Teri Hatcher has always kept fitness top of mind, never more so than in her 50s (she's now 57). "Exercise has become a source of well being not a means to look good naked," she wrote once. "So why actually post a pic of myself in a bikini? Well, this is my truth and being in this 55 year old body actually feels liberating. Here’s the thing. I’ve finally figured out how to be comfortable in my own skin. Maybe not every day but a lot of them. Age allows you to be clear on your purpose and cherish who and what you are grateful for. You have enough age to see the miracle of life and enough youth to revel in that knowledge. You can be vulnerable and strong at the same time. You can forgive others and yourself. You are willing to put in the effort to reach a goal...or not. And that’s okay. Mostly, you know to make the most of every moment. For me that is sharing joy & positivity, knowledge I’ve gained through experience both successes and failures, and helping to lift others up. Sharing myself in a bikini (which I may or may not ever wear again) Is me Being open to others, open to life... finding glorious connection and community. No filters, no makeup, no airbrushing, no negativity. Be strong enough to be vulnerable." How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Teri Hatcher stays in shape.

1. Exercise Is Important To Her

Celebrities Visit Broadway - May 2022Bruce Glikas/WireImage

She cares more about making exercise a way of living and a means to better health, than just a way to look good. "Exercise has become a source of well being, not a means to look good naked,” she said. According to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), “the ideal workout regimen balances cardiovascular work and strength training. Their guidelines recommend 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity each week or vigorous-intensity aerobic activity for a minimum of 20 minutes three days a week. Additionally, you should do strength training twice a week.”

2. With Age Came A Clear Mind

Age doesn’t matter, it’s all about how you feel and your mental health. “Age allows you to be clear on your purpose and cherish who and what you are grateful for,” she said. “For me that is sharing joy & positivity, knowledge I’ve gained through experience both successes and failures, and helping to lift others up.”

3. Exercise Is A Way Of Life

"Hitsville: The Making Of Motown" - European Premiere - VIP ArrivalsDave Benett/WireImage

She stays in a good place mentally. "I feel the most beautiful when I am being my most authentic self," she said. "When I'm treating myself well, eating right, exercising, being creative, and being social with a community of people that I really care about—all of those things drive towards self-acceptance."

4. She Ran A Marathon

She ran a marathon to challenge her athletic ability. “Something about the ups and downs of training for such a physical feat as a marathon — that sort of vulnerability, the adversity that you have to get through and pushing through walls together — and having that experience as a team; it’s just a bonding thing that you can’t really replace or have from any other experience. And I think we both wanted that together,” she said.

5. She Stays Hydrated

She aims to drink nearly three liters of water daily. "I did it on the advice of a nutritionist and a week after I had so many of my friends ask, 'What are you doing to your skin? It looks amazing.' I couldn't think of anything different other than the water,” she said.

In an Instagram post for Mother's Day, the actress wished moms a great day while lifting weights. She captioned the video, "Strong as a mother. 💐💗 Happy Mother’s Day! 🌺🌸" The Mayo Clinic states, "Strength training can reduce the signs and symptoms of many chronic conditions, such as arthritis, back pain, obesity, heart disease, depression and diabetes."

2. She Runs on the Treadmill

Showtime's FYC Event And Premiere For "The First Lady" - ArrivalsJon Kopaloff/Getty Images

The actress showed off a few dance moves when she posted an Instagram video of herself running and dancing while working out. She wrote, "Just got my cast off and was so happy I had a dance party with my treadmill. 🙏" According to Harvard Health, "While treadmills may seem boring, they can offer a good alternative for exercise, depending on how you use them," says Dr. Adam Tenforde, with the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard-affiliated Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. "There is so much more to treadmills than just 'push the button and start walking."

