Padma Lakshmi is rollerblading in her swimsuit. In a new social media host the Taste the Nation star shows off her amazing body in a yellow bathing suit top and jeans shorts while wheeling around with a Hulu cameraman. “Just a little BTS dump to let you know that @natgeotv will be airing a mini-marathon of Taste the Nation on December 24th, revisiting our friends from Miami, Las Vegas, Appalachia and Washington DC. Whether you’re wrapping last minute presents for under the tree, wrapping tamales for Nochebuena, or just cuddling up with your loved ones, tune in on Sunday!” she captioned the series of snaps. How does the 53-year-old manage to look half her age? Celebwell rounded up her top lifestyle habits.

1. Daily Exercise

Los,Angeles,-,Jun,12:,Padma,Lakshmi,Arrives,For,TheShutterstock

Padma exercises five times a week for 90 minutes. She spends about 35 minutes doing cardio, like jumping rope for 2,000 strokes) and then adds strength training (lifting weights, classic squats, lunges, and dumbbell curls) two or three times a week. “He’s there to watch my form, and he spends most of his time telling me not to do something,” she told Women’s Health about her trainer Tony. Sometimes she will do even more cardio – 30 minutes on the elliptical, treadmill, or slide board.

2. Boxing

Padma,Lakshmi,Wearing,Dress,By,Marchesa,Attends,2023,Time100,GalaShutterstock

Padma also spends an hour boxing. "Light sparring is good for the soul," she captioned a post of her workout. "This kind of boxing has many health benefits, because it constantly requires you to think, change your position, and change your posture," physical therapist Linda Arslanian, director of rehabilitation services at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's hospital tells Harvard Health."You're swinging your arms, moving the muscles of your arms and shoulders, increasing your upper-body strength. And when you're in the boxer crouch with a wide stance, with your knees slightly bent, you're strengthening your core muscles, back, and legs.”

3. Pilates

Los,Angeles,-,Sep,9:,Padma,Lakshmi,At,The,2018Shutterstock

Padma is a big fan of pilates. “I started going to Pilates a few years ago, because my chiropractor recommended it for my back,” she told Women’s Health. “Pilates changed my body. It made me strong in places I didn’t know I needed to be. I have a butt now that I didn’t have during my modeling career!”

4. Breakfast

Padma doesn’t skip breakfast. She starts her day with a healthy meal of slices or chunks of papaya with dahi (Indian yogurt) topped with a small drizzle of spicy maple syrup and a sprinkle of cinnamon. "I have to eat in the morning before my workout because I won't make it through my workout if I don't," she told Eating Well.

5. Dairy-Rich Diet

Greek,Yogurt,In,Blue,Bowl,On,Black,Table,Top,View.Shutterstock

You won’t find Padma on a dairy-free diet. "I guess I eat a lot of yogurt," Lakshmi told Eating Well. "It helps calm my tummy with spicy food. It also just makes me feel good. I think it's nice to have a little bit with every meal, or most meals, if you can."

6. Cheat Meals

"When I'm not in the mood for cooking, but when I'm in LA, I will enjoy a burger," Padma told Mashed about her go-to cheat meal. There are two places she will go. "It's not just anywhere," Lakshmi revealed. "It's either In-N-Out, but I also like Astro Burger's garden burger, the one on Santa Monica Boulevard, not the one on Melrose."Her order? Extra pickles and no onions. "You can tell I'm a burger geek when I'm in LA."

7. Plate Splitting

Padma has a helpful trick to avoid overeating: She splits her plate into halves. She fills the first up with 50 percent fruits and vegetables. The remaining half is for simple carbs, starch, and lean protein, she dished to Women’s Health.

8. Detoxes

Padma gains up to 17 pounds every season of Top Chef after gorging on high calorie foods. To get back to normal she does a postseason food detox. “It’s no sweets, no red meat, no wheat, no alcohol, no fried food, no dairy except for cottage cheese or low-fat yogurt. But this is a milder version—like, I can fall off the wagon one day a week,” she told Health.

Professional golf player Anisha Padukone is enjoying a vacation in one of her favorite places on earth—the Maldives. Padukone shared a picture of herself looking blissfully happy in a black and white halter-neck swimsuit, posing in turquoise waters. “My happy place 😎,” she captioned the post. How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Padukone stays in shape and the photos that prove they work—and to get beach-ready yourself, don't miss these essential 30 Best-Ever Celebrity Bathing Suit Photos!

1. Ocean Lover

Padukone enjoys swimming and snorkeling. “Unlike many other forms of cardio, swimming uses a wide range of muscles,” according to the experts at Wake Forest University. “In addition to toning your whole body, swimming builds both strength and endurance.”

