine and your workouts is really fun. I went full circle and went back to the gymnastics mentality. I do everything now and it keeps everything stimulating and exciting."

Taylor Williamson is competing at the Rogue Invitational in her workout gear. In a new social media post the Crossfirt athlete shows off her amazing body in a two-piece exercise set while getting her sweat on. “Day 2 underway,” she captioned the series of Instagram snaps. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

1. Running

Taylor runs indoors and outdoors. Here she is running on a curved treadmill. According to the Mayo Clinic, running is great for cardiovascular health, muscle building, and weight loss. “For every mile run, the average person will burn approximately 100 calories,” they say.

2. Cycling

Taylor also rides bikes. “What’s something you really enjoy doing but also kind of suck at???” she captioned a photo of herself mountainbiking. She also rides the airbike during her workouts. The Cleveland Clinic explains that biking, a low-impact aerobic exercise, is great for building muscle, improving strength and flexibility, and improving balance. It can also boost mental health and help other health conditions, including arthritis.

3. Jump Roping

Taylor does jump roping workouts. “Hippity hop,” she wrote in the caption of a post, revealing her workout that consisted of 5 rounds of 100 double unders and 100’ hsw (50’/50’). “Not only can the repetitive movement of skipping rope elevate your heart rate, work muscles in the arms and legs and burn calories, it may even provide a quick jolt of joy,” says Nike.

4. Her “Upper Body Pump” Workout

She also shared her upper body workout. “Gotta love a good upper body pump!” she captioned the post. “How fast do you dare to go on the wall walks!?” Here are the exercises she did:

  • 500m ski
  • 15 wall walks
  • 500m ski
  • 100’ hsw

5. Challenging Herself

Taylor challenges herself daily. “How do you eat an elephant? 🐘One bite at a time…,” she captioned a post. “I truly believe in the importance of challenge on a daily basis. Keep a sharp mind, keep a strong body.”

Shaughna Phillips In Workout Gear Jokes About Being “Fitfluencer”

Love Island star Shaughna Phillips is slowly but surely getting back into her fitness routine after welcoming baby Lucia in April 2023—and being honest about postpartum recovery. Phillips, 29, shared a video of herself wearing leggings and a white shirt, mixing up a protein shake in her kitchen after a workout of skipping and star jumps. “Changing my bio to ‘fitfluencer’, having 7 protein shakes a day and getting GYM BRO tatted on my bicep,” she jokingly captioned the post. Here’s how the reality star stays fit and full of energy.

1. Love Island Training

Shaughna.Phillips:InstagramShaughna Phillips/Instagram

Phillips went on a very strict health and fitness regimen before going on Love Island, working out for 90 minutes a day. “I would do 20 to 25 minutes on the treadmill very fast at a high incline,” she told Women’s Health. “I would do a few sets on the lat pulldown machine... and then I used to do a quick circuit on the mats. I used to use like free weights and stuff and that would literally be it every single day.”

2. Holistic Health

Phillips works out to protect her mental health as well as her physical health and appearance. “As I've gotten older, I've realized that separating being healthy from your body image, and how you ‘think you should look’, is the true gamechanger,” she told Bustle. “I feel like a lot of us just subconsciously go to the gym because we think we need to look a certain way. But there are so many other benefits; looks should be the lowest thing on your list of reasons to go to the gym… Don't get me wrong, the health benefits and all of that are absolutely amazing. But for me personally, it is all about the effect physical activity has on mental health.”

3. Morning Workouts

Phillips works out first thing in the morning before the work day starts. “I can tell you what I hate doing and that’s squats,” she told Bustle. “But I really like the feeling of lifting weights and boxing. It almost doesn't feel like you're working out because you're learning something new. I read somewhere that music also gives you the same sort of endorphins as exercise does. I can't think of anything worse than working out and having rubbish music. Or worse: no music at all. I need to listen to angry music, like DMX. Or if I'm going on holiday, then I’ll listen to happy vibe music.”

4. Plans For the Future

Phillips wants to move in a different direction in the future. “I definitely want to maybe get into some kind of politics after the show,” she told Glamour. “I just like helping people and I want to do as much as I can to help people. For me, it’s not really about how much a job pays you, because it’s about helping people. I know that’s cliché and embarrassing, but the job I was in before in the fire safety team, the job previous to that was more money, so... I got a better feeling out of the fire safety team. For me, it’s all about helping people."