3. She's All About Gracefully Aging

Maleficent Mistress of Evil PhotocallGetty Images

People reports the A-lister doesn't let aging in Hollywood affect her. “I certainly see that I’ve changed. I just try not to dwell on it,” she told the magazine. “Aging happens to every single one of us. Once you accept that it unburdens you.” Yale News states, "Research has shown that older persons who have acquired positive beliefs about old age from their surrounding culture are less likely to develop dementia. This protective effect was found for all participants, as well as among those carrying a gene that puts them at higher risk of developing dementia, a new study led by the Yale School of Public Health has found."

4. She Has a Great Skincare Regime

"Maleficent – Mistress Of Evil" European PremiereErnesto S. Ruscio/Getty Images

Pfeiffer has a gorgeous complexion and only uses clean and organic products. She told Oprah Daily, "I’ve been using Sodashi skincare for a very long time. I saw that the ingredients were mostly natural, and they don’t make me break out. I have such reactive skin that if I find something that performs and agrees with me, I stick with it. I haven’t changed what I use on my skin in over ten years. My routine is simple: I cleanse, I moisturize—that’s it." Northwestern Medicine says, "The phrase skin care brings to mind three things: skin cancer, dry skin and a long aisle of beauty products at your local drugstore. But it’s more than a surface-level concern. While a skin care routine may sound like high maintenance, in reality, the steps for healthy skin are not only necessary, they’re easy to implement too. “Investing early in the health of your skin, with regular skin care, will not only better protect it from the harsh effects of winter, but also keep you looking and feeling your best throughout the year,” says Steven Nwe, DO, a dermatologist with Northwestern Medicine. “The key to skin resiliency is knowing your skin and treating it well.”

5. She Loves Being Outdoors and in Nature

G'Day USA 2020 | Standing Together DinnerRodin Eckenroth/Getty Images

Scroll through Pfeiffer's Instagram feed and you'll see plenty of photos of her at the beach, the desert and enjoying the outdoors. The University of Minnesota states, "Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones. It may even reduce mortality, according to scientists such as public health researchers Stamatakis and Mitchell. Research done in hospitals, offices, and schools has found that even a simple plant in a room can have a significant impact on stress and anxiety."

1. Jennifer Lopez

"I'm in the best shape of my life," Jennifer Lopez, 52, recently admitted in a May 2021 cover story for InStyle's The Beauty Issue. While she’s always been a fitness inspiration, her workouts have become more efficient as she has aged. "In my 20s and 30s I used to work out but not like I do now," she revealed. "It's not that I work out more; I just work out harder and smarter. And it doesn't take me as long as it did in the past. I do it more for my health than I do for looks, which is funny. When you do things for the right reasons, you actually look better!"

2. Heather Graham

Heather Graham, 51, revealed a few of her stay-fit secrets to Refinery29. Not only does she avoid complex carbohydrates—white flour and sugar—but she does a lot of yoga (sometimes multiple workouts a day) and pilates.

3. Demi Moore

Demi Moore, a longtime yogi, recently upped her workout game with the help of at-home workout classes via The Mirror. The 58-year-old also enjoys going on hikes with her family, eats healthy, and doesn’t drink alcohol or do drugs.

4. Catherine Zeta-Jones

Unlike pretty much every other Hollywood star, Catherine Zeta-Jones, 51, doesn’t have a personal trainer. Instead, the Welsh actress trains herself. “I don’t have a trainer. Crazy, right? But I don’t need anyone to motivate me,” she told InStyle. “I love exercise, even things like the elliptical machine and stretching. It’s a legacy of dancing all those years.” According to Catherine she works “at least 45 minutes a day, seven days a week” with some of her favorite workouts being swimming, tennis, peloton, and tap dancing.

