Sofia Vergara’s 7 Exercises to Stay in Bombshell Shape at 52

Here are the Modern Family star’s go-to workouts.

At 52 Sofia Vergara looks better than women half her age. The Colombian-American actress has made it no secret that, unlike some other Hollywood stars, working out is not her passion. “My workout motto is really simple: No pain, no cake!” she once told Shape magazine. How does the star keep her body fit and healthy? Here are the Modern Family actress’ go-to workouts and exercises.

Pilates

“My go-to workout is a Pilates workout on the Lagree Fitness Megaformer machine,” she told Glamour. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress, and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.”

Personal Trainer Sessions

Vergara has “a very nice gym in the house, so I don't have any excuses," she told Women’s Health. However, "it's like torture” for her. "I'm in a bad mood two hours before, I'm in a bad mood while I'm doing it, I'm in a bad mood at the end because I have to schedule the next class," she confessed. “We work out at least five times a week for 50 minutes to an hour, depending on her schedule,” her trainer Jennifer Yates, founder of Studio Metamorphosis, told People. “She’s dedicated!”

Lots of Glute Exercises

“She loves working the [glutes],” Yates told People. “We do a lot of squats and deadlifts and a lunges [on the machine], and we do a lot of things off the machine as well. Recently we’ve been combining some of the heavier weights for the lower body because she’s trying to put a little more mass on, so we’ve been doing a lot of work with kettle bells. She’s really strong!”

Using “Heavier” Weights

Sofia Vergara is radiant in red

“Speaking of squats, ladies, don’t be afraid to lift weights. It won’t make you bulky, so get that out of your head! Actually, using heavier weights will accentuate all your curves. Toning the shoulders makes your waist look smaller, weighted squats lift and tone your booty, and adding a kettlebell to your ab routine will give you a stronger, flatter midsection – fast! Plus, when you lift a little heavier, you don’t have to do as many reps to see results. That means you don’t need to spend as much time in the gym… and that makes me very happy!” Sofia told People.

Dance Cardio

Sofia Vergara adds a bit of sparkle to the red carpet

Amanda Edwards/Getty Images

“Treadmills and ellipticals get boring fast. And if you’re dreading your cardio time, suddenly 20 minutes feels like two hours – no thanks. I love finding creative new ways to get my heart rate up that don’t involve running or spinning. Dance cardio classes are my current obsession, because there’s nothing better than turning up the music and just letting everything go,” she told People. But really, making cardio easier to knock out is more about finding something you really love. Whether it’s surfing, biking or jumping on trampolines, do something you enjoy. When you have fun during workouts, it’s a lot easier to commit to doing them – and they don’t feel like work.”

Spin Classes

Vergara also loves to cycle. "I also mix in spinning classes for cardio a couple of times per week," she told Glamour. The Cleveland Clinic explains that biking, a low-impact aerobic exercise, is great for building muscle, improving strength and flexibility, and improving balance. It can also boost mental health and help other health conditions, including arthritis.

Yoga

Sofía also gets her zenon with yoga. “Morning yoga in paradise,” she captioned a photo. There is a laundry list of reasons to do yoga, explains Harvard Health. “Researchers found that people who practiced yoga for at least 30 minutes once a week for at least four years, gained less weight during middle adulthood,” they said. “People who were overweight actually lost weight. Overall, those who practiced yoga had lower body mass indexes (BMIs) compared with those who did not practice yoga. Researchers attributed this to mindfulness. Mindful eating can lead to a more positive relationship with food and eating.”

Vergara’s personal trainer, Gunnar Perterson, broke down the actress’ workout to Shape. Peterson says that he likes to do a lot of large movements with Vergara, as opposed to smaller isolated movements. “If we're going to do a lunge, we're probably going to add an upper body component to it, like a lunge with a wood chop, a side lunge with a wood chop, or a rear lunge with a
lateral raise, or a forward lunge with a front raise."

2. She Loves Pilates

Amy Sussman/Getty Images

Vergara tells Glamour that she is a big fan of doing Pilates workouts, and tries to squeeze in a session as often as she can. “My go-to workout is a Pilates workout on the Lagree Fitness Megaformer machine,” she says. Pilates works. “Pilates mat exercises contributed to increase in the strength and endurance of core muscles in post delivered women and even improve the fitness of women by improvement in cardiorespiratory fitness and decrease in the girth measurements,” one study found.

3. She Goes To Spin Classes

Amy Sussman/Getty Images

In addition to Pilates, Vergara also loves to go to spin classes regularly. Vergara says that the classes are her regular cardio. She says to Glamour, “I also mix in spinning classes for cardio a couple of times per week.” One study found that indoor cycling combined with a healthy diet was beneficial. “According to the results, the indoor cycling and the low-calorie diet helped fight overweight and control serum lipids.”

4. She Takes A Break From Working Out

Amy Sussman/Wireimage

Vergara’s trainer, Jennifer Yates, tells Marie Claire, that she makes sure that the actress takes a few days off from working out. Yates says, "It's fine to give yourself a break—your body comes back stronger. You have to let your body rest, even if you're working out a few days during the week. That's why we rotate with Sofía. We have days in between when she rests. If you exhaust the muscles, you're more prone to getting injured."