5. Embracing Her Physique

Phillips wishes she hadn’t been so hard on herself in the past. “I was aware that I was definitely the biggest girl in there [the villa] but watching old episodes back now, I'm like ‘you looked fab!’” she told Women’s Health. “But that is just proof that you're never happy with what you've got, so you might as well just be happy with what you've got. I was self-conscious but I had no reason to be.”

Dancing With the Stars champion Jenna Johnson is taking some much-needed “me time” to get a good workout in at a fitness studio—and take some selfies of course! Johnson, 30, who is married to fellow DWTS mainstay Val Chmerkovskiy, shared pictures from a hot Pilates studio, wearing black shorts and a matching crop top. Johnson and Chmerkovskiy welcomed their son in January 2023—here’s how the dancer stays fit and strong with enough energy to juggle work and family.

1. Dancing Workouts

Johnson wishes more people would take dance classes as part of their workout routines. “I think people are so nervous to try an actual dance class because maybe they don’t have the right technique or they’re at a certain level, but I think anyone should dance and should try it,” she told PEOPLE. “You’re challenging your mind as well as your body and it’s engaging a lot of different muscles that you wouldn’t necessarily use on the treadmill or the elliptical… Salsa is a Latin dance and it’s great for stamina and cardio. There’s a lot of movement in the core area and so I feel like it’s awesome for sculpting your obliques and your back and just getting that area moving in general. Jive for me always gets me panting and burning the most.”

2. Cardio and Crunches

Johnson works out right after she gets up for the day. “I typically work out six days a week and give myself Sundays off to rest and recover,” she told New Beauty. “I incline walk/run on the treadmill for 40 minutes and then walk the stairmaster on level 10 for another 10 minutes. My body needs cardio, so I try to sweat as much as possible. After my cardio, I do three sets of 20 push-ups and then 100 crunches on a medicine ball. I don’t like to use weights (I use my own body weight instead) because I don’t want to bulk! But that’s my own body’s routine and mentality. Find out what works for you and stick to it so it eventually becomes habit!”

3. Lots of Protein

Protein is important for Johnson—she usually has scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast. Dinner is usually fish, steak, or chicken not too close to bedtime. “For lunch, it’s really important to incorporate leafy greens so I’ll always try to have a salad of some sort with either chicken or some turkey or quinoa and then I love to snack on carrots and hummus, I love pretzels even,” she told PEOPLE. “I feel like they kind of expand in my stomach and keep me a bit more full.”

4. Kombucha, Not Coffee

Homemade,Fermented,Raw,Kombucha,Tea,With,Different,Flavorings.,Healthy,NaturalShutterstock

Johnson is mindful of sugar and caffeine. “I will definitely treat myself to a sweet treat or dessert, but I am aware that excessive amounts of it are not good for my body,” she told New Beauty. “I don’t drink coffee or mounds of caffeine. I’ve learned that my body needs to sip on something throughout the day and I’ve found kombucha is my life saver—it’s insanely loaded with probiotics and benefits for my body. Obviously everything in moderation, but try substituting your caffeine intake so you don’t find yourself shutting down during your day.”

5. Positive Mindset

Jenna.JohnsonJenna Johnson/Instagram

Johnson encourages keeping a positive mindset on any fitness journey. “If you’ve been working really hard to stay strict with your nutrition and been hitting the gym often, reward yourself with positivity,” she told New Beauty. “It’s hard not to judge yourself if you don’t see results immediately. It’s a process, but a process that is worth the wait.”

David Beckham is showing off his pushup game — shirtless, of course. In a new Instagram video the football legend shows off her famously fit body while perfectly executing pushups. “998, 999, 1000,” he captioned the video. Aside from pushups, how does the sports star approach fitness? Celebwell has all the details.

1. Most People Struggle to Do Push Ups

Push Ups are one of the most common exercises, but many people struggle to do a few of them – let alone 1,000! One recent survey found that most Americans can’t complete five in a row, and over half the 1,400 people included on the survey admitted they can't complete 10 push-ups in a row.

2. Beckham Does a Push Up with a Pair of Dumbbells

In Beckham’s clip he perfectly demonstrates how to do a push up, using a pair of dumbbells, which helps him stay in a neutral position and keeps him grounded.

3. After He Retired, He Adapted His Workouts

“I could never keep up with the level of the workouts I was doing when I was playing professional football,” Beckham confessed to Men's Health in 2022. “And obviously, I’m getting older now as well... I need to train with people. I’m not very good at training on my own, so I need to be motivated by people in a community environment.”