5. Paulina Porzikova

Supermodel Paulina Porzikova, 56, didn’t start exercising until she was 40, but now breaks a sweat almost daily. “I try to exercise at least 3-5 days a week. And you know what? I frickin hate it,” she recently revealed in one of her workout videos. “I don’t like to sweat and huff and puff and hurt. If sitting on a couch, eating cake, drinking wine and reading did the same for me as exercise, there would be no contest. BUT. I have come to find out that ‘working out’ is that perfect little pill everyone is looking for. It makes you feel good, look good, good for your brain and body - a small miracle that has to be paid of by a little discomfort.” Her favorite workouts include dancing, rowing, and pilates.

6. Kelly Ripa

Kelly Ripa, 50, refuses to skip a workout "I work out seven days a week," she told In the Know. "And I try to workout an hour and a half a day, no matter what — whether I'm working or not. If I'm working, maybe I'll start it a little bit later or a little bit earlier, depending on what day of the week it is. But I am very religious about my fitness."

7. Salma Hayek

While Salma Hayek, 54, has revealed a number of times that she hates to work out, she does stay moving and has also discovered a creative way to engage her muscles. "Some people have the discipline to exercise in the morning, and I didn't develop that," she told People. "I work with a woman in London who taught me how to hold my body in a way where the muscles are activated all day long. So even when you brush your teeth, you're working the muscles," she continued. "It's restorative yoga. She taught me how to tone [my muscles] without clenching them. You relax them and focus on the parts that need to be used, but never with tension. If you're aware of your body, you'd be surprised by the effect it can have."

8. Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston has always maintained one of the fittest bodies in Hollywood, mostly due to her devotion to healthy diet and exercise. She once revealed to InStyle that she works out “almost every day, at least five or six days a week." And “variety is key” when it comes to the 52-year-old’s workout. "Mixing it up is always fun because that way you know you're excited, and it's muscle confusion. It keeps your body awake," she told Women’s Health. Her favorite workouts include cycling, yoga, barre method, Body by Simone and more recently, boxing. "It's the longest workout I've actually stayed with consistently other than yoga," she told InStyle. "There's something about the mental aspect of boxing — the drills, your brain has to work, you're not just sitting on a bike. It's amazing."

9. Elizabeth Hurley

Elizabeth Hurley, 56, doesn’t work out. “I don’t exercise, but I am very active,” she admitted to Harper’s Bazaar. She clarified to Us Weekly in October 2018 that she stays in shape by “being active” which includes “going for walks, stretching, maybe a little yoga or a little Pilates. But I don’t like high impact, high energy sports. I don’t actually think they do you much good. As long as you get your heart rate to the rate you need it to get, which is a fast walk. But you need to do a bit of it.” She does count steps, however, “I walk every day, so I try and hit my 10,000 steps a day and I do some stretching every day. And then sometimes I do a bit more, but that’s enough for me really.”

10. Cindy Crawford

cindy-crawford-instagramCindy Crawford/Instagram

Cindy Crawford, 55, might not be making workout videos these days, but she is still engaging in regular strength and weight training workouts, posting her clips on social media. She also boxes with her husband, golfs, and surfs. She recently told Red magazine that her workouts have evolved from her supermodel days. Instead of working out until she drops, she takes it easier. “Now my goal is not to get hurt. So, I have added a lot more stretching and Pilates, and I don’t feel as compelled to do those tough workouts any more,” she said.

11. Halle Berry

For Halle Berry, 54, fitness is simply a part of her lifestyle. You just have to have the will and the desire. And you have to make up your mind that it's important. That's the hard work that people “always been fit, and have always thought about fitness and taking care of my body,” her approach has evolved. “It's only changed in terms of how I've been adding to my fitness regimen. It used to just be working out with weights, and then I got into Pilates, and then I got into yoga, and now I'm into martial arts."

12. Sharon Stone

Sharon Stone, 63, stays incredibly active and switches up her workouts. "Every time I exercise, I do something different based on which areas need to get in motion," she told Shape. She also avoids alcohol and caffeine and eats incredibly healthy, avoiding gluten.