2. Snacking on Pistachios

Padukone loves indulging in a bowl of pistachios for a healthy snack. Nuts are shown to have protective benefits against cholesterol and insulin resistance, experts say. “Frequent nut consumption is associated with a lower risk of developing high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and cancer,” says Tufts University.

3. Trekking and Hiking

Padukone is passionate about the beauty of nature, and loves hiking. “Hiking involves something many other forms of exercise don’t: trails,” says Jill Suttie, Psy.D. “That means it requires navigating in a world that’s not totally predictable. Slippery dirt, overhanging branches and hidden obstacles, trail markers, and wild animals crossing your path—all of the things you might encounter on a trail require micro- and macro-adjustments to your route, which is good for your brain.”

4. Pizza For Lunch

Padukone enjoys pizza, which can be adapted to be a healthy option depending on toppings and ingredients. Loading up on vegetables and lean proteins is a good way to make pizza more nutritious. “Most pizza shops offer a variety of choices for crusts and toppings that can help keep your pizza healthy and still delicious,” says Fawziah Saleh, RDN, LD. “Don’t be afraid to ask!”

5. Dosa Meals

Padukone loves the traditional Indian dish of dosa, a thin pancake made of lentils and rice. “Lentils have been around for ages, but it’s taken a while for us to realize how powerful they are for our bodies,” says dietitian Elyse Homan, RD. “They aren’t just a cheap alternative to meat anymore. They can be the foundation for a variety of meals and make a real difference to your health.”

1. She Uses Honey On Her Skin

Jar,Of,Honey,With,Chamomile,Flowers,On,Wooden,TableShutterstock

Lakshmi has amazing skin. She shared some of her favorite products in an interview with Byrdie. “The biggest thing for skin, and it doesn't cost a lot of money, is honey,” Lakshmi says. “When I used to travel and I didn't have a lot of money, I would always find honey on the breakfast tray at a hotel or something. You just wash and cleanse your skin, take all the makeup off, pat your skin dry, and then slather honey all over your face, avoiding the delicate eye area. And then you just tap your fingers on your face, almost like you're playing piano on your skin. And what that does is pull out the impurities in your pores without upsetting the pH balance.”

2. She Uses Tea Tree Oil

Celebrity Sightings In Los Angeles - May 1, 2023Hollywood To You/Star Max/GC Images via Getty Images

Lakshmi tells Byrdie that she also likes to use tea tree oil. “Get a little bottle and keep it with your other skincare. You know, when I'm doing Top Chef, I'm putting on TV makeup every day, and all day they're adding powder, so my skin can get clogged and I can break out. So I always just ask for a big bowl of boiling water (you can just make it with a kettle), and I put five or six drops of tea tree oil in that boiling water. Then I take a big towel, put it over my head, and I steam my face. Just like you'd do with Vicks VapoRub if you had a cold. And it can sting—even the steam can sting your lips sometimes. But it's really good because it gets that antiseptic in there gently.”

3. She Eats A Plant-Based Diet

2023 TIME100 GalaPatrick McMullan via Getty Images

Lakshmi opened up about her diet in an interview with Into The Gloss. She says that she eats a mostly plant-based diet, and limits that amount of meat in her diet. “I’ve actually gone back to eating a lot like I ate when I was a child,” she says. “Which is really mostly plant-based. Once in a while some bacon or veal, but mostly it’s just poultry and fish. A lot of lentils, a lot of beans—50% of my diet is fruits and vegetables.”

4. She Has Fruits & Veggies With Every Meal

PadmaLakshmiPadma Lakshmi/Instagram

Lakshmi tells Into The Gloss that she eats a lot of fruits and vegetables. She says that she makes sure to eat them with every meal. “For breakfast today, I had a big bowl of pomegranate, and then I had a big bowl of avocado,” she explains. “I had one egg, and one piece of sourdough toast. So, there is protein and starch, but it’s mostly fruit and vegetables. I try to do that every meal. Like, last night we had spaghetti pie for dinner—it was a very decadent evening! But I made sure that we had a salad, too. Regardless, I think that if you make a point to have 50% fruits and vegetables, then it’s easier. And eat those first—the order you eat your food matters, not just what you eat.”

5. She Does A Variety Of Workouts

Padma-LakshmiPadma Lakshmi/Instagram

Lakshmi also shared some of her favorite exercises in her Into The Gloss interview. She says that she likes to do a variety of workouts. “I do everything,” she says. “If I think it’ll help, I do it. I box, I jump rope, I do calisthenics—old-school pushups, and mountain climbers, and sit ups. Things you can do on the floor without any help.”