4. He Created His Own “DB45” Workout

You can pump it like Beckham with his DB45 workout. In an Instagram video he does elevated split squats, box jumps, running in place, and more. "Got to create my own workout with @gunnarfitness for @f45_training, can't wait for you all to try it (raised hands emoji),” he captioned it. "It's obviously tailored to what I used to do in my career, some of the exercises," Beckham told The Associated Press, adding, "We never tailor anything to any specific sport or athlete because our community is not about athletes. Yes, there's some people that are ex-athletes that come into F45, but this is not a workout designed only for elite athletes." It involves 11 stations, each one being football-themed, including "midfield" stations that work on agility and "defenders" stations targeting functional resistance training.

5. Hiking

Beckham also stays active with his family by hiking. “Hiking is one of the best ways to get exercise. No matter what type of trail you find yourself on, hiking is a great whole-body workout—from head to toe and everything in between,” says the National Parks Service. Some of the physical benefits include building stronger muscles and bones, improving your sense of balance, improving your heart health, and decreasing the risk of certain respiratory problems. It also offers many mental health benefits, according to a Stanford University study.

Sophie Guidolin Shares Workout Routine

We are committed to bringing you researched, expert-driven content to help you make more informed decisions around food, health, and wellness. We know how important making choices about your overall health is, and we strive to provide you with the best information possible.

Sophie Guidolin is a fitness expert and IFBB competitor. She shares a lot of her favorite workouts on her Instagram. In a recent video, she is seen doing pull-ups and RDLs with a barbell. Guidolin captioned the post, “Your self-worth comes on the backside of doing the work. Are you proud of your actions, when no one is looking? Do you say what you say you’re going to do?”

She Does Pull-Ups

Guidolin is seen doing pull-ups in her Instagram video. According to Gymless, this exercise has a lot of benefits. “Pull-ups can give size and strength to your upper body muscles. It allows you to target your lats, biceps, traps, and many more muscles. Practicing this consistently along with other variations that target different muscle groups, inevitably will give you the muscular aesthetics that you’re seeking. A study emphasized this by suggesting that this close kinetic chain exercise is designed to increase the muscular strength and endurance of the upper body and torso.”

She Lifts Weights

Guidolin is seen using weights to workout in her Instagram video. ACE Fitness states that these exercises have a lot of benefits. “Using heavy weights increases intramuscular coordination, the number of type II motor units and the amount of muscle fibers engaged within a specific muscle. Have you ever felt your muscles shaking while lifting heavy weights? This is because you are recruiting and activating the larger type II muscle fibers, which are only stimulated to work when a muscle is challenged with heavy resistance or working to fatigue.”

She Does RDLs

Sophie Guidolin does RDLs.

Guidolin is seen doing RDLs with a weight in her Instagram video. NASM states that the exercise is very beneficial. “A Romanian deadlift is a hip-hinge pattern that works the hamstrings and glutes. It is a form of deadlift with noticeably less bend in the knee, leading to greater hamstring engagement than traditional deadlifts.”

She Braces Her Core

Guidolin flaunts her abs

Sophia Goulding/Instagram

Guidolin has an impressive core. She shared her secrets behind it in the caption of this Instagram video. Guidolin revealed that she doesn’t do traditional core workouts, but braces her muscles when she lifts weights. “You’ve probably heard the advice: ‘Breathe in as you lower the weight and breathe out as you lift.’ But when it comes to heavy lifting, people don’t always do that. Instead, I focus on BRACING my core: ➡️ Take a deep breath, tighten your core, and hold your breath as you lift. After the lift, exhale quickly, take another breath, and repeat. This comes naturally - think about how you instinctively hold your breath and brace when lifting something heavy at home. Bracing is especially helpful for big compound lifts, like squats and deadlifts. It’s also great for bodyweight exercises like push-ups and planks, helping you stay strong, stable, and in control. Observe your bracing and see what kind of difference it makes. 🫶”

She Does Squats

Sophie Guidolin does squats

Guidolin likes to do squats to keep herself in shape. She shared this video on Instagram of herself doing them with a barbell. Guidolin captioned the post, “First time under a the bar low bar in a low time and heaviest/highest volume back squatting since 2019. Felt easy. Flew up. Tried not to over commit to the goal and stuck to my numbers. I had 27 minutes exactly to train. 🫣🤯🥵yes, 27 minutes. 👀 school holidays and the twins in my care means I never want to impact my time with them, so this is what had to be done…

That included: 6 sets low bar back squats. 3 sets hip thrusts 150kgs, mind you 🥵👀. Adductor machine. Lying leg curl. Cable pull throughs. And hit my numbers on every single set, meaning I am either taking the piss normally, or dragging my feet. No excuses, just awareness. I seem to perform better under pain, that all too familiar pattern bias is strong 🥵👀🥺 My goals this year scare me, but not as much as failing. 🫶🏼✔️ go all in.”