For Hewitt, fitness is all about variety. “I try to switch it up a bit,” she told OK! Magazine. “I’ve found that if every week I do something different it tricks my muscles into not getting used to doing any one thing. I’ve been doing pilates, I’ve been doing yoga, I’ve done just plain old walking. I wear 10 pound weights on my ankles while I’m working just so that as I’m moving during the day I’m constantly building muscle. It’s not great for your back but I’m doing it anyway. I do a booty workout thing that I just did for Shape, which was really fun. And I do Zumba. I have DVDs and I dance around like a crazy person in my house.”

Water Skiing

Sydney has been water skiing since she was a toddler. “The moment I could walk, my mom put me on what’s called a U-board to learn how to ski,” she told Women’s Health. “I remember that whenever we would go by the docks of my grandma’s or my cousin’s house, I’d wave. I felt so cool because I could take off one hand. That’s my earliest memory of skiing, but I’ve been doing it as long as I can remember. It’s my favorite.” How does it help her achieve her amazing body? “It’s a lot of upper body strength, it’s balance, it’s core, it’s legs—you get tired really fast,” she says. “I see such a change in my body after an entire summer of [skiing]. My arms are stronger, more sculpted. My abs are rock solid. But I never look at it as a workout because it is so much fun,” she said.

Morning Workouts

Sydney mixes up her exercise routine, but likes to get workouts over with early in the day. “I like to work out in the morning, so I’ll either go for a run or I’ll go to Solidcore,” says Sydney. The high-intensity, low-impact Pilates-inspired workout “makes me feel so strong, but also elongated,” Sydney said about her sweat sessions. “I feel so good afterwards.”

Self-Care

Sydney engages in self-care activities. “I love to paint, and I love to read,” she said. “Those are the activities that are just for me.” One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years than those who weren't readers or who read periodicals.

She Walks and Hikes

One of the ways she treats her anxiety is by spending time outdoors with her dog, Tank. She takes him on walks or hikes. Going for a daily walk can be a game changer, especially at a brisk speed. One study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day reduced the risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia, and death, compared with walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.

Mariana Morais is showing off her ab-fab figure – in a two-piece exercise set. In a new social media post, the fitness influencer flaunts her fantastic figure in a brown sports bra and leggings. “Self Progress & Development is not always linear. Sometimes we take steps back & that’s just a sign to course correct so we can leap forward. If 2024 wasn’t the year you expected, use it as an opportunity to learn, grow, & carry on. It’s you VS you - continue to try, focus on consistency > perfection & you will prevail 🤎 rooting for us all to strengthen our mind & bodies this year,” she captioned the series of Instagram snaps. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

Strength Training

Mariana relies on old-school strength training to keep her body toned. “Training till failure instead of reps + taking my ab routine up a notch by incorporating weighted exercises,” she wrote about one of her workout tactics. “I can feel my muscles being challenged and am in tune with my movements.” According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Prioritizing Digestion and Getting Blood Work Done

Other healthy habits? “Prioritizing digestion,” she writes in the same post. “Making sure I get enough fiber & starting off every morning with a juice cleanse. This has helped me feel so much better everyday.” She also gets regular blood work done. “So important to check your levels and know what’s going on in your body routinely! Don’t skip the doc apts, always better to be preventative.”

Hiking

Mariana enjoys hiking. “Elevation therapy,” she captioned a post from one of her fitness adventures. According to the National Parks Service, the physical benefits of hiking include:

  • Building stronger muscles and bones
  • Improving your sense of balance
  • Improving your heart health
  • Decreasing the risk of some respiratory issues

Pilates

Mariana does reformer Pilates. “POV: Stepping into the prettiest torture chamber,” she wrote across a video of herself at the studio. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Emsculpt NEO

Mariana recently got an aesthetic body treatment, Emsculpt NEO. “I’ve heard all the rage about the benefits to spot reducing fat & toning muscle so I had to give it a try to target those pesky lower abs. It was a 10/10 & a great addition to my workout routine,” she wrote.