In one, she did a glamour shot on the beach, looking gorgeous. Lakshmi captioned the post, “New mantra from Lizzo: I’m way too fine to be this stressed. Words for all to live by!” How does she stay so fit? 1. She Works Out Reguarly

Lakshmi has to eat a lot more food than most people, since she’s the host of both Top Chef and Taste The Nation. Naturally, she has to work out a lot more than most people. "Honestly, the secret is just living in the gym," she says to E! News. "I spend a lot of time working out. I work out at least five or six days a week for one or two hours a day. I have to, because I'm working with food. I have two TV shows that both require me to eat a ton of food."

2. She Focuses On Her Fitness, Rather Than Her Diet

When it comes to her diet, Lakshmi doesn’t restrict herself. She tells E! News that she focuses on working out more, rather than what she eats. She says that this is a healthier mindset for her to have. "It just takes a lot of hard work, but I'd rather eat more food that I enjoy and just put more time in in the gym, than starve myself because that's not healthy, and I'm not capable of that anyways."

3. She Cooks

Global Citizen Live, New YorkNoam Galai/Getty Images

Lakshmi is a cookbook author and likes to make a lot of her own meals. She tells Women’s Health that she eats a lot of her own cooking. “We cook one fresh meal a day in our home, and that’s usually dinner,” she says. “I purposely cook extra so I will have enough for lunch.”

4. She Does Pilates

One of Lakshmi’s favorite ways to workout is doing Pilates. “I started going to Pilates a few years ago, because my chiropractor recommended it for my back,” she says to Women’s Health. “Pilates changed my body. It made me strong in places I didn’t know I needed to be. I have a" backside"now that I didn’t have during my modeling career!”

5. She Loves Honey On Her Skin

For Lakshmi, honey isn’t just a treat, it’s a skincare tool. She tells Byrdie that she uses honey on her skin, and has been doing this for a long time. “When I used to travel and I didn't have a lot of money, I would always find honey on the breakfast tray at a hotel or something. You just wash and cleanse your skin, take all the makeup off, pat your skin dry, and then slather honey all over your face, avoiding the delicate eye area. Padma Lakshmi recently celebrated her birthday, and she did so by sharing a stunning photo on Instagram. In it, Lakshmi posed in a brown swimsuit with puka shells on it, from her recent shoot with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. Lakshmi captioned the photo, “This year I was so blessed, with family and friends who were there for me, cradled me, uplifted me, made me laugh, and reminded me of how rich a life we can live- if we are open to change. I won’t say it’s been all roses, there have been moments of serious anxiety, insecurity and just feeling lost and low. But then even in those moments, I realized there was a benefit to be had. A muscle to be strengthened. My heart is open and I am so very grateful. What a glorious year of growth and gratitude. These pics were of course a milestone, but just the tip of the iceberg. I love you all for being here with me, thank you for following along. I really like your company.” How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Padma Lakshmi stays in shape and the photos that prove they work.

1. She Boxes

Los,Angeles,-,Jun,12:,Padma,Lakshmi,Arrives,For,TheShutterstock

Lakshmi shared one of her go-to workouts in an interview with People. “I've been boxing for over 20 years on and off when my joints permit,” she says. “I love boxing. I mean, as much as boxing has helped me physically, it's done way more for me mentally. And I highly recommend it for anyone who's looking to feel more grounded, more focused and more in their body, as well as have more clarity.”

2. She Works Out On A Regular Basis

Padma,Lakshmi,Wearing,Dress,By,Marchesa,Attends,2023,Time100,GalaShutterstock

Lakshmi’s job is to eat food. Naturally, she has to do a lot of working out to combat this. She opened up about her fitness regime to E! News. "Honestly, the secret is just living in the gym. I spend a lot of time working out. I work out at least five or six days a week for one or two hours a day. I have to, because I'm working with food. I have two TV shows that both require me to eat a ton of food."

3. She Takes Care Of Her Skin

New,York,,Ny,-,February,7,,2019:,Padma,Lakshmi,WearingShutterstock

Lakshmi has amazing skin, and she makes sure to take care of it. She tells Into The Gloss that she uses a lot of organic products. “If I’m retaining water, or if I have a big shoot coming up and I want to slim down, I use topical diuretics, which are available at any health food store. I also just use plain old honey in the shower to draw out any impurities in my face. It’s antibacterial, but it’s also a smoothing agent. You cleanse your skin, and then put the honey on a dry face—if you put honey on a wet face, it’ll slide. Then you just play the piano on your skin. If I break out, I also use tea tree oil. I put it in a pot of water, and I literally just steam, like you would if you had a cold. Or I carry a little thing of the essential oil in my makeup case so I can put a little bit on—just a little bit, because it will burn you.”