Abby Dowse is looking fit and slim in her workout dress. In a new social media post the model flaunts her assets while getting her steps in, wearing a super tight exercise outfit. She shared the clip via her Instagram Stories, also sharing a photo of her breakfast: A bagel sandwich and coffee. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

Strength Training

Abby Dowse trains in the gym

Abby spends lots of time at the gym strength training with a personal trainer. Her routine includes squats, lunges, rows, planks, and lifting heavy weights. She regularly shares workouts in her Instagram Stories and has a tab devoted to them. According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Jump Roping

Abby Dowse is seen jumping rope

She also jump ropes. “My type of cardio,” she captioned an Instagram Story clip. “Not only can the repetitive movement of skipping rope elevate your heart rate, work muscles in the arms and legs and burn calories, it may even provide a quick jolt of joy,” says Nike.

Biking

Abby Dowse rides a stationary bike

In another Instagram Stories clip, she cycles on a stationary bike. The Cleveland Clinic explains that biking, a low-impact aerobic exercise, is excellent for building muscle, improving strength and flexibility, and improving balance. It can also boost mental health and help other health conditions, including arthritis

Coffee

Abby enjoys the perks of caffeine. She loves coffee. According to the Cleveland Clinic, drinking coffee in moderation has several benefits. “It acts on your brain to improve memory, mood, reaction times, and mental function,” they say, citing a study finding that caffeine can improve endurance and performance during exercise. It is also antioxidant-rich, can ward off diabetes, prevent neurologic disease, lower cancer risk, and ward off depression, they point out.

Sauna

Abby is all about the heat. She enjoys hot saunas. “Sauna got me good 💦😅💯,” she captioned a post. Should you take a dry sauna? While some claim the health benefits of saunas are plentiful, including detoxification, increased metabolism, weight loss, increased blood circulation, pain reduction, antiaging, skin rejuvenation, improved cardiovascular function, improved immune function, improved sleep, stress management, and relaxation, there isn’t a lot of research backing up the claims.

Either way, you know that the actress, model, and TV host is stunning and has a gravity-defying body. How does she keep herself physically fit at 30? Here is everything you need to know about her diet, fitness, and self-care approach.

She Exercises For 30 Minutes Per Day

Antje makes sure to move daily, but “Every day is different!” she told Women Fitness about her approach to exercise. “That’s my favorite part about my life. It keeps it interesting and keeps me on my feet. Some things I do keep in my everyday routine are my workouts. I make sure I hit the gym or do some type of physical activity every day, even if it’s just for 30 minutes.”

Strength Training

Strength training is Antje’s go-to workout. “I lift weights 4 or 5 days a week. I focus on one or two muscle groups at a time and make sure to alternate them so they have time to recover throughout the week,” she says. “I lift for about an hour.” According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Walking on an Incline and Running Intervals

Antje Utgaard stops by the REVOLVE Festival

Vivien Killilea/Getty Images

Antje gets a lot of use out of the treadmill. “Before I lift I warm up by walking at an incline for 5-10 minutes,” she says. “And I always end my workout with running in intervals for 5-10 minutes.” Walking on an incline burns more calories than walking fast or even running on a flat surface, so many experts suggest upping your incline. A 2013 study even found that walking on a 2 to 7 percent incline increased heart rate by almost 10 percent compared to running on a flat surface.

SoulCycle

Another workout she loves? Cycling. “I also Soul Cycle 3 times a week, which is my new obsession,” she revealed. The Cleveland Clinic explains that biking, a low-impact aerobic exercise, is excellent for building muscle, improving strength and flexibility, and improving balance. It can also boost mental health and help other health conditions, including arthritis.

A "Laid Back" Diet and Hydration

“My diet is pretty laid back. If I have something big coming up I’ll obviously be more strict on myself but it’s also hard when you have my lifestyle and travel a lot. I try to eat as healthy as I can on a regular basis though. I always make sure to eat a lot of protein, mainly chicken and other lean meats. I also make sure to drink plenty of water!” she told Women Fitness. Why should you focus your meals around protein? According to clinical trials, consuming more protein than the recommended dietary allowance not only reduces body weight (BW), but also enhances body composition by decreasing fat mass while preserving fat-free mass (FFM) in both low-calorie and standard-calorie diets.