5. She Believes In Moderation

Vergara is a big fan of moderation when it comes to her diet. "We have a lot of healthy things, but we keep a balance," she says to SELF. "I do have a lot of fruits and vegetables, and we cook fresh meats. But I also have ice cream and dessert and we do that during the weekend. I try to control myself during the week." “Is it a challenge for you to eat all five servings of fruits and vegetables every day? The 1-2-3 approach can help you pack in all your servings — and more — throughout the day,” says the Mayo Clinic. “Get six servings by eating:

  • 1 serving with breakfast
  • 2 with lunch
  • 3 with dinner and snacks.”

Bianca Bustamante is revving up her engine in 2025 – in her workout gear. In a new social media post, the racecar driver reveals she is taking “the next major step” in her physical journey as a race driver “and I’ve set the target high!” she says in a new Instagram post, filled with video clips of herself lifting heavy weights at the gym. “Never been more motivated in my life, it’s not physically easy for a girl in this sport, but I’m super excited to take on this new challenge and the next big step on my racing journey,” she added. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here are her top lifestyle tips.

Lifting Weights

Bianca spends hours at the gym where she focuses on strength training along with endurance, cardio, reaction time, and reflexes. “You know, to be a driver, it’s a complete package. It takes strength. It takes mental fortitude. It takes reflexes, smart thinking, and survival skills,” she told MEGA Active. “Sometimes it's for the body, sometimes it's for the mind. Nothing more peaceful than early sessions,” she captioned an Instagram post of one of her sessions.

Double Down On Training

In her recent post, Bianca reveals that she working extra hard at the gym. “I’ve been working hard over the years to build a solid foundation, but in 2025, I’ll be working with @j_w_90 and I’m doubling down on my training. Increasing to two workouts a day not just on lifts but aerobic endurance, as well as a better focus on nutrition and rest, in order to raise the bar to compete in the higher formulas,” she said.

Fueling Your Body With Protein

Bianca makes sure to eat enough protein in order to build more muscle and stay as lean as possible to meet the weight requirement. “It’s been a really cool journey seeing my body develop and transform into this whole different person I never knew I could become,” she said. Limited research supports the benefits of cold plunges, which may include easing sore muscles, bringing body temperature down, increasing focus, improving sleep, and decreasing inflammation, per the Cleveland Clinic. However, a 2021 study found that cold water immersion therapy promotes post-sport recovery.

Working On Self-Esteem

Positive self-talk is also important. “Of course, I put a lot of pressure on myself, but in the end, I always tell myself that as long as I give my best and I learn from it, any mistake I make is valid,” Bianca explained. “I always try to repeat that to myself that I am valid. I’m here for a reason and there’s nothing I would rather do than be here.”

Brenda Perlaza is flaunting her fantastic figure in a tiny bikini. In a new social media post the influencer, who calls herself La Barbie Negra, looks flawless as she poses on the beach in a neon yellow swimsuit. “#viral,” she captioned the series of Instagram snaps. “Wow Wow,” one of her followers commented, while several others added fire emojis. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

Jogging

Brenda enjoys jogging. According to the Mayo Clinic, running is great for cardiovascular health, muscle building, and weight loss. “For every mile run, the average person will burn approximately 100 calories,” they say.

Walking Her Dog

She also takes her dog on long walks. Going for a daily walk can be a game changer, especially at a brisk speed. One study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day reduced the risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia, and death, compared with walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.

Dancing

You can also find Brenda dancing to burn calories. Dancing is an excellent workout for many reasons. It builds strength and promotes flexibility, helps you lose weight, and even promotes cardiovascular function. A 2016 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine determined that people who engaged in moderate-intensity dancing were 46 percent less likely to develop or die from heart disease than non-dancers. In comparison, moderate-intensity walkers were just 25 percent less likely to suffer heart health issues

Swimming

Brenda spends a lot of time in her swimsuit so it isn’t surprising she loves to swim. According to the CDC, swimming is a good way to get regular aerobic physical activity. Just two and a half hours per week of aerobic physical activity, such as swimming, bicycling, or running, can decrease the risk of chronic illnesses. In addition to the many physical benefits, multiple studies support the mental health benefits of swimming.

Hydration

Finally, Brenda hydrates, especially after a long workout or sun exposure. According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is essential for various reasons. Water helps eliminate waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature regular, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.

She Supports Animals

Romani has her own charity, Help Miami Cats. She talked about how she started this in the caption of this Instagram post. “❤️ Guys!!!! I have always loved cats and had many growing up. When I moved to Miami Beach I met a great calico named Chacha and learnt that cats were brought to the city by Mayor Lummus … against rodents. Cats rely on volunteers for their food and water and there’s a huge amount of them. There’s a city program to Spay and neuter with the wonderful @sobecats ladies and the feeding is made official by a City Sanctioned badge, yet new cats keep getting dumped daily sadly and there’s a never ending amount of work, emergencies and so on. I was on a feeding rotation but during the pandemic I was left alone caring for so many as people left town or couldn’t afford feeding anymore …I decided to start my own non profit @helpmiamicats . We feed close to 200 and when Batman got paralyzed took him and other special needs cats under my care … @stevensachs69 with the cat room and the amazing people involved devote their lives to these special souls … My life has changed a lot too … way less spare time, way more sweat and tears and lost the person I had by my side who had sadly other priorities … yet gained so much love from these lovely creatures !!! If you can please get involved in any way … follow @helpmiamicats , share, volunteer, adopt … donate … Only together we can make their world a better place !!! And yes … just me feeding the kitties and talking to them … 🤷🏻♀️👀😆❤️🙌”