4. She Eats Mostly Plant Based

Los,Angeles,-,Jan,19:,Television,Host,Padma,Lakshmi,ArrivesShutterstock

Lakshmi tells Into The Gloss that she eats mostly veggies and plant-based foods. “I’m much more simple about my food choices as I’ve gotten older and become a mother,” she explained. “It’s also just what’s happening in food, right? We’re all eating more whole, less processed foods. I’ve actually gone back to eating a lot like I ate when I was a child, which is really mostly plant-based. Once in a while some bacon or veal, but mostly it’s just poultry and fish. A lot of lentils, a lot of beans—50% of my diet is fruits and vegetables.”

5. She Does A Variety Of Workouts

Lakshmi tells Into The Gloss that she does a lot of different exercises. “I do everything. If I think it’ll help, I do it. I box, I jump rope, I do calisthenics—old-school pushups, and mountain climbers, and sit ups. Things you can do on the floor without any help. But I also go to the gym—the grungier the gym, I find, the better, because they’re the ones that have the real machines. I also do a lot of Pilates. I’ve found that in the way that boxing transformed my body 15 years ago, Pilates has really done that for me now. Because I have some lower-back issues, I can’t do certain things that are higher impact. Like, I no longer am able to hit a heavy bag, but I can do a speed bag. So, the boxing is really for me to burn as many calories as I can, because of all the food I’m consuming. The Pilates started out as a way to make my back stronger, but has really transformed my body.”

Sydney has been water skiing since she was a toddler. “The moment I could walk, my mom put me on what’s called a U-board to learn how to ski,” she told Women’s Health. “I remember that whenever we would go by the docks of my grandma’s or my cousin’s house, I’d wave. I felt so cool because I could take off one hand. That’s my earliest memory of skiing, but I’ve been doing it as long as I can remember. It’s my favorite.” How does it help her achieve her amazing body? “It’s a lot of upper body strength, it’s balance, it’s core, it’s legs—you get tired really fast,” she says. “I see such a change in my body after an entire summer of [skiing]. My arms are stronger, more sculpted. My abs are rock solid. But I never look at it as a workout because it is so much fun,” she said.

Morning Workouts

Sydney mixes up her exercise routine, but likes to get workouts over with early in the day. “I like to work out in the morning, so I’ll either go for a run or I’ll go to Solidcore,” says Sydney. The high-intensity, low-impact Pilates-inspired workout “makes me feel so strong, but also elongated,” Sydney said about her sweat sessions. “I feel so good afterwards.”

Self-Care

Sydney engages in self-care activities. “I love to paint, and I love to read,” she said. “Those are the activities that are just for me.” One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years than those who weren't readers or who read periodicals.

She Walks and Hikes

One of the ways she treats her anxiety is by spending time outdoors with her dog, Tank. She takes him on walks or hikes. Going for a daily walk can be a game changer, especially at a brisk speed. One study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day reduced the risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia, and death, compared with walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.

Strength Training

Mariana relies on old-school strength training to keep her body toned. “Training till failure instead of reps + taking my ab routine up a notch by incorporating weighted exercises,” she wrote about one of her workout tactics. “I can feel my muscles being challenged and am in tune with my movements.” According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Other healthy habits? “Prioritizing digestion,” she writes in the same post. “Making sure I get enough fiber & starting off every morning with a juice cleanse. This has helped me feel so much better everyday.” She also gets regular blood work done. “So important to check your levels and know what’s going on in your body routinely! Don’t skip the doc apts, always better to be preventative.”

Hiking

Mariana enjoys hiking. “Elevation therapy,” she captioned a post from one of her fitness adventures. According to the National Parks Service, the physical benefits of hiking include:

  • Building stronger muscles and bones
  • Improving your sense of balance
  • Improving your heart health
  • Decreasing the risk of some respiratory issues

Mariana does reformer Pilates. “POV: Stepping into the prettiest torture chamber,” she wrote across a video of herself at the studio. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Emsculpt NEO

Mariana recently got an aesthetic body treatment, Emsculpt NEO. “I’ve heard all the rage about the benefits to spot reducing fat & toning muscle so I had to give it a try to target those pesky lower abs. It was a 10/10 & a great addition to my workout routine,” she wrote.
